Is my calling range to small? Maybe I'm 3-betting too much where I should be calling?
The question is way too vague as you're calling range should depend on a load of factors - what position we're in, who's left to act behind, villain's pre flop tendancies/postflop tendancies etc etc. Like we should be calling a lot wider BU vs UTG than we should MP vs UTG. With active squeezers behind, we should be looking to 3b or fold a lot of the hands we would otherwise call with. You have to visualise what you think villains range is and then construct your range accordingly. It helps to do this off table so you have a clearer picture in game.

Well, my BTN flatting range is PPs, AQ, sometimes I fold AQ pre vs nits opening from UTG
is it too nitty?
I flat wider when there's a fish in the pot of course, but only in those spots.

It's kinda irritating when someone states the question is way too vague, and you proceed to ask the exact same question XD

Spoiler:
no offense lmao

How were you playing 50nl only a few weeks ago and you don't know what your calling range should be vs UTG opens?! This is really basic stuff, no offence.

havent you been palying for like 5 years?

Just wrote an entire post explaining myself to you avizura and then realised your post wasn't even aimed at me. Was thinking to myself "what does he mean, I didn't even ask any questions" LOL.

Seems a little nitty, at least don't fold AQs. If the guy's like 9/6 then I think maybe we can muck it.

well, I learned that by playing FR that I would almost always lose by flatting a marginal hand OOP.

But in that time people were raising to 3x, now people minraise and we get a good price, right?
03-13-2017 , 04:40 PM
yeah, it makes a lot of sense right now, that's why my re-steal was around 20%, I was 3-betting a lot rather than calling, lol.

Btw, can you post your BB winrate?

my BB winrate in NL25 is like this

03-13-2017 , 07:02 PM
BTW, I'm burnt out, been playing every day for almost all the time of the day since I came back from the beach.

it seems all I'm doing is losing money and getting myself tired, but I'm feeling I'm starting to understand how the game should be played.

Well, still have some time here in the poker world, I'm reluctant to take this day off, since I'm on a crusade, but I'm so tired that almost got trampled by a bus today when I went to buy groceries lol

But it feels good to be engaged so hard into something. I'm not a person who works hard and focus, I've been always average/slightly above average in my classes, in the university I'm probably in the worst 10% of the class (that didn't dropout ofc).

I'm all-in on this ****, still have to study for one last subject that I didn't pass, will probably move back home in May, so I will probably stop playing poker there, maybe playing pretty rarely. Volume will probably be even smaller than 20k hands/month

So I'll have only more 1 month and a half to do this challenge.

My goal is still to play at the highest stakes possible. I'll keep working hard to beat this game. The problem now is that with such small bankroll, I'll need luck in order to do that, even though I'll probably have around 200k hands this month, if I put another 200k next month, it won't be possible to move up with proper BRM.

well, in 300k hands, if I manage a 5bb/100 winrate, it's 150 BI, if I use a 20 BI BRM and keep doing that, starting from NL16, it's possible, but I'm not sure if I'm even winning, imagine having a 5bb/100.

I think I made a lot of weird moves and used a lot of guerrilla tactics that destroyed my opponents, like open jamming in any 4-bet pot with all my 4-bet range, people were overcalling my 4-bets and got punished hard for it. Maybe it's still possible to use the info these guys have on me against them, exploit them in some manner.

Also when I look at all my graphs from all the stakes I played, I saw a HUGE upswing at the beginning of the graph, it came with a HUGE red line, my super exploitative game when I moved up into higher stakes was really doing well, since people play conservative vs unknowns. Then people adapted and I got crushed.

In NL50 I had a 10 BI upswing in 3k hands, in NL25 it lasted for 12k hands until my redline started dropping, in NL10, since the pool is huge, I maintained that for 10k hands and will probably last for more 10k, will wait to analyze that when the hands I asked from stars arrive.

Goal here is to play well, but I'll think about these dirty tricks when moving up, the hard part is that I'll have to play good poker until NL100, so my main focus here is to do that. I'll use most of my off-table time to learn how to play well, but if I get closer to new stakes, I'll put some effort in developing those huge exploitative strategies to get an edge when I'm new at a stake. It's obviously bad in the long run if I keep doing that, but if I can get a free 30bb/100 over the first 3k hands when I move into a new stake, it's fine to get those 9 BI for free, then play proper poker from there.

The tough thing is that in smaller pools it's way less effective, but I can split out during the day time. Since I don't have a normal day schedule, I can play at any time I want during the day, so if I do those dirty tricks spread through the day, I can get as much contact surface as possible.

Another tough thing is that by playing like a raging monkey, It's easier to tilt, but I'll have a lot of time to get control over it.

my BB winrate in NL25 is like this

with the hands I got, it's -31bb ev/100 from the bb/sb

-22 for the SB
and - 39 from the BB

Now from the CO is where I found out a lot of leaks I had, I raised too much crap and got owned a lot by getting 3-betted by the BTN or by playing with junk post-flop, 14 BI of my 78 BI downswing in NL25 came from that, also you can see that the periods I lost the most were when I started in NL25(playing the old super aggro-strat) and when I went downhill with tilt, at the beginning and end of the graph.

While in the middle of the graph, it was when I was playing tighter so I wasn't opening crap like K2s, J7o, 28s

BTW, my CO winrate is smaller than my UTG and MP winrates

In MP, lost another 3 BI opening crap hands

In UTG, lost 8 BI by opening crap

Well, most of it came from that time I was opening 100% of hands, in that massive tilt lol

The funny thing is that I'm making money from stealing with a lot of crap from SB, break-even with absolute trash like 27o and 28o, but it's not worth the time to wait just to break-even.

From BTN it's fine by raising every hand, but still not worth to wait to raise crap like 72o, 23o

Overall, from my 78 BI downswing, 25 were because of those bad opening ranges. 12 BI were lost to tilt(from what I can find, just looked at the hands I got stacked).

Here are some tilted hands I played

Shouldn't call a 3-bet that big OOP with that hand, OTF it's better to call and then check-fold later, maybe check-shove OTT with more money from villain's bluffs in the pot.

$300, played only 1k hands today,
but this month I've played 60k hands so far, 2-tabling, so I've put so many hours in there playing, my back is hurting a little, so will stay off the tables until friday until I recover (and more fish come to the tables).

Played 130h so far average is more than 8h/day, mostly played tired/hopeless. But studied probably around 4-6h/day.

I feel my game improved a lot in this month, $350 below EV though. I feel better by running below EV, I usually was super guilty that I was like 1k above EV for the month when I was playing like a ******.

Thanks, man.

During my time, everyone used to say that every time "flat just to setmine, sometimes even fold AK pre vs the UTG open(in FR, vs a 9/5 UTG+2 open, usually it was right to fold even AK pre OOP)"

But back then PF sizes were way bigger(3x-4x), and since most people when they start playing poker don't know how to play post-flop, usually they will just burn money by flatting pre.

Even after almost 300k hands of 6-max this year I still don't know how to play post-flop well, put villain on accurate ranges and know the best move to do with my hand.

Universidade federal de são carlos, I study industrial engineering, here in Brazil we don't have minors and stuff, but if I had to relate to other countries, I would say that I have minors in chemical engineering and materials engineering. Even though I don't like those subjects, prefer to study programming/computer science, sad that I can't choose the subjects I take, my course is the only one in the university that it's like that =(

But had a good amount of programming during university, not that I can build a site/software from scratch, most of what I learned was how to program some specific stuff, calculate how to optimize processes, analyze data, make really complex calculations.

thx man

open-ended SF draw is the strongest hand OTF, I'm feeling safer by getting then with bottom set, no matter how deep stacked it may be lol, 40% equity vs top set xD

gonna do my best to crush the games, winrate at NL16 is bad, but I improved a lot, specially my post-flop play. Sad that I won't be able to reach NL50 this month, but by the end of next month it will be possible.

Forcing myself to make more hero calls, I was overly nit when it came to simple small spots like those below, ofc, making a lot of bad calls along the way, but it's better than just keep folding like crazy and getting exploited even by fish who decide to go nuts
FD missed(I usually never called any hand when the board had 1-to-straight)

$250 bankroll

Tough, I'm a breakeven reg at NL16, it sucks a lot. Even with that much effort I'm putting into this.

After a lot of research in my database, found out that I'm bleeding a lot in 3-bet pots when I flat the 3-bets, even IP.

I don't know what to do anymore, but will keep studying and playing. I won't give up this challenge. Will keep doing my best to improve in this game.

Sadly I'll have to take some time to study for a subject I didn't pass in the last semester, but it won't affect my volume so much, playing probably 2k hands/day and studying more.

One thing I realized is that when I play long sessions, my red line starts to drop. Maybe when I'm playing my A game I'm playing more aggressive and taking opportunity in most spots I can. Then after I get tired I play more weak-tight, overfolding a lot.

And during my huge downswing, after analyzing it, I saw that I lost 32 BI over 3 sessions back in NL25 when I had a decent bankroll lol.
