Hey guys,

30 years old. Live in the US. No college degree. Tired of the mundane work life. Poker may be a grind, as well, but it's 100x better than the bull**** Rat Race so many of us are running in. I also only make about $30,000 a year (my gf makes about the same, so we have what I would consider an excellent income compared to 99% of the world), so it's not exactly a hard salary to replace.

I have a $10,000 roll and will be starting with MTT's while I brush up on my cash play. I played for a supplemental income before Black Friday, but have only played MTT's occasionally the past few years, so I'm a bit rusty (this includes slightly keeping up with evolving trends/theory). I'm going to use this thread as my journal. It will track my results, and hopefully lead to some friendships in the poker community. None of my real life friends know anything about the game. I feel it's important to surround yourself with like-minded individuals, though.

My results have always been solid, but I am far from being a "great" player. I do, however, currently possess the desire to change that.

To me, the flexibility of poker as a career means more happiness in life. While it takes a ton of work to excel in this game, and to remain a profitable player, it's worth it to have an elastic schedule enabling more family/friend time.

I consider this the first step on the new path in my life, and I'm happier than I have been in a while. I don't care much for material things. I like to play guitar, read, go hiking, work out, meditate, cook, and all that boring stuff. I don't need to make a lot of money. I just want to be able to travel the world before I die, and I'll be a happy camper! I have a lot of investments that are basically my retirement, so I'm hoping poker can fill the gap from here to there.

I hope to look back on this post, even by 12/31/18, and be proud of the progress made by that point in time. Good luck to everyone on the felt, and especially in all our personal endeavors!

J

Firing up my Sunday session. Probably playing 20-25 MTT's today. I'm ready. Got the mindset right. I love it. Before I grind or workout or in the mornings I start out with a motivational video on Youtube. They get my blood pumping for sure.

It's funny when I hear, "Poker is dead in the US". The amount of terrible play in $50-$200 buy-in MTT's is enough to get you salivating!

Thanks Blue! I share the same sentiment. We can achieve anything we want with hard-work and insane motivation!

I play on Ignition, Betonline and Global.

I started the session off not running the best, but a lot of poker left!

This makes me hungry to improve my game even more.

Thanks for the concern, Rich. I have a very solid amount of $ saved up for months worth of living expenses, and was only making 30k/year ($16.50/hr as a seasonal worker). That's not a hard salary to find again should my plan not workout. I would rather try and fail, though, than not try at all.

30k from poker is not a giant goal to accomplish. I'm temporarily playing MTT's while I brush up on cash play, but the play seems so soft I'll probably just resume cash play. Even if I am only making 1bb/100 at 200nl to begin, I'm making what I was in the Rat Race, with nowhere to go but up.

Didn't get to play yesterday, but it was nice to rest after Sunday's brutal session. Those days have to happen, though, so I don't lose sleep over them. I'm not the biggest fan of mtts, so I'm going back to cash starting today. I think the games are soft enough for me to have a positive winrate while I improve my play. Going to dabble in 100nl for a bit before jumping into 200nl.

Two of the sites I'm on have fast-fold, but they're semi-new, so not a ton of people play them yet.

I will start out with 6 tables at once and then add more as I get back into the groove of things.
