Preparation for a (hopefully) exciting 2019 Preparation for a (hopefully) exciting 2019

Howdy fellow poker players.

tldr; lurker who's been playing poker for the past 4 years decides to make a thread

I really enjoy PG&C threads. I think reading about other people's goals and experiences not only allows for great entertainment value, but also gives people a chance for self reflection and some (always valuable) motivation.

I was introduced to online poker in the fall of 2014. I enjoy competitive gaming (both playing and watching) and stumbled across Jason Sommerville's stream and remember watching for hours finding it incredibly entertaining. Eventually, I made the dive myself and desposited like 50$ onto Carbon and proceeded to go through the same intial process that I assume many people go through: the rinse and repeat small desposits. AKA I was a losing player for a good chunk of time.

I've never really had an ego when it comes to games...I enjoy the process of learning from people better than myself and so poker was a pretty natural progression esports. Eventually, I got sick of losing money and accepted that I was simply not good at this game (maybe I still suck.) I started spending less time watching poker content for entertainment value and more time actually trying to understand why people were doing the things they were doing. Things started to click.

Played my first live poker session in the summer of 2016 when I was in Vegas for the first time for a friend's bachelor party. I was hooked. I knew that I would never fully stop playing online poker...especially since I work a full time job. However, live poker was so much more enjoyable for me and I wanted to try more of it.

Summer/Fall 2016:

There is a smallish casino about 30 minutes from where I live so after I got back from Vegas I decided to check it out for the first time. The game of choice: 1/2 with a 50bb cap. Yuck. I've played enough poker at this point to understand the implications of this structure; however, we really have no other choice.

I played this game for months and quickly learned just how soft live poker can be. Eventually I began to play in a 2/3 game which only ran on the weekends. Sitting down with 300$ at the time made the game feel so much bigger than it actually was. It took a while for me to become comfortable in this game, but once I did it was difficult to look back and realize I was playing the 1/2 100$ capped game.

I played this 2/3 game nearly every weekend for about 6 months.

Fast forward a bit to 2018:

I've begun playing in a 5/10 game at my local casino which runs every Friday. It's a fun game and what began as shot taking (still debatably is, but having job liferoll sperate from bankroll yada yada all that stuff w/e) has become a regular Friday occurance.

Throughout all of this there is plenty of online poker as well as poker played in other locations...the jist being poker has been a massive part of my life for the past 4 years or so and here we are:

The point of this thread:

There are two main purposes...

1) This is going to be a simple place for me to recount poker things. I'm going to post hand histories and any other things that happen to occur.

2) My job contract ends at the beginning of next year. My plan for the first half of 2019 is to travel U.S (maybe a bit of global travel) and play poker. This will include both tournaments and cash. I think this forum will be a great place to document this experience and I'd like to have something established before that time comes.

Thanks for taking the time to read this...and welcome aboard!
