I assume people watch for the heavy hand analysis. Lifestyle vlog, trooper is the guy. I know I enjoy watching him for that stuff. Far more than Neeme tbh.

maybe throw in some lifestyle stuff if you want to multiply your viewers by 14x (or 30x?) ???

Re: Poker Vlogging: Its a thing

Vlogger game wrap up ... the last vlogs have been released!

Rayz Rayl drops off a Part 1 and Part 2 (on his channel) for his view of the Vlogger game.

.... and finally, Bikeking19 lays out the other side of the vloggers game and his take on the "biggest pot of his life" had with Boski and David.
TRIGGER WARNING: Full Bartgasm in video.

James, the Thai vlogger who usually plays MGM National Harbor / Maryland Live continues his English language vlog series and takes the audience with him to Thailand.
His English is definitely improving, its much easier to understand him now that even a month ago.

Andrew Neeme has taken another trip out of Vegas and is lurking around California looking for new places to crash his drone ... oh wait I mean ...

Matt Vaughn gives us a discussion / chatty vlog where he takes on a few interesting industry topics.

To Fozzy's point, the background is certainly not appealing. I mean even when you were in Vegas and your background was the balcony it was a bit more interesting. Maybe work some of the hand histories at an interesting location. Or maybe just go mid-tech, put up a green sheet and chroma-key in an interesting background in post. Maybe even take a cue from a vlogger we haven't heard much from recently, Tommy Carlo, who used all kinds of interesting back drops and he voiced over his comments. Not sure we ever saw his face. Anyway ... the base content is good, some of the presentation could use a tweak.

This guy is kinda growing on me. Low stakes guy in CA (San Jose I think). This is one of his better too with the Yosemite backdrop.

Another nice poker and lifestyle mix. I do think you're losing some momentum by departing from your weekly release schedule though, but certainly real life can get in the way.

I'm continuing to see better play and thinking in your HHs. Progress in $1/$2 competency is not always readily apparent, whether in terms of results or even your own observations. Over time though, you'll gain a better sense of the flow of play and the players themselves. Plus you'll improve on sizing, which I still think is a weaker area for you.

Does your coach think it makes sense to mix and match online and live while you're actively learning? I ask since the atmospheres are very different and it might lead to some wire crossing.

Thanks, Riz! Glad the progress is noticeable. I definitely feel like I'm getting better. And you're absolutely right, bet sizing (along with a bunch of other stuff) is still a big leak that I continue to work on. Old habits die hard and what not.

My coach and I have touched on the differences between online and live and whenever I'm playing live while he's observing, we sometimes comment on how a particular line might be different in live play. Both live and online play are important to me though. With the drive to the nearest casino being so long, it would be nice to make a portion of my poker profit from online. So I'm definitely concentrating on that too.

I always have every intention of putting out vlogs more frequently and know that my subscriber rate is probably suffering greatly from the inconsistency. But like you said, life just keeps getting in the way. I'm hoping that as I get better at editing I can find ways to streamline the process and cut down on the time between episodes. But between the vlog, the website, playing poker, studying, and my day job, not to mention trying to find time to spend with my wife, it can all add up and become somewhat overwhelming. Yet it seems to get a little better every day. So there's still hope for me

Always great to hear your thoughts! Thanks so much!

pokermonk, love your videos. Been viewing them before I signed up here and enjoy them immensely.

I've thought about starting a poker vlog as a novice but not sure. I've noticed a lot of the vlogs linked in this thread have all died in the last couple months. Any one have any idea why? Lack of traction? Trolling? I noticed the trolling in the LVL vlog thread is really terrible. Could see that crushing the "fun" factor for some. Much prefer this thread~

There is only one creator that gets heavily criticized in the LVL thread and that's because he's a terrible player and more importantly a terrible human being. I would say that thread has actually gone pretty light on others who have been producing horrible content. Bike King was criticized for the vlogger game but when he came out as homeless the reception was not very negative at all.

"Heavily". Okay.

Actually I've read people in that thread debate whether or not someone's wife would leave them if he didn't "continue to run good" in the last couple pages, body language experts about him "leaning into his wife" and what it means, asking vloggers if they're on disability for no reason, crying about DNegs, saying "DNegs wishes he was black", so that's BS and people who do stuff like that in that thread are garbage humans and no better than Trooper. It's gossipy, disturbing and pathetic.

Re: Poker Vlogging: Its a thing

I'd be surprised if the comments regarding Dnegs wearing blackface haven't been discussed outside of that thread as well. You make fair points though. There is definitely some toxicity there although it may have been Trooper himself that brought that toxicity to LVL in the previous thread.

Good point on DNegs and blackface. I guess I don't mind the criticism of him as much as the others because he is a legitimate celebrity and that comes more with the territory than just being a vlogger with a couple hundred or thousand subscribers and trying to share and have some fun with it. Appreciate the reasonable response.

Anyway, I just think anything that discourages people from doing the poker vlog thing is a net negative for the game. Just my opinion. I'm getting back into the game because of these vlogs and it's been like 10 years since I've played so I am easy $ right now. I think we all want that (bringing more people in), same as TV creating the boom in '03, etc etc..

I am in North Texas by the way. Maybe I'll see you sometime at WinStar.

Thanks so much!

I think there's probably a lot of reasons. For one, the vlogs can be super difficult to produce, especially if you're going for any kind of quality. And if you're not familiar with the editing software there's a ton to learn there. The time commitment is way more than you might expect, especially if you're going to include some type of hand analysis. Between writing the hand analysis and laying the graphics out, the hand analysis takes a ton of my time. The trolls don't really bother me, they're easy to ignore. The really frustrating thing is how difficult it is to increase subscriber counts. Not to mention there's pretty much no money in it until you get to Neeme's level. And even then you'd have to have several different revenue sources to make it financially worthwhile.

So I think if you want to do it you should, but only because you enjoy it. There have been a few benefits to it for me personally. I love the creative outlet and the editing process. I love learning new things so the editing has been a source of great fun, as well as lots of frustration, but mostly fun. I've also found the vlog has motivated me to put in more work on and off the felt. I put in more hours at the table because I need material for the vlog, I keep better track of my hands because I need them for hand analysis, and I study more off the table because I know that getting better and having better results makes the vlog more interesting. I've also been doing things like trading promotion on the vlog for coaching which has been incredibly valuable.

Let me know if you decide to start a vlog. Would be happy to give you any advice and answer any questions that I can. GL!
