Day 3

After my last post I went to the local card room at 9 p.m. i usually don’t go once it gets this late but I wanted to complete my play everyday challenge.

KK vs nit in straddled pot
Utg posts a $10 straddle, raise in ep and nit 3bs to $65 with a $440 stack. I look down at KK in the sb. I’m not in love with this spot at all. I fear the nit has AA as he seemed very confident talking during the hand. However, the straddle is $10 making the effective stacks 44BBs deep. I 4B to $165 and call his $440 Jam. He has AA. I know most people would just chalk this up to a cooler but I’m thinking of a line to get away. The thing about this nit is he is clueless regarding how many big blinds we are playing for and probably view his stack in terms of $ so his gii 5b range here is always KK+. Maybe I can min 4B to 110 and fold to his shove. There was a lot of verbal tells he has in this hand too. “Before he shipped he said if I call u will go all in on flop anyways so I only have one move”

Hrs played: 5h
Profit: +400

Yesterday I had a moment where I felt bad for one of my opponents as he looked like a depressed degen. I think of how ****ed up it is that I’m capitalizing on these guys to make a living.

Anyways the month is going very well, already up 2k+ in the first few days which is great because there’s a big $600 buyin event coming up soon with great structure (40m lvl, deep stacked) that I really want to play but was unsure if I wanted to spend $600 on a tournament if the month went south early or I’m breaking even. 4 more days till the tourney

I played a $88 dollar 18k gtd on acr and got 16th/210 entries and cashed for $225. Next day I play a $120 live cash tourney and busted near bubble. So that pretty much evens out. For cash game I started out playing bad, tilted and was quickly down -650. Luckily I regrouped, came back and booked a small winning session of +310.

I gotta becareful and not tilt again. Last year this month I had my biggest month at +$11800 profit, I’m shooting for something similar to end this year aswell. +5200 so far. Just gotta run good and play good in the big games.

4 day update

The past few days I’ve played a ton of poker both online and live. No exercise goals achieved sadly.

Online I played tournaments ranging from $5-$88, losing -$300 in total mainly due to 3 bullet in the $88 with no cash. Some highlights of my 10 tournaments were a win in a $11 17 entry sng and a deep run in the $30 20k gtd finishing in 42/723 entries. My bust out hand I was a 80% fav with majority of money going in on turn for a 40bb pot.

I also played a $240 100k gtd live 2 day tournament, making day 2 but only mincashing for my money back. Ran good early on day 1 but slowed down near the end and worst on day 2. Busted out hand I open shoved AJs utg for 17bb and got called by 1010.

I did very well in the live cash games booking 3 $400-$600 winning sessions.

Playing 4bet pots with AA!

H1. Villian is a loose aggressive russian fish. Stacks are $575 eff, game is $1-3$ nl.

Hero raises utg to $15 with AA. 4 calls and villian in BB makes it $30
Hero 4! $100 folds to villian who snap calls.

Flop AK4 rainbow. Villian checks. I check back since we have the board locked and spr is less than 2.

Turn 2 brings bd flush draw. Villian leads 100, hero tank calls

River 10 villian looks uncomfortable, hands a little shaky pushes all in. Hero snap call and villian snap mucks.

H2. Villian is a pro who plays both online ans live. Stacks are $1100 eff, game is $2-$5 with a mandatory $10 straddle.

CO opens $25. Hero 3! Button to $75 with BLACK ACES. Pro villian in sb makes it
$185. Hero calls.

Flop KcQc5c. Check Check

Turn 10. Villian bets $265 hero calls.

River 10c. Villian ships all in. Hero tank folds.

Me and the pro have talked strat before and we’re pretty friendly. After the hand we had some table talk and I told the table what I folded. He said he wouldn’t fold my hand but that I made a good fold and played the hand perfect. He has QQ and had plans of folding to a 5B pre.

Month so far

129hrs played
+$6730

20 minutes of exercise

I finally got some exercise in after 10 days. I exercised for an hour total this month which is ridiculously low but still better than 0hrs like i have been doing for the majority of the past 10 years. I’m going to start couting total hrs exercised and update it along with profit and hrs played. Will start adding meditation after i get exercise habit in order first. I’m going to learn some meditation classes from monks in vietnam soon so that will help.

I am feeling fresh and ready to play some 2-5 today.

folding sets

Main villian on button plays pretty solid. Definately a winning player. We have talked to each other quite a bit before.

Hero raises CO to 14 with 44. Button calls, sb calls.

Flop Ac4c7h hero bets 30, button calls.
Turn 8x hero bets 65 button calls.
River Q hero bets 175. Villian shoves all in for 520. Hero tank folds.

Later I tell him I folded bottom set. He says good fold.

Booked 2 more winning sessions the past 2 days.

Total hrs played so far: 149h
Profit: +$7338
Hrs exercised: 1h

With 10 more days left maybe I can book another 5 figure month!

Total live profit: +$46,300

My first full calender year as a pro. Not too bad considering it’s all cash and I worked 3 months outside of the US. Very fortunate to be able to call myself a pro poker player.

2019 and good karma

Today I ordered pot stickers at the poker table but the waitress bought me egg rolls instead. I hate egg rolls! As I was walking to politely tell her she mistakened my order, I over heard her say she is not feeling well to another waitress. Not wanting to make her feel worst, I opted to eat the egg rolls and didn’t tell her about the mistake. I even tipped her $3 instead of the usual $1. It made me feel good and probably bought me some good karma as I ran quite well in 2 all in spots with 50% equity.

Both hands at $1-$3 nl

H1: co raise 11, button calls, sb calls. Im in bb with black QQ and make it 65. Only CO calls.

Flop 6s7x3s. I bet 85 and call CO’s 280 all in shove. Our opponent has Ks9s and we win the flip.

H2. 2 limps from utg, utg+1, i make it 20 utg+2 with AKo. Button, sb, first limper calls and 2nd limper shoves all in for 200. I snap call and win the flip vs 66.

Hrs played: 7
Profit: +$725

I’m taking this thread to south east asia soon so hopefully I’ll have some interesting stories to post + pictures if I figure out how to. Happy new year everyone. 2019 goals will be set soon

ONLINE GRIND AND MY FIRST TOURNAMENT WIN OF 2019!

for 2019 I decide I need to beat online poker from the bottom and stick to low stakes. my goal regarding online this year is to make 5k+ profit from low stakes/micro mtt ($10 avb) and nl 25 cash. Today I deposited $300 bucks online and played 6 mtt and 4 sng buyins from $1-$15. played like 300 hands of nl25 full ring and won like $6 while playing mtt but played mostly mtt today.

The poker gods smiled down on me with a great start. I had 3 deep runs finishing in 11th/185 in a $7.70 1.5k gtd. 18/301 in a $11 3k gtd and 1/333 in a $8.80 2.5k gtd for $515! I book $500 + sessions in live poker a lot but winning $500 online feels really good!

total hrs played: 12h
profit: +$500

From what I've noticed your biggest live leak is not continuation betting your strong hands post flop where you are ahead most of the time

Yea the first few hand history i posted are ones where I played bad. The KK hand I definately should have bet flop. Is there another hand other than the first KK hand where I should have bet instead of check flop? Thanks for the feedback! Really appreciate it.

Traveling to Asia, playing the Asian Poker Tour!

Since my last update I’ve made another $100 online playing $5-$11 on demand tourneys on ACR. Then I took a flight to Vietnam to travel and play the APT kick off.

I played event #1 the monsterstack, which is a $475 buyin tourney. I sold 40% of my action and min cashed for a small profit of less than $100. This event is a 1 in 6 paid format so the min cash really sucks. Better than losing tho i’ll take it. One interesting hand of note in this tourney:

Blinds 100/200 with a 200 bb ante. Effective stack (hero) 28.5k, villian covers slightly.

Folds to CO who opens to 600, button (main villian) is a tight player calls. Hero looks down at 22 and calls in sb. bb completes. 4 ways to a dream

FLOP: 2h10s10c (2600) CO cbets 1100 and button quickly calls.

Based on how tight the button is, he would think longer with a pair so when he snap calls he always has a 10 here. I decide to raise to try and stack his 10x and make it 3100. CO folds and button snap calls again, clearly having a 10.

TURN: Qs (9900) I bet 4k and button quickly ask how much I have left, then raises to 9k.

My alarm bells are ringing, we have a boat but this tight player is not raising 109, 10J or K10, maybe A10 but with that hand I think he would consider raising on flop some of the time. The Qs sucks becauses if he had Q10s it would be in hearts or diamond, so the Q of spade doesn’t block his suited Q10 combos. I think he mainly always has Q10 here but getting 5:1 on a call with a boat I couldn’t fold yet, so i call.

River 4 (27900) i check and my opponent puts me all in for my remaining 16.5k. I tell him I’ve been coolered boat over boat and fold. He looks stunned, confused and a lil annoyed when I said i folded a boat.

Later on I try to get friendly with him and chat it up, then when I got changed tables I told him “tell me what u had, I’m leaving anyways” with a smile. He finally gives me the good knews confirming he had Q10.

I know this fold looks very nitty and definately not GTO. But it’s an exploitable fold I made in this specific situation.

I am also playing the main event which is a $950 buyin, I sold 50% of my action in this one with a 1.2 markup so I already made $100 in mark up which is nice. The structure for this tournament is great. 25k stack and lvl 1 at 25/50 and 1 hour levels! I just finished day 1 and bagged 36,900. Day 2 will start at 400/800/800 so i’ll have 45bb ish going to day 2. I played pretty well imo on day 1. Couple ingeresting hands but I’m too tired to post right now so I’ll post them later.

**I know I haven’t been updating much regarding the “recovery of an addict” that is the title of this thread and I’m pretty ashamed of it, almost decided to quit the thread all together because I’m just posting my poker results and nothing of progress in terms of exercise, meditation and reduction of drugs. Hopefully I will make more progress towards those goals, I have been sober for 4 days since arriving and will stay off the weed for this APT**

Heading to sleep and getting ready for day 2 now!

Poker

I busted day 2 of the main event at the end of the day, the tournament director had anounced that we will play 2 more hands before we arrive to day 3. I look down at K9s with 9BB in the HJ and happilly shoved but unfortunately ran into QQ that called and lost.
Finished 79th/580 entries, 58 players are ITM so it was painful to play 2 days and almost make it to the money only to bust, but thats tournament poker.

I havent played much live poker lately due to it being illegal here in Vietnam and the police have been very raiding very hard. I only played one live cash session where the blinds were 45 cent / 90 cent and I won like $160 (trying my best to convert vnd to usd)

Online I’ve lost about $100 playing NL 50 running a lil below all in EV (AA<KK). Made a deep run yesterday in a $22 tourney but bubbled the final table for 10th/351. My bust out hand we were 5 handed and HJ/UTG opened for a min raise off a 15bb stack. I look down at 77 with 7BB and Jam running into AA. Maybe i could of fold here since I suspect the 15Bb stack to be shoving alot and only minraising premiumss, i kinda felt it was AA and immediately regret my decisions and even more after I see AA, but maybe im just being results oriented, I would like to get some feedback on this hand if anyone is still reading this thread

Health

Since I will be in Asia for another 6 weeks without live cash games to play, this should be the perfect time for me to focus and achieve my health goals. I need to stop being a lazy fatass and start working hard if I want to climb the poker ladders, win some major tournaments that takes multiple days to play. I know I sound like a broken record but starting tommorow I am going to walk for 30 minutes daily as the first thing to accomplish in the morning. I’m thinking of adding 5 push ups here and there during breaks if I decide to grind some online poker.

So in the next 6 weeks I will update mainly on health and online poker.

Current online bankroll: $889 (made an initial $300 deposit at the start of 2019)
