update? how'd the New Year's Eve go?

My sincere apologies for the lack of updates, but I have been completely slammed as of late. My online poker agency has had a second boom as of late and international players have me answering texts and handling chips near 24/7. I have hired two staffers but I am still getting them acclimated so it will be a while until I can truly relax a bit. And with my wife's pregnancy progressing the house is a complete zoo with multiple members of her family over to help her. I am not complaining at all as I spend most of my time these days in the condo getting work done and I sleep there as well. My wife seems to be in good hands with her family, but we still make all of our doctor's appointments and I go home during the hours my daughter is awake so that I can spend time with her. My social life took a bit of a hit for a few weeks as well but lately I've found the time to fit that aspect of my life back in. I told my wife recently that when one works as hard as I do, it is difficult to not go out at night and "unwind." I realize that sounds like a bit of an excuse, but it is true for the most part as it is exactly how my father lived and how most Koreans live for that matter. We work all day and play all night from Korea to Los Angeles, and now apparently Cambodia.

These days I sleep around 6:00 AM and wake up around 2:00 PM, at which point I'll get to work on agency related matters after having breakfast. I'll go home around 7:00 PM and hang out with the family until everyone goes to sleep. Then I'll head back to the condo to grind some online if I have the time, it all depends on when everyone fell asleep. Then I'll have a late supper before heading out for the night with friends. I'll either just drink the whole night, come back to the condo alone and crash or I'll come back a bit earlier if I have a companion for the night. I'm much happier in life when I have a #2 girl, but I really don't want to do the mistress/goomah thing anymore so I'll stick to having a rotation of regulars instead of getting serious with any single one.

Speaking of regulars, one of them just left my condo and I'll be taking her to the island of Koh Rong next week along with a friend of mine and a companion of his choosing. We will probably book the hotel tomorrow as we have narrowed it down to two choices, The One Resort and Sol Beach Resort.




I'll post an update after I return of course, but in the meantime I will spend the next few posts sort of catching up on things.

So the wife and I did New Year's in Kampot and it was sort of an uneven trip. The first couple of days were fun as we caught up with some friends and then did all the touristy stuff we never did when we lived there. But as my wife's pregnancy is progressing she gets tired easily and so we spent the last two days pretty much in the hotel. I would not complain about that of course but the town just was not the way I remembered it. I have fond memories of living in Kampot and I always speak about it glowingly to everyone else. But I have reached the conclusion that I often romanticize memories in my mind in regards to times when I did not have much money. It becomes easier to say and think that life was "simple" rather than saying we were broke. My situation currently is far better of course so when I went to do the same things I did before or went to restaurants that I thought I loved, all of a sudden they were not so great anymore. In either case we got to stay at a really nice hotel and I was happy to give my wife a holiday and see her best friend before she would not be able to travel anymore.











I was glad to return to civilization four days later and immediately went out for dinner with some friends as I missed the restaurants in Phnom Penh dearly. We booked a private terrace at a Japanese restaurant on the riverside and ordered some BBQ. Good quality beef is not cheap in Cambodia but sometimes we just have to splurge and order it anyway.





Of course the night would not be complete without hitting up the bars, which we happily did after dinner. We ended up on street 104 and I ran into a girl that I used to take home years ago. She's put on some weight over the past few years to be sure, but she still knew how to put on a good show. I'll include a photo of her from when we first met and the video of her dancing a couple of weeks ago.

I AM REBORN! They finally opened the pool back up in my condo after having it shut for a few weeks while Phnom Penh had a mild covid scare. I had never used it before and now it's probably something I'll do every day. Not a very productive day thus far. After the swim I did have one of my staffers arrive so we could work on something but a friend called me over to a new game that just opened in town so I wanted to drop in and offer up my support. The staffer and I just got back to the condo so we're going to have to power through some things before heading out for drinks.

In all seriousness Yazzx is doing fine. He's grinding away online and doing quite well for himself. In fact most of the successful grinders here are playing online these days as games have been gangbusters during the pandemic.

It turns out that Russians celebrate Christmas on a slightly different date, shortly after the 25th. This is at least according to my friend. So he invited me to celebrate with him at one of our regular bar spots on street 104. I thought it was going to be a casual thing but he ended up buying gifts for me and some of the girls in the bar. This of course meant I had to buy him a gift and for the girls as well. I ended up getting my friend a cheese platter from one of the better restaurants in town and the girls some cosmetic products from Korea. Apparently there is a cake involved in the Russian Christmas along with a drink that I can only call Russian moonshine so we ended up getting pretty drunk, especially the girls.

Today has been hectic as I am preparing for the 3 night, 4 day trip to the island tomorrow. I'm taking one of my regulars and a friend of mine is coming along with a female companion as well. I've never been but I heard it is quite nice and the beaches are clean. It's about a 5 hour drive down to the city of Sihanoukville and then we have to catch a 90 minute ferry from there to get to Koh Rong. I posted 2 YouTube videos earlier for the resorts we were considering and we've decided to each stay in a different one. I wanted to stay in the One Resort because my girl really wanted to have access to the infinity pool and my friend preferred the spa in the Sol Beach Resort. We'll probably end up moving back and forth between the two to enjoy both locations. This whole trip will probably set met back at least $1K as the resort for the 3 nights is $305 and I've locked in the girl for $400 for the whole trip. Figure in meals and any other recreational activities and $1K will probably be easy to reach.

It'll be a working holiday for sure as I'm bringing most of my devices so that I can handle any agency related business. I'll put a lot of the work on my 2 staffers while I'm gone, but there are some things I'll still have to handle. And I'm sure there will be a lot of dead time between activities on the trip so I'll try to put in some volume as well since I've been running hot. I finished last week up about $1,150 across all my clubs and started off this week decently enough with a +$500 day today.

We arrived in Koh Rong today and it was quite the ordeal to get here. First the decision to stay up all night and catch our ride at 7:00 AM may not have been the best one. Luckily my friend rented a huge van so the ride was comfortable enough. We arrived in Sihanoukville at 2:00 PM after a 6 hour drive and promptly found out our ferry was delayed by 1 hour. Once we got on the speed ferry I quickly found out they weren't kidding about the "speed" part. And when we got dropped off they wouldn't take is directly to the resort so we had to walk about 3 football field lengths to get there. And now that we're here...

This place is the absolute nuts! The room is amazing and is right on the beach. The restaurant is more than decent and the service here is top notch. I was really worried about the WiFi but it's plenty strong and I was able to attend to most of my agency work this morning. The water in the beach is very clean and we had the fortune of coming during a full moon so we did a bit of night swimming. My girl seems to love everything as well so couldn't be happier. We were so tired though that we fell asleep at 10:00 PM and woke up a couple of hours ago at 4:00 AM. I got some work done, fooled around with my girl a bit and now we're just basically waiting for breakfast. On the docket today is more swimming, the spa then fishing in the ocean. We'll also try to check the other restaurants in search of some lobster or fresh crabs.

We got back from the island on Saturday after what has to be the best holiday I have ever taken. We were supposed to come back on Friday but extended by one day as we were having too much fun. The One Resort was absolutely fantastic and because of them I can now check off my bucket list staying in a room with a beach front view. The fact that it had an infinity pool was a bonus as my girl does not know how to swim, allowing us to both spend some time together in the water. The restaurant was great and our excursions out into the ocean were mind blowing. I've never been snorkeling before so we had to try it on this trip and every time I stuck my head in the water it was like a live episode of some National Geographic show. Unfortunately my phone isn't waterproof so I couldn't take any photos down below but it was truly an experience. We're already planning our next trip. Not much poker on the trip, which was a good thing to be sure. I'll have to make up the volume this week.

While I won't mention the name, there is one bar that many of us poker players have been going to for years. Actually it's not the bar but rather the group of girls that work together as they started out in one bar and have moved on twice since but we always seem to follow them to where they end up. Some of us have regulars within the group and they always show us and every player a good time in the bar as well. It was the main girl's birthday this past week, someone I personally have known for almost 7 years. My friend and I decided to go 50/50 on a gift and since he was already at Nagaworld I asked him to go to Swarvski, a jewelry store, to pick out something nice. I was hanging out with one of my regulars today who is her close friend and asked if she like the gift. I was told she didn't know quite how to react as she wasn't sure where she could wear it. My friend obviously meant it as a joke but I'm not sure it went off too well. In either case she seemed to enjoy the night and we hung out there until about 3:00 AM, hit up one more bar then called it a night.

I came to a realization yesterday. As many of you already know I don't have a shortage of regulars when it comes to the girls in the hostess bars. There isn't a night where I can't go to a bar and bring someone home or just call them over to the condo. I debate within myself frequently over who I like the best, who gives the best service and so forth. But I realize that none of that matters and is completely irrelevant. I do quite well for myself but admit I'm not a total baller like the Chinese who have come to reside in Phnom Penh. But if I was and I could afford one of those tall, light skinned gorgeous Chinese girls I would probably **** off every single one of my regulars in a heartbeat. And while what I'm about to say is not the reason for this, the truth is that they would all do the exact same thing to me. Just being honest.

I'm struggling to find volume today as I've played for about 2.5 hours thus far but only got on 1 table most of the time. I managed to get on a second table the last hour, a fortunate turn as I was up $300 on that game while being -$600 on the other one. I've made a bit under $40 in rakeback so far, giving myself 70%. The rake generated is a bit high at about 16bb/100, but that's probably accounted for by the fact I was playing on a mandatory straddle table at $1-$2-$4. I'm going for a quick swim, grab dinner, see the family then get ready for the twitch stream. I should be back on the tables at some point tonight.

Koh Rong Saloem seems still to be nice place. It has definitely changed a lot. It used to be quiet and primitive backpacker island when I was there 2013.
