Come and follow me as I crush 1/3 PLO and grind my way up the stakes to 25/50 PLO.

I am playing live PLO as a semi pro. I have a part time job but it doesn’t cover my living expenses, so I withdraw weekly from my poker bankroll. Generally I get in a minimum of 25 hours a week of poker. This excludes study and I am also getting coached.

With the goal of improving my game, I will mix in some live session. This goal is to get in volume because live play is so slow and I can learn a lot faster by getting in online volume and putting myself in different spots.

I will be posting reviews of sessions, interesting hands and hopefully receive some constructive feedback. I want this thread to keep me accountable in my journey.

At this stage I won’t be sharing my location, it will be kept private.

Played 2 sessions since starting this challenge. Ran significantly under EV.

I did make a couple mistakes during my first 2 sessions which were very clear. I seemed to play a little rushed in both spots. I will be focusing on taking longer with each decision in my next session.

In the past I have had significant problems with mistake tilt. This has improved a lot. I feel much more confident with my emotional game.

Thank you!

I have been playing for about 2 years now. Semi full time over the last 12 months.

Just realised I said I will be mixing in some live play . . . . Meant to say that I will be mixing in some online play to improve my game.

Isn't it stressfull that you need to take money from your roll every week? How many hours, and how much have you won so far this year?

How else are you supposed to pay yourself if you rely on poker for income? How do you think pros do it?

Not really, just like Strappz said above.

I aim to play a minimum of 25 hours per week.

I dont think any reg whitdraw money every week from the roll. That for me would be very stressfull. Max once a month if i would have played as a pro.

I see what you're saying. You're talking about a high frequency of withdrawals being stressful, not taking the money out.

I see the frequency as being completely irrelevant. If it's the same amount at the end of the year, there is no difference.

I actually treat my bankroll and my liferoll as the same money and then track expenses as I pay them out while checking them against my networth tally & poker P&L to make sure I counted correctly etc.

That sounds time consuming to me, but it's an individual thing, so whatever works I guess.

Really happy with my volume over the last 6 days since starting the thread. Haven't ran well but pretty happy with my play. There were a couple of lapses in some spots that I could definitely improve.

Played almost 36 hours for a profit of . . . . . . . $93. Current hourly is $2.59 p/hr. Not the dream start I was hoping for but hey, we are playing PLO here.

Would like some feedback on the hand below (all streets):

JcJsTcTh in MP with $550

Preflop - limp, limp, raise to 15, hero calls.

Flop - 4 handed ($64) KcTd8h
UTG (covers hero) checks, initial raiser bets $55, hero calls, LP (covers hero) calls, UTG calls.

Turn - ($284) Qc
check / check / hero?

Since my last post I have pretty much been on a ridiculous heater for the last week. Happy with my overall play in most sessions apart from one, my most recent one. Was playing far from my A game and should of stopped this session short.

Spent just under 30 hours at the tables this week, which is good volume for me. Only studied approx. 2 hours and watched some training videos. Studying time needs to improve.

Volume is going to be tough over the next couple weeks because of other commitments. I will be aiming for 25 hours a week but 20 might be more realistic for this week. Haven’t played any online yet, might be something I venture into this week or next.

Really disappointed with yesterday's session. I made a small profit but felt a little sick after I finished because of my performance. I was trying to compare it to playing bad and loosing . . . . I think this feels just as bad.

Way below my A-game. Think I am way to hard on myself when evaluating my play after sessions. Mistake tilt is something I have suffered from so think I should be more forgiving.

Looking forward to playing my A game next session.

Played 21 hours this week. Was always going to be hard to get hours in, will be same story next week. Running really good and playing fairly decent. Still not completely happy with performance, feel I have widened my opening range slightly and will focus on playing a little tighter pre.

I want to set some goals for the week ahead and keep myself accountable. I will be taking a vacation for a part of it so will be struggling to put in maximum volume. Goals for the next week.

Weekly Goals
  • 20 hours at the tables
  • 4 hours study
  • Gym 5 days
  • Eat healthy
  • Meditate daily
  • Read 30 mins daily

This week was difficult in terms of achieving my goals. I spent most of the week on vacation so had trouble with dedicating enough time to what set out to achieve. I have found that I stick to my schedule on the days that I am playing poker, but don't take the same approach on other days (regarding meditating, exercise etc).
  • 18.3 hours at the tables
Even though I was just off the 20 hour mark I aimed for, I am happy with my volume this week. I could of achieved the 20 hours but cut a session short because it turned into a terrible table. I could of stayed but it just wasn't worth it. I feel I have achieved my volume goal this week. Had another week of running really well. Pretty grateful to kick my challenge off on a heater . . . . fingers crossed it continues.
  • 1 hour study
    This needs to increase.
  • 3 days gym
2 days of weight training and 1 day cardio.
  • Eat healthy
Overall ok with most of my diet. Not easy to maintain the best diet while on vacation but overall wasn't terrible. Will improve this moving forward.
  • 3 days meditated
Would like to get more consistent with this.
  • 3 days of reading 30 mins
    Aiming to improve this week.

I want to set some goals for the week ahead. Very similar, apart from the volume I will aim to achieve at the tables.

I am going to look at the positive and be happy that I have made improvements on last week towards achieving my set goals, even though I haven’t achieved all my targets.
  • 37.12 hours the tables
Did great in terms of volume at the table. Unfortunately wasn’t all my A-game and I did run really badly over the week. My results have taken a hit. I don’t tilt when I just run bad, but definitely still suffer from mistake tilt (to a certain extent), I’m not donking off stacks but I do notice a mood change and definitely play less than optimal. Will look to work on this moving forward.
  • 1 hour study.
    Will aim to increase this.
  • 4 days exercise.
    2 weight training & 2 cardio.
  • Eat healthy.
Really let go on the weekend. Aiming to get this back on track. Weekdays were mostly fine.
  • 4 days meditated.
  • 3 days reading.

My goals for this week will be almost identical and I feel I am working towards them. Volume will come down to a target that I am looking to average weekly.

Update

Been pretty slack with my updates so heres one for the last couple weeks. Have been on a pretty long break even / small winning stretch. I have been overall happy with my game and feel I am constantly improving. I know this journey is a long one but so far I am happy with my progress. My study time has improved but I still aim to improve this significantly moving forward.

I just about always exercise and meditate on the days that I play but I really want to carry this momentum into the days that I don't. My diet has been a 7/10, this week it is closer to a 9/10. My recreational/ self development has taken a bit of a step back, have been focusing a lot of my time to putting in volume at the tables and have been keeping busy with other life things.

Haven't played much over the last week. Been really busy with other things in life. The times I did grind, I felt I played unprepared and was only doing it to get the hours in. Results have been negative, so looking to get back to playing my A-game and only playing when in a good state.
