Hello guys

After being registered for almost 6 years while only lurking basically I decided to give it a try with my own blog. My RL name is Lars although almost everyone is calling me Lasso . I'm 29 years old and I was studying until recently. Hopefully I continue to do so next semester since times have been very rough during the last years. I suffered from so many things that I wasn't even able to live my life properly. Well I could say I lost over 200 pounds over the past 3 years which probably isn't too bad but still I feel like I achieved nothing.

At this point my weak mind comes into play and that's why I chose that thread title. I would I'm decent poker player and overall kinda smart. But I'm really bad at handling losses and to be more specific losing sessions. Whenever I have a losing session I tend to play higher limits to chase the losses. I know that this is bull**** but I keep doing it. When ppl complain to me about stuff going wrong in their lifes where variance is involved I always say think longterm. But it seems I can't follow my own adivces which makes me a mental wreck I guess.

Anyway, I hope that I won't go broke and tilt away all the money since I actually like blogging and sharing stuff with others. The current situation is that I just recently tilt shotted PLO25 where I quickly made 2 stacks and ended up being down 2 stacks in the end. I was down to $24 but I still had like 6k coins which I converted into money. When I started playing today I was at ~$81.50ish. I played round about 1,5k hands today and my bankroll counts $124.37 which is really nice. Today I played PLO5 only.

Unfortunately my omaha manager trial just expired and I can't even check on anything. To me it's very important that my EV is in the good. That's also something bad and I know it. I'm very focused on EV which is definately not good for my game. Anyway, I'm currently trying to get a PT4 omaha trial so I can check on my results. Also a HUD would be beneficial I guess. I don't have $60 spare atm to be able to purchase a license :/.

People usually talk about their goals in the first post. Well I just hope I'm not going broke tomorrow. Let's say if I'm still blogging mid july it's a big achievement . Anyway, I leave this where it is now and if any of you guys have any kind of questions feel free to ask me.

Flop: ($0.50) Q T 4 (3 players)
SB checks, MP bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, SB raises to $1.48, MP calls $1.23, Hero calls $1.23

Turn: ($4.94) 5 (3 players)

SB shows Q 5 2 Q (three of a kind, Queens)
Hero wins $11.28
(Rake: $0.46)

I'm not happy at all how I played this hand. I want to play more hands in BTN position and I think this is a decent hand to do it with. Now on the flop mistakes were made. Calling the bet from MP is standard. We just got the low side of the wrap but still good price. I don't see SB raising all that much but when he did I kinda expected him to have at least top two but most likely a set. When SB raised I was quite sure MP folds most of the time. His call doesn't make too much sense but ingame I felt I get the odds to call here. Now I think folding was the right choice. My hand is very face up I think and implieds aren't that great. Turn was interested now. I planned on giving up to a blank. Well SB jammed and MP folded. 5 is an interesting card here. It gives me another 4 outs to a straight. Unless SB had backdoor spades I was in decent shape here to call it off. I needed something like 30% to make the call even but had 42%. Unless he has backdoor spades turn call should be good. I don't know though if flop call is good. If MP has the better wrap im pretty much toast, oh well.

UTG: $8.00
MP: $5.00
CO: $10.43

Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero is BB with 7 4 3 K
2 folds, CO raises to $0.17, BTN calls $0.17, SB calls $0.15, Hero calls $0.12

Flop: ($0.68) J 2 3 (4 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, CO checks, BTN bets $0.32, SB calls $0.32, Hero calls $0.32, CO folds

Turn: ($1.64) 5 (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BTN checks

River: ($1.64) 8 (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.44, BTN folds, SB calls $0.44

Final Pot: $2.52
Spoiler:
SB mucks 6 T K K
Hero shows 7 4 3 K (a flush, King high)
Hero wins $2.42
(Rake: $0.10)

I have no idea if I played that well at all. Not even sure about defending this preflop. Was definately one of my looser defends for sure. Call flop should be standard. Would called a bet on the turn too. I was a little concerned about the checks on the turn. I was thinking for a second that nut flush draws could check behind on the turn when they had nothing besides that going for them. On the river I think SB always leads the nut flush. I don't really know about the sizing here. I feel like worse flushes would still call for a little more but maybe it's ok like it is since I'm b/f here.

My recommendation (though you may already know this) to avoid tilt is, instead of abstractly "thinking longterm," think of it the way Sklansky suggests. Whenever you make a play that gives you correct odds, you win money. Likewise, when your opponent does something stupid and sucks out, they still lose money (even if they win the pot at that one instance). Everyone talks about EV, but it seems that a lot of people don't really understand it correctly.

As long as you get the money in good every time, you're winning money. End of story. Bye bye.

The other way to look at it is that you're going to have more bad beats than other players because they're playing worse cards than you. And furthermore, eventually, you're going to have to eventually suck out on them when you've made a mistake. Remember, just because you have 70% equity, or even 90% equity in a hand, it doesn't guarantee you anything.

Thx for the comment. For me suckouts aren't too bad. Sure it sucks but what hurts me the most are the setup spots. You know you played corrently but u still lose because the other guy just had it. Or stuff like they call against all odds when you pot and still get there and you have to fold although you get great odds. These situations sometimes drive me crazy.

That's a helluva goal. Good luck with that. If we get a little more realistic than this draconian, hyper-idealistic, fantasy-time standard that just won't die in the literaturez, then we could drop a lot of the bogus ego that supports it. "Every time" is lala land and it comes from the same place that "I could never miss an algebra problem" comes from.

P.S. Make sure to see "The BFG" if you are a "giant peach." Should be grand.

Hey guys,

yesterday I played a **** ton of hands. I ended up playing almost 5k hands and it was really hard towards the end. Not because I felt tired but because I had a really unlucky day imo. I was pretty card day and nothing really worked out for me. I'll just throw on the graph from my grind so far since this blog has started.

Spoiler:

Well, I really dislike the way I run above EV. I obviously played like too many hands yesterday. This for sure is an argument why I ended up losing. I can remember several bad calls or well obvious calls where I should have folded but I couldn't help it. Zoom pool was down to like 60-80 players but there were so many more fish than usually. It was basically insane but I didnt get any spots to stack them. It was really frustrating. Then this was one of the last hands as well which made me quit lol.

It was so weird when he minraised and I was jokingly telling myself he has 99xx haha . Oh boy x)

Anyway. I'll take some time away from playing and will go through my stats and some hands. I did a quick look at them after the session and I already found a big leak. I currently have 2.58 3bet preflop which is horrible. I also know what causes this. Whenever someone raises I tend to think they got aces and therefore they are gonna 4bet 100% of the time which is ridiculous. I made so many notes already whenever I saw some reggish players opeing hands like 3456 from utg and stuff like that. I basically don't have any KKxx combos in my 3betting range which is bad. Especially vs CO and BU I gotta raise much more. I underrep my range so hard and end up giving up too much since I dont have initiative.

Also I think I gotta add some more barreling. When u watch educational videos and they say we can cbet here since theres many turns that gives us good equity I tend to check too much. It surely doesn't work all the time but that's really something im lacking. I feel whenever someone calls on FD board he has to have a fd. And whenever the 3rd color came I would give up most of the time. Just horrible.

Also I want from palying 25/15 on the first day to less than 22/13. Still a lot of improvement possible which is good considering the results

Cya later guys
