Hello there, I hope you're excited to read a wall of text from a random person on the interwebs. So, I am 23 years old (when did I get so old
), I've always enjoyed playing and learning various games and over a month ago I became interested in online poker. As it turns out I really enjoy it, both playing and studying strategy. So far I've been donking it up on Stars and learning more about the game through various free content available online but as I am having a lot of fun I decided I might try to take this poker thing a little more serious.
As I've been lurking around these forums for the past few weeks I'd figured making a thread here might be a nice way to motivate myself to keep track of my progress and hold myself accountable. Also adding a slight social element to the grind might make it more fun. Game of choice for me will be MTTs which I like as everyone is on even ground, u don't need to put much focus on table selection, and u get into more varied, interesting strategic positions. And of course, the possibility of making that big score is always exciting. To start off I'm going to drop some money on Upswing monthly membership, get their tournament masterclass and set myself a goal for the next 30 days to put in a minimum of 2 hours of study each day.
I do have a full-time job so I am somewhat limited in the time I can devote to Poker. Initially I won't be putting in much volume as I am planning to spend the majority of time studying the game, and when I do play I probably won't be playing too many tables so I'm able to focus more when implementing new concepts. I'll hopefully increase my volume and make some goals towards it in a few months if I feel comfortable starting to fire up more tables and adjusting my study/play ratio.
I started with an initial deposit of $20 on Stars little over a month ago, through deposit bonuses and being incredibly lucky playing some HUSNGs and MTTs I ran up my roll to roughly $480. However, I have withdrawn the larger part of it to partially cover the cost of training courses and software. At this moment my Stars balance and effective BR stands at
$128.49.
My Sharkscope graph so far:
I'm aware I've been a very lucky fish (
) and I don't expect to keep winning in the short term. The BRM plan that I'm locking myself into until the end of 2018, after which I'll reassess, is that I'll always allow myself to play MTTs up to $1.10 as that is basically the lowest limit where u find a decent volume running at Stars, and if I do go on a 100+ BI downswing I don't mind redepositing the $ to cover the volume I can put in at those limits. For moving higher than $1.10 I want to have at least 100 BI, and for higher than $5 at least 200 BI. I realize it's loose for MTTs but as I'm not doing this for a living and I am willing to redeposit if I go bust I'm taking some liberties. I know to most here it's a laughably low amount of money but atm I just want to learn and so far I'm having fun which, at least for the moment, is the most important part.
