In the above hand:
As you already alluded to, I'd open shove the flop, and expect to get called by worse very often. With the pot size you're committed on this flop, and some people will view the shove as bluffy/drawy. And people do stupid things in splash pots. If you're beat that's bad luck, but folding is never an option here so just ship it in there.

I'm leaning that way if I get in a similar spot in the future. Especially at the Tank given the player base.

Big plans this weekend with Mrs yurk out of town till Monday in DC. Going to really try and hit the tables and grind some hours! Hopefully I get some good hands to discuss in the thread and hit an "important" 100-hour mark milestone for 2016.

Plan is Shark Tank on Friday/Saturday and Hollywood on Sunday.

Let's go go go go go!

Hey readers,

End of the month so I wanted to go over results for March and Q1 of 2016 and see how my 2016 goals were going.

Really good results in March and a much needed turnaround from January/February. I feel like I'm making progress and just need to focus on a couple of situations/board textures a bit more to plug some of the leaks I'm noticing.

Anyways here's the details plus some bonus graphs:

Goal Review through Q1/2016

~2016 Goals~

[] Minimum of 250 hours of live 1/2 NLHE/PLO
On track to crush this goal, 400 hours looks doable at this point.
[] 5bb+ Hourly Winrate
So far so good.
[] Avg. Session Length of at least 4 hours
Need to work on this but scheduling is always an issue for me with other life committments and I just want to be able to put in hours when I can.
[] Active poster in LLSNL Forum
Need to post more and be better at taking notes at the table to discuss in this thread and in LLSNL.
[] Still be posting in this thread on 1/1/2017
Still here and rambling nonsense.

Alright then, I'm thinking about taking a tourney shot tomorrow to start off April. $175+$25 at the Shark Tank with a $25k guarantee. I think this field should be on the softer side, and an overlay is possible. Wish me luck and hopefully I'll make Day 2 on Saturday and bink it.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Hey ladies & gents,

Update on the month so far. I took my first tournament shot on Friday with a $175+$25 buy-in event at the Shark Tank. The event promised a $25k guarantee and I felt like the field would be soft enough for taking a shot. I felt pretty good about my play for the most part but ended up busting 49th out of 157. I definitely feel like the value was there and may attempt another one in the future.

Only two 1/2NL sessions for the month so far. Been fairly busy at work and finishing up the requirements for getting licensed for foster care. Planning on being finished with that by the end of April and possibly having a little one in the yurk household for the first time is exciting and terrifying. Don't know what the immediate impact on this change will have on my time at the tables but hopefully I can manage and prioritize my time well and come to a reasonable hourly output that the wifey finds acceptable.

Only one hand to share today. 1/2NL game at Hollywood Columbus, villain had just sat down at the table about one orbit ago. Seemed comfortable and bought in for around $300ish and sat in the open seat on my direct left. I had about a little over $400 at the time.

Hand #1

$300 Effective Stacks

PF - I'm on the BTN with QJ, UTG+1 limps, folds to me and I raise to $12, Villain 3bets to $36, UTG+1 folds, I call. ($74)

Since Villain seemed competent at first glance, I decided to defend IP just to set up the dynamic that I wasn't going to give up my BTN opens that easily. I could have let this go but I was stubborn.

F - 398, Villain bets $40, I think for a few seconds and raise to $100, Villain shoves for $224, I tank for a minute or so and call. ($562)

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about this in retrospect. This really shouldn't hit Villains 3Bet range as hard as my 3Bet flatting range, but at 1/2NL I don't know if I want to get in these spots for maybe thin value at best. I think a better move against a normal 1/2NL player is to flat the flop and see if Villain double barrels and re-evaluate on the turn.

T - K, ($562)
R - 9, ($562)

Villain shows AK for the win.

I'll try to be better in May to not let the thread become to dry between posts but with everything that has been going on in April it was tough between family, work, and life commitments.

Wishing everyone rungood in May and the best!

Hellos Internets,

Played a few sessions so far in May but the results have not been stellar. I don't really have many hands to discuss since the few played involved losing flips and in general just taking the bummer side of variance.

I do have one hand to get everyone's thoughts on though, I think this was the right call but we'll see if others have different views.

Hand #1

$1/$2 NLHE game at the Shark Tank. Full table that was unusually good given the HPO event was going on over at Hollywood Columbus and seemed to snatch away most of the Tank regulars.

One particular character was the "Pizza Man" that took a $300 buyin up to around $2k and then gave it all back and then some. Sadly, no hands against this villain but the game was revolving around him.

So on to the hand...

PF - Two folds and UTG+2 (~$500) opens for $15, HJ (~$600) calls, CO (~$600) call, and I call on the BTN with QT and around ~$600 in play. ($63)

With the deep stacks, and UTG+2 being a weaker player and having both absolute and relative position in the hand, I think flatting with QTs is fine. HJ seemed pretty snug and hadn't been involved much over the couple of hours at the table. CO was trickier and seemed competent.

F - KQ5. UTG+2 checks, HJ checks, CO bets $35, I raise to $100, UTG+2 folds, HJ calls, and CO folds. ($298)

Great flop but warning bells are going off with HJ flatting my reraise. I think Ax, any Broadway, QQ, and 55 are all possible. I can't give much weight to KK since I feel that even the nittiest of 1/2 players would 3bet it preflop, but QQ seems possible but unlikely given my blocker.

T - 2. HJ bets $100 and I call. ($498)

Not alot of info on why HJ would donkbet small here. Ax would make sense for value or maybe a blocking bet of some sort with QQ or 55. It feels like it should be a gin card for me but villains line and tightness have me worried about a way ahead, way behind situation so I opt to flat.

R - 2. HJ bets $200 and I tank for a few minutes and fold. ($698)

I really think I'm beat here, even getting basically 3-1 on the call I don't think I'm good here nearly enough against this particular villain. I tell the villain to show me the pocket 5s after I fold and he says "Good fold. You called it." Whether or not he was leveling me, I don't know but given his quiet nature I think he may have told me the truth. Thoughts?

I plan on playing a few more sessions this month but with work, going out of town next weekend, and other life commitments at the moment, I think this could be a low volume month for me.

Here's the results so far...

Subbed.

Some of your January hands have you raising hands that you'd already straddled.
Are you still straddling, either on the button or UTG?

Thanks for the sub! Part-Time Privateer: A LLSNL Journey

I've basically given up on the straddle UTG, unless deep and the whole table agrees to straddle. BTN straddles are more of a table feel situation at Hollywood. The Shark Tank doesn't allow BTN straddles and since I've been playing there more often the last few months it has not come up as often.

If no one posts in a PG&C thread for 1.5 years, can it return from the brink? I hope so! Instead of giving in to making another thread to cast on the PG&C pile, I will (hopefully) bring this ship back to port.

So what happened in a year and a half? Many things. I had to reread this short lived thread just to remember what was happening at the time I wrote this. So basically, everything was going okay pokerwise but then I got doomswitched (aka played bad + ran bad) in May 2016 and then just said "yurk, you're not having fun anymore at this activity so let's stop" and didn't play much until recently.

I had a new family dynamic (adopted a daughter through foster care), got a new job in October 2016 which paid much better but had a steeper learning curve, and generally didn't think much about poker. I played only 5 sessions from June 2016 to October 2017. Then, I started getting the itch again and played 7 sessions from the end of November 2017 until now.

So I did some thinking during a recent family trip to Colorado this past week and decided I wanted to jump back into the live cash scene in 2018 and see where the wind takes us.

Let's get a bit of a refresher of my last three years of live 1/2 NLHE results.

2015

Cash Game Earnings (NET): $966
Cash Game Hours: 17:39
Cash Game $/HR: $54.71
Cash Game BB/HR: 23.97

2016

Cash Game Earnings (NET): $1,587

2017

Total

Cash Game Earnings (NET): $2,815
Cash Game Hours: 187:15
Cash Game $/HR: $15.03
Cash Game BB/HR: 6.74

So definitely not a crusher and "lolsamplesize" but it is what it is.

Goals for 2018

Update since my reboot of this thread last week.

Only have played two sessions so far this year but luckily both were for 4+ hours (which is an improvement for me in terms of maximizing my session time when I have the ability to get out and play). I felt good about my play in both sessions and didn't run particularly good card-wise but I minimized losses for the most part and maximized value in a couple of big hands to come out ahead.

I may post some hand histories once I find some that are worth sharing.

Update on last night session. Got to book my biggest loss since in 69 sessions for a -$635 night! Yay!

I felt like the game was pretty decent but nothing was really going my way. Could not get in hands with the spots at the table, card dead the whole evening, try to isolate weaker players and end up getting involved with tricky regs, two hands with two overs + flush draws vs single pairs not making it there for a buy-in apiece. Just not a very fun night.

Luckily, I don't think I was steaming or playing scared with my decisions but I find once I get to 3 BI's down I'll probably just call it a night.

Ended up playing on Tuesday night due to a schedule change. Game was pretty good but ended up booking a loss after Q9 vs 97 AIotT on J86T and ran it twice with diamonds hitting both times.

Have a fun one to share which would have been the biggest 1/2 pot of my life.

10 handed and ~$465 effective.

Pre-Flop:

I'm dealt A2 on the BTN. UTG limps, UTG+2 limps, folds to me and I make it $15. SB (a MAWG who is there to "gamble" and likes to make moves post-flop) calls and BB (late 20's/early 30's WG who is a regular at the Tank/Hollywood and is a competent LAG) 3Bets to $40. UTG and UTG both call (?!) and its $25 more to me with $150 in so I make the call knowing SB is going to come along (which he does).

Flop: 4Q5 ($200)

SB donks $200 and BB shoves, UTG and UTG+2 both fold. Pot is $1,050 and I'm getting about 2.5 - 1 immediate on the call. I think for a moment and make the call (especially since SB is coming along so pot is basically $1,225)
and SB calls as well.

Turn: 5 ($1,225)
River: J ($1,225)

SB shows Q5 and BB doesn't show. Fun times.

Anyways, going to play tomorrow night and hopefully run better when the games are this good!

Quick post. Ended up playing yesterday evening at the Shark Tank and played well given how card dead I was for the entire session. No complaints since that happens and I was happy with how I responded. Could have been up a bit more but for some unlucky run outs in a handful of spots. Ended up +$37 for the evening.
