I recently have been taking poker more seriously and I wan't to challenge myself to win $25k playing online.

I'll start off playing 50NL with exactly 40 buy ins and I'll be playing around 4 to 6 tables at a time. I'm quite nervous for this first stage because I'm being quite aggresive with my bankroll but I'll just pray that the poker gods will be on my side. I'll also be posting daily graphs and some hands I struggled with.

Day 1 "The Swings Are Real"
Profit: $111.60
Bankroll: $2152.28

Never had this many swings in one session before. Got coolered several times combined with playing bad in about 20 of my hands cost me a lot. Oh well I think I'm going to maybe shorten my sessions a bit because I realized I wasn't focusing later on in the session and it cost me a few buy ins.

Goal for tommorow: Only make <10 mistakes through the whole session.

Day 2 "Variance < Volume"
Profit $49.70
Bankroll: $2351

Worst run of cards I've ever ****ing seen. Lost all but two 80/20 preflop all ins. Lost to quads with flopped top boat twice. Then nut flush to straight flush. And a ton of sets being drawn out by straight/flush draws.

You know what eventually beats variance though... Volume. Thats why I just decided to play 7k hands in one day because I can't just afford to lose 20% of my role in one day and wine about variance.

I might of had terrible luck but I also made countless mistakes today while playing so I'm going to plug those leaks before tommorows session.

Leaks
1. Not 3betting enough in the blinds (espically against late opens)
2. No more spaz/tilt calls
3. When you run into one of the billion short stackers change your playstyle completely.
4. Dont bluff semi bluffs into super strong range.
5. Don't spaz jam for value against the fish... they are catching on.

Day 3 "What The Hell Am I doing"
Profit -$221.61
Bankroll: $2139.10

Session was filled with so many terrible plays. Also one fish kept going all in randomly and I knew this so I called with margianal hands instead of just avoiding high variance and this cost me $100. So dumb of me to do this.

I decided to probably call it a day because I was spewing away stacks left and right for reason. Might play a later session when I'm actually not just spewing in every hand.

POST FOR ACCOUNTIBLITY AND SELF CONTROL

I now realize that spewing/tilting is destroying my win rate.
As of 7/9/17 I will eliminate all tilting/spewing from my game completely.
If I can not follow this then I have already failed my challenge of earning $25,000.

Day 4 "A New Start"
Profit -$20.15
Bankroll: $2170.68

Ran -$310 under EV today but I decided I won't put all in ev in the graph anymore as I feel like its a truely useless stat and its quite misleading.

I was forced to play 100nl today because no games at 50nl or 25nl were even running. Will defintely not play those stakes again as I felt way too uncomfortable. Really can't wait till I finish up my 100% deposit bonus so I can switch to another site. (Idk if its even worth to grind it out anymore tbh)

Overall in todays session I played great and I only made 5 mistakes overall. I ran terrible but that doesn't matter I'm just glad at how well I played. Can't wait for tommorows session so I can hopefully start actually posting some posotive graphs!

So I realized to get number 1 on the weekly leaderboard I have to out grind people who are playing 100nl and they get 2x the points for every hand...

So for the next 7 days I'll probably have to play around 8k hands a day.

I'm up for the challenge though.

Hey, I think you got it wrong. The green line should be considered the "useless" stat and if anything you should be showing only the EV line.

And dang, 8k hands a day.. Going to be hard to keep up your A game but best of luck to you!

I'll add the EV line for my later session today. Goal is to achieve 8000 hands at 7bb Ev/100. Should be achievable since I'm plugging all my leaks pretty quickly and I believe I have an edge on the player pool.

Call me superstitious but I just know that things will begin to turn around soon.

Day 4 Second Session "Just Gotta Keep Playing/Improving"
Profit -$219.24
Bankroll: $1982.87

"Last two tabels open before taking break. Here is UTG on both tabels with sit out next BB clicked". Hero is dealt Aces on both tabels loses one all in to a set and the other one to a river flush where he was pot commited and forced to sigh call :|"

Whelp not a posotive graph thats for sure. I did play great preflop this time with a lot of 3beting from the blinds so at least my red line is improving and hopefully I can keep that up.

However, I did make some mistakes preflop by not trapping with aces against agro opponents. When I did trap them though they always ended up sucking out me with weird ass hands for example T8s which runner runnered me for a rivered straight 0_0. Ended up losing -$153 today with aces today :\

I have been tracking my mistakes because I still made plently of them this session. A lot of them are calling trying to hit my draws with terrible odds so I'm going to let a lot of those hands go a lot earlier now. Also my mistakes include not paying attention, bad raises against short stacks, calling with bad odds with a margian hand preflop to see if I can outflop someone. And I had 1 spaz moment where I wasted 80bb.

Ended up counting how much all my mistakes today combined cost me and its a whopping 402bb! Jesus. So yea I'm making a lot of mistakes and I just need to focus on not making them while playing so I'm going to cut the tabels down to 6 and try to focus as much as possible next session. Meaning the goal of hitting number 1 on the leaderboards for the week is a definite no. I defintely think the more hands I play the less focused I am and thats been costing me big time.

Graph for the challenge so far.
14.5 k Hands
Profit -$301.20 (Rakeback has basically nullified this though and I'm -$17.83 from the start of the challenge)

My graph is so swingy espically from the 100nl games.
I think I found my big problem though. I need to stop looking to get all the chips in everyhand.
I try to get into these big hands even with marginal hands so I can improve my winrate a lot by stacking someone. However, I need to focus more on trying squeze out each and every blind I can get out of someone in every hand single hand I play instead of having just these Huge all in hands..

I find that when I'm tempted to choose one decision over the other due to fatigue/laziness or whatever, I try to recompose and ask myself, "If I was playing my A game, would I make this call/fold?" Then followed by a quick break always helps me play my best game for as long as possible.

Feel free to post some hand histories too. I'm not saying that you are but it does seem like it is in the realm of possibilities that you're maybe being slightly too result oriented. Sometimes, either some feedback or reassurance can help mentally and it can definitely go a long way as one less tilt per session tends to go a long way in terms of stress/motivation to play the next day/overall quality of your game/etc.

Cheers!

I believe your 100% right about being too results oriented. I realized the majority of my losses are from being 1 Buy In down in the session which makes me want to make it back quickly. This want of being even in the session causes me to make terrible decisions post/pre flop which ends up makes me lose even more buy ins creating a snowball effect. If you look at my graph you'll notice most of my loses are extremly rapid and then I grind it back up. If I could focus on eliminating this snowball effect and just focus on the grinding profit part I think the graph will start pointing the other way.

BTW thanks for the advice and following the thread. Its nice to know that someone is also intrested in me succeding in this challenge

Haha, was in the same spot you were a few months ago literally; chasing leaderboards and losing massive BIs and such. Even playing similar stakes lol.

I also had similar problems too. I always thought I can end the day even or profitable if I played long enough/well enough, etc. Which sometimes led to rash decisions.

I started to look at it a different way, I forgot where I read it but someone said that your poker career as a whole is just one long session (I forgot the exact wording, it sounded a lot better before haha). So just focus on +EV decisions and you'll do fine

I realized that I need a completely new mindset to do well in online poker and that this thread wasn't helping me mentally by always making me want be closer to reaching a online poker bankroll of $25,000 and making me feel personally bad for having a losing session/day. My new thread is going to be about me playing the best poker I can instead of reaching a specific amount of dollars to make me feel satisfied with myself.
