met first goal. ran like a good it was absurd. no where near 80 hrs or on pace for it. i ended up staying out pretty late thursday...i finished my oral argument assignment very late. was told i knew the facts and law really well but my position was pretty much unwinnable (was arguing for admitting evidence obtained in a warantless search).

i ended up getting to AC really late friday night and shoottook 10/25 since a massive whale had seat open on his left. also the 5/T looked ****ty and there was a long list. it was kinda insane to shottake 10/25 but i did really well so i'm happy. i also felt comfortable playing at that limit without having sold any action. idk if that is because i am too willing to gamble or whatever but shottakes are rare for me.

some interesting hands:

literally my first orbit at 10/25, huge megawhale 40something black dude opens utg, i 3b T8o in CO (5handed) to 225. villain calls. he is eff stack w 2.5k
flop Q55r, he check calls 275
turn brick that brings BDFD we both check
river 8 he leads for 750
we snap he has AKo. lols.
i think his range is mostly Ahi floats or small pocket pairs he turns into a bluff. i didnt think he was capable of betting like, QT or JJ for value. another reg who hadn't seen me playing that high made a comment that he was thinking of cold-4betting me pre cause i looked scared but couldn't tell if i looked that way because i had AA. i probably did look scared but i almost always feel really nervous my first 5-15 minutes of a poker session regardless of stakes until i settle into grind mode.

build stack up more, mostly by being really active preflop, get into this hand:
opn AA 75 in CO (4500 deep, villain covers)
asian reg. who is playing like total psychopath postflop constantly raising my cbets and calling down, 3bets huge (325) on btn
i 4b to 850. he tanks for like 4 or 5 minutes, looks like he's gonna fold a few times, then finally piles it in. we RIT he says he has a king when it flops...i ask if he has a "kings or a king?" he says "king." then asks if i have aces, i say yes and he mucks. i don't think he would tank so long with AK and i would've chopped vs KQ/KJ/KT so idk what he had. i guess AK but that hand is such an easy shove imo. he may have been monkeying around. we'll never know!

i get to around 10k and cashout after this hand occurs:
open 44 utg to 75, scottish guy who had built 40k stack at 5/T plo earlier in night and has come back from drinks 3bets MP to 300, reg flats one seat to left, SB cold 4s to >1500, i obv fold, scottish guy instantly rips it in for 4500, hoodflatter folds, SB snaps AK.
scottish guy says he knew he had that they RIT and 88 wins both lol. someone told me next day he plays big plo with sam trickett in london and another reg said they saw him playing 10k/20k HKD in macau. still so absurd to happily pile 8s there...

mbn to just win 40k in a day like it's nbd tho!

next day at 5/T:
fish open limps shorthanded utg, i raise to 50 in MP with Q8s, israeli fish in blinds calls. 1500 eff.
flop: A93r one club, i cbet 80, blind folds, limper thinks for a while, puts his chip on his cards, thinks longer, then calls. i guess i am worried about A3 but i think he may just be taking one off here with TT or sth.
turn: brick we both check.
river: Q. he leads 200 pretty fast. i decide to raise to 525 to rep AQ/QQ but get called by 99 and have to show my hand
how the **** does he not shove? i guess my bluff is OK then if he's afraid of QQQ. i think i do rep really strong and i can get like all Ax and maybe even A9 or A3 to fold often enough.

get moved to main game:
open AK utg 40, like 4 ppl call including one massive fish, good 30year old reg who is definitely winning player and can 3b light and has seen me open like 98s and stuff from utg 3bets btn to 240
i think for a while and call, massive fish in his mid-40s who's nursing a beer calls. the fish has been opening to 75 and calling 3bets with like 95s then ch/folding flop.
i have ~3700, reg covers, fish is eff stack w like 1.8k
flop: JT9...i check. fish bets 200, reg calls, i check-raise to 800. pot was a lil over 800 when the fish donked for 200.
i'm not really worried about the fish as i think he has like J3s/Tx/random bare Q or 8 like always. i think he should be folding >50% of time. as for the reg, i have nutblocker and every combo of sets and i guess 4-5 of KQs and 87s in my perceived range. so AA is pretty easy fold for him and he raises flop w sets or straights vs the fish.
fish snap-folds. reg tanks for like 4min then folds. he had QQ i guess?

my stomach was bothering me a lot and eating 4 tums/drinking lots of ginger ale was doing nothing to help so i leave a few orbits after this hand.

monday i don't really grind. played a bit online and got some studying done. a few of my friends from lawschool were at borg and i got a bunch of drinks with them/with friends at dinner for st paddys/drank heavily at 1/2 table. i ****ing get cut off which was absurd because i was not acting drunk at all i was just ordering too many drinks cause my friends had come by briefly and i ordered stuff for them.

i go full ****** at 1/2, only folding like once postflop after i had put a bet in. absurd hand happens where i open TT and make merge play on 853Q5 with ~450 eff stacks. the guy goes into tank forever so i think "yay he is considering calling me with a set"...then he flips over the K and my jaw drops like 3' and i probably give off 80 live tells. i also say "uhhh isn't his hand dead?" to the dealer after it's been exposed like 30 seconds. i was trying to make it look like i was reverse angle-shooting but my friend said i seemed like i was gonna vomit and that wouldn't have worked on anyone with half a brain. villain eventually does fold though. soooooo absurd to fold vs guy doing shots at table and playing every other hand.....i didn't show because i felt kinda bad but maybe i should've in retrospect?

i spew off 300$ to my friend after this trying to run an insane bluff with a gutshot and 2 overs. so i finish 1/2 -80 . this actually wasn't a bad result considering i spewed off like 300 in first 20 minutes of playing.

i was cut-off not long after this was mega-heated, racked, and went to order drinks while i watched a non-poker friend play craps at $10 table. after i left poker room a dealer told the table i was acting like how i always act (and that i didn't seem drunk at all) and did a really good impersonation of me. i wish i had seen it and my friend said he couldn't do it right.

me and mike continue to drink till 9:30am and check in extra night at borg so we don't have to check out at 1pm while still massively hungover. we get to parx at like 7pm on tuesday. i win a bunch at 10/10 kinda fast...first hand of note:
utg+1 opens, 4 ppl call, i 3b A9o to 240 (which was probably to small but i think people's calling/4betting ranges are pretty ineleastic).
PFR tanks forever and folds, another fold, tilty bad indian guy who had just rebought for 700 reships, folds to me. i make pretty disgusted face ask how much more it is and have to call. i pair the 9 and win bc i am a luckbox. i ran it in equilab today and was kinda shocked by how clear a call it was i thought it would be really close:. even giving him stronger range i still have at least 40%.

literally 30min after i arrive at parx my friend keith asks if i want to leave and get drinks knowing that i don't drink at poker table (unless ****ing around at 1/2). i win a few pots and am at ~5k. there were 3 people at table who covered me. at this point i start getting INSANELY nervous about getting felted and the thought of how horrible it would feel to lose is going through my head constantly. literally every time i get dealt a hand i start thinking about the fact i could lose 5k if i play it. or even a few hundred dollars. normally i never think about this. it was kinda scary tbh. i decide to leave even though my game is super good which i think was +lifeEV because i would have been really tilted to lose 2k that night.

so i basically hit and run (played a little over 2 hours) and go get drinks with my friend keith at the casino. a friend from LV meets us there and we then go to a horrible bar a few blocks away with the worst.music.ever.. i offer to play chinese with them but they wouldn't for >25c a point. so i play darts with keith and the kid basically tries and destroy the machine every throw. maybe half of his darts didn't bounce out after being fastballed into the machine. it was lols.

i have a crazy urge to grind and a strong urge to get to 10/25 asap. dramatically boosting my boostroll by sheer force of grind
o well inner degen came out and i just sat 10/25. i am obviously pretty glad i did but i am aware of how good i run. no higher than 5/T for a long time!

as opposed to tourney bink/luckboxing/shottake will also do a lot for my confidence, which is already pretty high. it will also give me time to study the rest of the semester.
the heater and having such a good time with my friends was actually demotivating wrt school

came back to nyc earlier tonight and having a ton of trouble cracking my civil procedure book open and writing this post is basically form of procrastinating. ty 2+2 idk if anyone reads this thread. i can post some online hands from my laptop if such people exist cause had a lot of interesting spots and games definitely got a lot harder at nl200-400.

i will power through Rules for Pleadings regardless!

i also broke up with my gf last week. i feel quite relieved actually and happier being single. i can be more rockstarish now.
honestly, not having her around probably allowed me to make a bunch more money, have more fun, and stress less since i didn't have to worry about entertaining/feeding her. the older reg i went out to dinner on st paddys day with is going through a divorce and he was like, ridiculously happy too. seemed to be really enjoying himself and looked very cheerful/well-dressed each time i saw him in the past month whereas when i used to play with him before he would look chronically pissed-off and wear pretty standard grinder uniform.

so ya, being single is cool! live heaters are better though!

oh i also tried dabbling in UFC betting...i should not do this in the future even though i have a really good track record in the past. with a $200 unit, i bet 1 unit on shields, condit, and hendricks each. hendricks bet was pre-weighin too so the line was still at -400 when i made it.

sports betting puts me on crazy tilt and makes me sweat extremely hard. during each fight i was more nervous and scared than at any point when i was playing 5/T or 10/25. or flipping for larger amounts AIPF online.

seeing condit's ACL snap caused me to do this vs a massive fish lol:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4.00 BB (6 handed) - Party-Poker Converter Tool from http://flopturnriver.com

SB ($1,181.76)
BB ($400)
UTG ($1,964)
Hero (MP) ($408)
CO ($400)
Button ($431)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 2, Q
UTG calls $4, Hero raises $16, 2 folds, SB calls $14, 1 fold, UTG calls $12

Flop: ($52) 10, 4, 3 (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $30, 1 fold, UTG calls $30

Turn: ($112) 5 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $70, UTG calls $70

River: ($252) 6 (2 players)
UTG bets $249, Hero raises to $292 (All-In), UTG calls $43

Total pot: $836

UTG had 9, 7 (flush, ten high).
Hero had 2, Q (flush, Queen high).
Outcome: Hero won $833

honestly if i had bricked i prob would've tripled off since i didn't think he had Tx too often and i wasn't sure i had enough SD value.

Try playing $1/2 NL while having >$5k on the line in sports. That's my 2011 in a nutshell.

uhh he said "good call i don't have anything." then on flop i said i have a pair and he mucked after the board ran out. i usually don't make people show i need to work on that...it feels dbaggy tho and i never make fish do it unless they are regulars.

lols me and sison once bet $40 each on a SF giants game at wynn and i was sweating every inning like i was awaiting biopsy results. like an hour earlier i lost a 1.4k pot and didn't even flinch.

dunno how you handled it...also why play 1/2-1/3 with that kind of roll?

have barely played since spring break, here is a funny hand (not at a casino):

live 10/25:

hero has kinda crazy image, have been playing most hands. eff stacks are ~5.5k hero covers.

nit opens EP to 100, huge whale calls in CO, hero 3b QTs on btn to 450 (nit will usually fold and fish will call).

both call, pot ~1400. flop J98r. ch/ch/bet 1k nit folds fish calls.

turn 2s (BDFD), fish leads 2k i jam pretty fast. guy literally stares at me for 4 minutes, says "ok whatever you look like a nice guy i call" then says:
"do you have a straight?"
"....yes"
"sigh i knew it i'm drawing dead." and throws his cards into the muck.

[5/18/2014 4:32:09 PM] Andrew: i think i played like 20 hours of poker in the last day and a half

i wrote that in the 5/11 message in the middle of finals, and it was definitely true at the time. for a while i didn't feel like opening a poker client at all and i had no desire to even play chinese on my phone. i did play live a few times after spring break but it felt like a chore. my aversion wasn't due to a bad experience or anything, just poker seemed unappealing (kinda in the same way i have no desire to ever play certain videogames or baccarat). this was good tho (i guess) as school is important.

now...i am in the complete opposite mood and all i wanna do is grind. i played an absurd number of hours on US site since posting that last graph (which was just .IT site hands, no .com). at home in the suburbs now so i don't have the handconvertor to post the graphs with. games were super good tho.

even when i ran like aids i felt playing online poker was really enjoyable and i never felt like quitting my session. like, i got one-outed for the first time in ages, allin on T84, in a 350bb pot, while i was talking to my sister about what to get for dinner and my facial expression didn't even change. kept grinding and didn't really tilt.

later in the night after taking a break i tilted a bunch tho as i couldn't win a single pot and ran esp bad at 2/4 (running bad at higher stakes than i usually play makes me tilt more ). when i'm not able to play lots of tables losing hand-after-hand is more frusturating. some of the hands from when i was tilting i can't even justify my thought process in a non-embarrassing way but w/e.

part of my motivation to grind is needing cash, as law school credits are mad expensive and my scholarship doesn't extend to the summer credits i will get. another part of it is boredom. when i have nothing to do i get anxious and playing poker helps me with anxiety. when i was super-busy with school, i wasn't anxious at all so it makes sense my desire to play went down.

it is weird to say but low-pressure situations make me feel much more anxious than high-pressure ones. when i am bored my mind starts racing and i get uncomfortable...so like sitting in an office with nothing to do is very anxiety-inducing to me. so is being stuck in traffic. but i feel like no anxiety when i'm doing a big project/playing a tough poker game/driving fast down interstate cause i have something to focus on. idk if anyone else experiences something similar but my dad and sister are the same as me wrt this.

so, i'm gonna try and play 40hrs online each of the next two weeks. euro sites in morning till games die there, US in afternoon-evening. now i am set up to multisite a few US-networks so that should increase my hourly a bunch. also going to try and go to gym 3x a week after finishing morning session. going to baltimore for a wedding second week of june and then staying at MD live for a week...my original plan was to spend the whole time before SK grinding live but i realized i'll probably make/save more playing online. factoring in gas/hotels/spewing money on booze this is probably true.

also back-to-back -4k days at 5/10 would really bum me out...online things don't get that bad. (sun)

lol spot. villain is reg 22/19 11% 3b 50% 4b vs. hero 3b 543 hands. normally i'd muck queens pre this deep (actually default is to flat 4bet) i think but i couldn't really considering the prior hand and we're both aggro. i was 5betting purely to induce. sucks i didnt even need to induce there lol.

                    started grinding online again monday:

breakeven for 4.6k hands but at least:

                    RB and promos FTW.

                    multi-siting is definitely +EV.

last tuesday i went to parx for live poker trip that lasted until sunday morning. live poker went well i ran like god in terms of people paying me off and folding in spots when my line makes no sense. i lost all my huge allins tho and all 3 pots where i had aces (though one i bet/folded flop).

first two nights of trip went well. i won like 2300 at parx 10/10 i kinda discussed all the interesting hands at length already with my friends. ummmm...:

hero image: mid-20s LAG, pro (was asked by 3 strangers if i'm going to vegas soon), playing maybe 40/30/12%
i raise AQo to 60 over 2 limps, btn calls, limpers call, flop KTTr checks through (pray for J one time)
turn J (BINKBINKBINK): bet 240, btn calls HU to river
riv T: check, button (wearing "i knocked out a pro!" FTP shirt) bets 280 hero instantly folds face up.

villain goes "wow you give me way too much credit kid" "well, i was putting you on quads..."
idk, it's a pretty trivial hand imo. maybe showing there is bad for image. sometimes showing helps reduce my level of tilt.

me and my friend mike were gonna go to a phillies game wednesday but it was raining really hard so we drove to borg. i have never been to citizens bank park though it looks really nice and mike has never been to a pro baseball game. o well.

i won a lil under 2k that night at 5/10. then i went to go play 2/5 bc borg BBJ is super low and i was waiting for my friend. i lose 600, (A9<77 on Q997x). then i got really ****ed up drinking jager and beer and eating bananas. i blew a lot at bbar and i thought i lost 1k at blackjack. thankfully it was only 300 as i had stuffed a bunch of hundreds in a back pocket.

turn Ac he leads 60 i raise to 200 he calls after thinking for ever
                    riv 4c he leads 200
                    my turn raise is fine
but yea like i wanted to raise to 700 on river lol
the guy had just made a huge fold too
                    and lost a big pot
it wouldve been pure liglhting money on fire

i think this was the deepest i've ever been at borg 5/10. somehow i was magically only in for 2k. like, usually i lose 1k in the first orbit or something. but whatever spun it up.

i lost 4k that morning but w/e. was still a successful day.

going to MD friday for cousin's wedding then 2 days maryland then 3 borg (going to play event #1 of summer open for some reason. i have been running good so i'll probably win).

i was chatting on the phone with my friend during this hand and he thought the other guy could be bluffing lolololol. idk snapfold lols.

grinding online has actually been really nice. i am set up well now to mass-table. and i have been doing good NYC stuff instead of just grinding school. went on a nice date this weekend, went to the park, went to yankees game, life is nice. when i just live in the casino i don't think it's that healthy and i don't interact with chicks enough.

i did play 60 hours of live poker last week despite being up a ton and the games not being super amazing. i also have put in like 16 hours since monday online...again despite the games not being super good. so i am happy with that. going to try and play 8 hours tomorrow to clear a bonus.

haha, will try to make it out there depending on OCI timing. taking intellectual property law this summer as well so gonna patent my PUA moves and sue anyone who tries copping my style (after i swoop their bird).

though some say i don't even know how to play poker so maybe i shouldn't even show my graph to girls

it's nice to bink when flush draw misses. turn betsizing is a mistake was playing too many tables. his call is pretty bad regardless.
