Have created PG&C threads in the past which I haven't stuck with, determined to continually update this, as I do feel there are great benefits to having somewhere to post updates/set goals etc. and generally hold yourself accountable.
I am a student, (returning into year one of university as I decided last year to transfer course) currently with no job/commitments, who recently moved to the city of my uni with friends. This means I have a lot of time to dedicate to poker over summer (and hopefully into term-time).
Currently returning from a short break in poker and aggressively shot-taking NL25z on PS with a 20BI BR.
Goals for the remainder of the month:
- Grind (4h+ 5+ days p/w), and generally get back into the swing of things
- Study (1h+ 5+ days p/w), specifically finish Educa's Elite Cash Game Mastery post-flop content (to solidify my understanding of post-flop concepts etc.) as well as the usual study; reviewing sessions/HHs, sweats etc.
Will keep the thread update with HHs, results, progress, goals etc. probs making a couple posts a week. Cheers & GL!
Spent most the week w house mates, unfortunately for the most part neglecting volume. Managed to study well, and feeling good on that front. I want to play a minimum of 20 hours in the coming week/remainder of the month, so thread updates should become more regular. Going live over at https://www.twitch.tv/dollarwill1 to stream 1-2 tables of 25z for those interested. (Focusing on 1-2 tables as I deepen my understanding of some new post flop concepts/strategies which aren't yet learned to the level of unconscious competence).
23.07.18:
Primarily 1-tabled today, and intend to continue spending a lot of my time on the felt 1-tabling for the remainder of the month. Hitting around 200 hands p/h per table @ 25z, so aiming for 800+ hands p/d until I become more comfortable with certain aspects of my game, at which point I'll transition into 2 tables. Awesome results on the day, and reasonably happy with my game, although I definitely noticed my (mental) stamina flagging towards the end of my 2nd session.
H1:Nice hand to start 1st sesh. vs an uncertified reg, w reads. (brag HH?)
H2:Misplay? IG I'm trying to deny equity (esp. w/out 9c), but I think V has too much value (Tx, OPs & some sets). Either way, the kind of high variance play were prob looking to avoid @ 20BI BR.
H3:Can prob simplify by range CBing (thoughts on our strategy otf)? Either way I think this hand is probably going to be a CB. AP, think we can go either way ott. Fairly std x/c down AP. Note: have a feeling I had a read V was aggro, perhaps thus the line.
Results: $10.25 pot ($0.46 rake)
Final Board: 6 6 2
SB mucked and lost (-$3.50 net)
Hero mucked A K and won $9.79 ($6.29 net)
MP mucked and lost (-$3.25 net)
H2:While I think in theory we enjoy a slight range advantage here (considering the majority of our 4b bluffs are suited hands), in practice, unsure a range CB is our best option, as it seems particularly unappealing with hands such as AKhh. That said, I definitely expect to gain some EV in simplifying, as monotone boards (esp. OOP) is a weak point of mine. Interested in getting some feedback on this one.
H3:Poor choice of hand? Elected to play it this way as I imagine we prob lack bluffs here, which isn't optimal given V is prob pretty capped/exploitable.
Preflop: Hero is BTN with Q Q
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.55, SB raises to $1.80, BB raises to $4.75, Hero raises to $25.25 and is all-in, SB folds, BB calls $20.50 and is all-in
Flop: ($52.30) 2 5 K (2 players, 2 are all-in) Turn: ($52.30) J (2 players, 2 are all-in) River: ($52.30) K (2 players, 2 are all-in)
Spoiler:
Results: $52.30 pot ($2 rake)
Final Board: 2 5 K J K
Hero showed Q Q and lost (-$25.25 net)
BB showed A A and won $50.30 ($25.05 net)
(As you may be realizing) Plan on being completely transparent with my game, highlighting potential mistakes made etc. (entire purpose of thread ig)
On an unrelated note, I'm interested to hear what music/media people typically grind too? Typically listen to some sort of jazz/chill hop mix, but enjoying a deep house / relaxing study music mix in these last days. Open to suggestions.
Starting tmo w a longer study session, before jumping into the grind. Hope to get in 1k+ hands as no gym.
Experienced just a little tilt creeping in to my game toward the end of my first session, primarily due to quality of my game/lack of concentration. Almost certainly unrelated to results/running under EV which is nice at least. As a result of this, slightly limited my second sessions volume, but found after a short break, and refocusing my mind I returned to a solid (mental) game.
h1: have to bet river fam
h2: could even shove otr
h3: why raise the turn?
H1 Yea, for the most part, agreed
H2 Think it's pretty difficult to get called by worse, & definitely possible we miss value from TPGK, weaker 2P etc. which I expect his range to be full of. If we want to play an AI otr, pretty sure we need to start driving the SPR lower ott w an OB.
H3 A few reasons. To avoid V playing the river well (i.e. x back any TP/worse 'value' he does this w when unimproved otr, and bet AI w stronger/improved), to avoid V realizing equity @ the cheap price he sets/charge his high equity semi-bluffs & worse value (TPs & any weaker 1P spews). Basically I expect him to make far more mistakes vs a turn raise than allowing him to play rivers IP w initiative.
23-27.07.18
Volume dropped off slightly yesterday, and completely today, bringing me a little short on the goal I set for the week. This was likely due to mental game slipping a little on Wed/Thurs. Goal (23-27.07.18): 4k hands, results: 3k hands. Happy w results.
Summarizing the week already as I don't imagine I'll be putting in m/any hands over the weekend, have more housemates joining so will be busy w irl stuff mostly.
Good luck man. I just started a similar challenge myself, starting at 25NL. How many BI are you starting with? Do you plan to take shots at 50nl at a certain point?
I will not be able to play between the 1st-13th Aug, as I am busy seeing family. When I return I want to be re-introducing 2 tabling as my std.
Goals for the month (upon return):
Continue with:
- Play 4h+ 5+ days p/w.
- Study 1h+ 5+ days p/w.
and:
- Play 20k+ hands (between the 13th-31st)
- Keep thread updated regularly
Although I'm not going to get to play for a little while, feeling super motivated to continue improving game.

Nice, glgl! Started w just a $500 BR. Not yet spent much time considering BRM/shot-taking 50, as 25 is still new to me. That said, prob somewhere around $1500 I will begin taking shots, but depends on confidence, results @ 25 etc.
Returning to poker after spending the entirety of August away from the tables. Spent more of the month away from home than originally expected, which threw off any plans I had for volume etc.
In the mean time I entered into a SS prop bet between myself & a friend. The bet is first to profit $1k playing either NL25 6-Max (my game of choice) or $25 HU SNGs (friends game of choice). Loser is to pay the winner 10% of their profits made between the start and completion of the challenge. This way, the payout depends entirely on the profitability of the loser in that time period. Prop bet start date was Sept 1st. Will keep the thread updated with any progress.
Played a little today, feeling quite rusty at first, but (at least close to) my normal thought process returning by the end of the session. No noteworthy hands.
I hope to spend September, my last month before term time begins more productively, will give thought to setting any goals etc. Back to updating thread regularly as of tmo. gl.
Moving away from more theory based study, as I feel I have a well established understanding of theoretical concepts etc. for my current stake, and moving into spending more study time w solvers, and understanding pool tendencies, hotspots & exploits, as well as hopefully a little time gaining a better understanding of DB analyses. I imagine this study to have a more significant impact on my WR over time also.
Also, posted a thread over in the theory sub forum on categorization/prioritization of strategically diff. boards according to solvers (shameless plug). Any input is helpful, cheers: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...-game-1722066/
17.09.18:
We back. Since starting PB played very few hands & BE.
Nice day, happy w game. Time to turn up volume.
Have some interesting hands worthy of posting, but 2+2 seems to be having problems converting HHs. Anyone got a solve for the hand conversion failed message?
18.09.18:
Happily back to 2-tabling, and hitting around 400 hands p/h. AIEV continuing to get away from me ($80 under AIEV in <2k hands). Mental game is in a good place.
HHs continuing to fail to convert from HM2, can't help but feel I'm being stupid on this one. HHs converting fine through other converters, so I'm inclined to believe it's a problem on 2+2's end.
Will probably post daily graphs w just net won, and then SD/AIEV lines on weekly/monthly graph updates, we'll see.
19.09.18:
Nice to hit 1k hands on the day, really enjoying playing atm.
Spending a little time each day pre session familiarizing myself w GTO+ and developing an understanding on how to most effectively/eficiently use it as a tool to assist study.
Busy day tmo w prep for start of term, hope to get in a reasonable no. hands.
17-23.09.18:
PG&C update game has been weak. Back to updating w HHs etc. tmo.
Hopefully can make some gain on that AIEV, and continue putting in reasonable daily volume into term time (graph represent 4 days playing on the week).
24.09.18:
Term started today. Hoping I can get in 2+ hours/1k+ hands p/d through the week, but playing poker through term will be a real change of pace, so interested to see how much volume I manage. Study will be put on the back burner for now while I focus my time on volume, & the PB. Plan on resuming more regular study once I profit $1k @ 25z & shot 50.
Obv no hands on the day, had/have a lot of work to do on module selection etc. also rocking a serious case of freshers flu.
unsurprisingly, little in the way of noteworthy hands, so ig I'll just post w/e hands I marked.
