Hahaha definitely feisty. But he's right, I did misapply the theory. I went back and looked it over, and found that my value frequency was too high (and thus so was my bluffing frequency). I was betting/raising hands for value that would have more EV as checks. So will go back and fix things. Glad I discovered that now rather than later. Shouldn't result in that much lost time though, as nothing needs to be changed with the software. But that would explain why my RFI ranges seemed a bit on the high side. Still have confidence that I will crush; just a small setback.

Why do you say that? It seems intuitive to me that we'd want to get as much value as we can with as many strong enough hands as we can. That means playing for stacks with as many value hands as we can. That seems wrong to you?

********************

Last Week:

[?] 26 hours of study [Unsure; did not do a good enough job tracking study hours]
[-] 9 hours of playing [5.5 hours]

Need to keep track of study hours better (and not be lazy). I'm ok with not meeting the playing hours goal, cause after finding out I was misapplying the math, it's more important to redo my frequencies before playing again.

********************

Goals for this week (Feb. 13-19):

[] Track study time accurately
[] 5 hours of playing

This week, it's more important to redo and to try and finish my main preflop stuff. So playing will take a back seat to that. So I will just aim for a minimum of 5 hours of playing this week, but will play more if I get the preflop stuff done sooner.

********************

NL2z to date:

Obviously, my frequencies were off, and I was playing way too loose as a result. So don't take that graph too seriously lol. My preflop ranges will be tighter after redoing the frequencies, and things should start turning around. Am confident I have a good grasp of the basic math now.

-------------------

I don't think I played this particularly well. Preflop, probably too loose of a 3bet. Flop and turn sizes could be a touch bigger (if I should even be betting the turn).

What if I told you everyone was so insanely imbalanced in certain lines that you could win at a huge rate based on simple pattern recognition?

Would you still be overbetting flops and turns for no good reason?

Hint, when you make a bet that someone folds too much to on an earlier street they often don't fold enough on later streets. Triple overbet bluffing is going to do very poorly in most positions on most runouts

You're very right, there are probably a lot of imbalances, and I fully intend to find those and exploit them. Eventually. My first focus is on finding a balanced strategy. Once I have that, I'll have a better understanding on what I can take advantage of and how to take advantage of it (with respect to my opponents' imbalances). But I want to build the foundation first, and gain a deeper understanding of what balanced frequencies look like.

I should also mention, these hands are not an example of my pseudo-GTO strategy, as I haven't done any postflop work, and my preflop work was incorrect. It's just me getting some hands in for now so I have something to post lol.

Hey bud, gl with your challenge.

Beating the micros is a lot easier then you think, from a brief read of your thread and hh's it looks like you're way overthinking and over complicating your strategy.

Your entire strategy should be based around the fact villains don't fold enough pre and don't fold enough post, it's boring abc poker but it works.

I could literally google "how to beat micro stakes poker" and pick anything there and if you followed it religiously, honestly, and didn't self sabotage you would beat 2nl.

The 810s is a perfect hand to illustrate my point, you 3b sqz then barrel off and still get called down by second pair for 100bbs.

Tighten your ranges, bluff 1 max 2 streets, bet huge when you have value, and only call when your bluff catcher beats some of villains value range vs strong lines.
Boom 2nlz beaten!

So you're just playing bad on purpose? Or is it a case of having such bad fundamentals that you can't beat the lowest stakes?

You literally have no idea what you are doing and ignore all the helpful advice from people explaining to you what you need to do. Instead you consistently try to create some solution to poker whilst losing.

Thanks Mat. And MMSS, not playing bad on purpose lol. Just trying to estimate what I think a GTO-ish solution might look like, without actually knowing too much about what it looks like. So, not doing the best job. But the more I work on the strategy, the closer I'll get.

I think I've shown before I'm able to at least beat nl2. But, I'm using it as a training grounds, in a way. Once I've developed the strategy to a degree I'm satisfied with, I'll jump up to nl10 for a shot.

I think it is imprudent to call 3bets and 4bet when you have no info on villains. Try playing straight forward for half an hour, then you have something to work with.

If you have to call OTF in H1, I think you should size up on the DJJJJIN turn card - put pressure on weaker pairs, it's better for you range, set up for a river jam if you hit.

H2 is a major head ****. I like it until the turn. Check back river as played cos you beat a myriad of bust draws.

3 + 4 don't 4bet unknowns with junk.

Look at someone who does incredibly well at these stakes and games such as Nuxx (he has a 2+2 thread) and maybe have a look at how he is playing and whether you agree or disagree with his actions and try to figure out why what he is doing is good.

Getting into 3b/4b spots with meh hands when the majority of the pool isn't 3betting enough is leading to you making big mistakes. Getting into later streets with a heavy range disadvantage is a recipe for disaster especially with your style of overcalling on the turn and river thinking you're balanced.

H1 I think your turn sizing makes no sense and funnily enough is a spot where your strat of betting big to GII by the river is probably verygood. Rest of the hand is fine I suppose. I imagine the difference between calling and folding OTF isn't all that big but I'd probably fold. Could very well be a mistake on my part.

H2 A9o is a fold in MP. Rest just makes no sense.

H3 I have no idea why you think this is a good hand to 4b. People aren't 3betting MP opens light in the pool and it makes a perfectly good candidate to call with. I think given how strong ranges are here checking the flop makes more sense.

H4 I see no reason to 4bet here. Stabbing the turn like this is probably +EV in a vacuum but even pretty bad 10nlz regs will soon adjust to this pretty quick.

dairuss, to be fair, I don't think there's any bad way to play that turn card lol. And hand 2, I did check the river. I called down because his line seemed FOS, and I'm probably seeing a lot more bluffs than value hands.

MMSS, thanks for your thoughts as well. As both of you suggested, I'm toning down the 4bet bluffs on unknowns now.

New hands from today:

-----------------

Another time where his line seemed so FOS, so I called down. I think I'm probably seeing more bluffs in this spot usually, but I think I'll just tone down the calling and get my value elsewhere.

Things are going better than I ever could have anticipated. Will post the weekly update in the next day or two, but I'm running very hot right now. BR is currently around $300, which means I could be close to building shots at nl25. But will probably just focus for the next couple weeks at grinding hands at nl10, just to see how well I'm doing once I've cooled down, with a decent-sized sample.

I'm not even trying to play all that GTO right now. I've bumped it up to 3 zoom tables now, and am just trying to play good poker (whether or not I actually am is still up for debate lol). Work on my strategy will be slower for now while I'm at the micros, as maybe I overestimated how much I need it at these stakes. When I hit a downswing, I might take some more time to work on it more seriously.

Weekly update time. BR is at $318.48. Things are going well so far, and I hope I can keep it up. The second job is happening now, so I will be a bit busier. Won't be working 7 days/week like I was planning to before. Decided to cut down to 4 days in my current job, and 2 days in the new job.

Graphs so far (from the start):

Going forward, I think if I can manage 25 hours a week while I'm working 6 days, I'll be satisfied. And then sprinkle a few hours of study mixed in.

Thanks KetoMind!

In the middle of a bit of a rough stretch now. Been times where I haven't been playing my A-game, but even then I wasn't playing too terrible. And I may be over-exaggerating the rough stretch bit lol. But I do want to have some idea of whether or not I'm really a winner at nl10 before taking shots at nl25. Cause if that doubt is in the back of my mind when things don't go well at nl25, then it will just compound my problems. So I'm thinking to just grind out 100k hands at nl10z and see where I'm at. Should take less than a month.

100k hands in less than a month is a lot of volume. No idea why you think you need to show that you're a winning 10nlz player before moving up when you're a losing 2nlz player.
