Just logged on to Pokerstars to get my free chest before it expired tomorrow. Got a free $15. Not too shabby. Then deposited $100, and got another free $20. So BR is now at $170. Will probably start at nl2z just to get back into the thick of things, and then (depending on how aggressive I want my BRM to be) might even just jump to nl10z. Maybe take a 4 or 5 BI shot at nl10. But won't do that until I've studied flop play first. Currently getting my preflop ranges done. Once preflop is good, I'll start playing a bit of nl2z.

Ok, this is the BRM I'll try to follow in this thread. I want to establish myself at nl50 as quickly as possible, cause that's probably the point where I can safely cut down my hours a little bit at work (whether I choose to cut my hours down at that point or not is still undecided though). Once I reach nl50, I will spend some time grinding there until I have enough BIs at nl50 to not worry about going broke if I never moved down stakes. At that point, I can start thinking about taking shots at higher.

NL2: Move up at $65
NL5: Move down at $40, Move up at $140
NL10: Move down at $90, Move up at $365
NL25: Move down at $240, Move up at $990
NL50: Move down at $740, Move up at ???

Will spend a bit more time studying before playing, and will just start right at nl10 when I do. The $170 BR will give me 8 BIs to work with at nl10. I feel good things are coming!

Thanks BornToRun, I was beginning to think I'd have nothing but haters here lol. I was trying to get more of my strategy done first, but maybe I'll just start playing a little. Something like 25% play / 75% study, for now. Working on the software took waaaaaay longer than I anticipated.

Not sure in what way you think I'm trying to reinvent the wheel? And not sure why you think I'm not working on my game, since that's all I've been doing for the last month lol. I'm just trying to build a solid strategy based on the math behind the game. Not trying to do anything new or different, unless the math tells me to. And if that's the case, then trying to find out where I went wrong.

Thinking I'll try to put in a short session tomorrow just so I can start this thing going!

Played just a short session before work today. Basically playing around lol. All I have at the moment are my RFI ranges, so anything other than that I was just improvising. Think I was 4betting too light, possibly 3betting too light as well. Looked like I was only cbetting around 25% as well, so definitely wasn't anywhere near my eventual ~50%. So long story short, need to solidify more of my ranges. But will keep trying to get some playing time in. Will aim for 30 hours study and 10 hours playing for the next week, while I try and finish up my preflop ranges.

This hand happened right near the start. Probably helped me to play a bit too loose for the rest of the session.

Why would 50nl be your target? It's both ridiculously achievable given your current game and at the same time low enough to be a sad goal. When did the poker dream become grinding out minimum wage playing 50nl?

H2 - no you literally don't need any bluffs and your overbet on the flop seems pointless.

H3 - 96o is a pretty easy fold in the SB (and everywhere). Calling down three streets like this is awful

H5 - You can probably take a b/b/b line here and be printing money just fold at any point you get raised.

You are going to be lighting money on fire playing 2nl by bluffing like you are and making ridiculously light call downs especially on later streets.

Thanks. And regards to NL50 being my target, it's not my end goal. It's just the place where I want to "set up camp". That's probably the minimum viable stakes to allow me some flexibility in work hours. So I want to make sure I'm in a comfortable position there before I start trying to keep going further.

Anyway, I don't think I played terrible overall yesterday. But today's another matter. Without a thought out strategy to go by (except for RFI ranges), I was lost and splashed around too much. Parts of my game I felt were solid, but it's clear I still have work to do lol. I kind of treated these last two days as kind of a fun bit of practice before getting into it again, since the new week starts tomorrow. And with the new week comes the weekly goals again.

But first, the graph (nl2z) of these last couple days (I know I'm gonna hear it from the trolls now lol). Will come back stronger this week.

No one is trolling you.

You are bad at poker and your attitude towards the game is always that you've solved poker and will in no time be crushing. Yet you lose and lose and then lose. You aren't special you haven't solved poker. You're more than capable of beating 2nlz if you approach it from the tried and tested old ways of beating it but you seem to refuse to do any work that actually benefits your game.

Spending ages coming up with opening ranges when basically any opening ranges you find on the internet will be a perfectly fine starting point is a huge waste of time and effort.

I don't think I've said I'll be crushing in no time. I thought I said there's still a lot of work ahead. And to be clear, I don't think I've solved poker. What I believe is that I've finally discovered how to think about the game from a top-down level in order to build a balanced, GTO-like (or GTO-lite) strategy.

I haven't spent ages coming up with opening ranges. Most of my time has been working on the software, which has nothing to do with coming up with opening ranges. I spent a little time on preflop frequencies, and will continue to do so this week. Working on 4bet frequencies, and then will do 3/5-bets.

And yeah, I could use open-ranges found on the internet, but that doesn't help with postflop. My preflop frequencies are designed around continued play postflop, so they work as one cohesive unit. The reason you haven't seen much progress so far is because most of my work has been spent to allow my future work to flow much smoother.

6b is a much better poker player than you so I'm not sure it's trolling exactly. He at least probably beats 2nl and very weak live games.

What makes you think that you have created a GTO-lite? What makes you think you even understand the basic concepts of poker?

Your GTO-lite almost certainly makes awful losing assumptions and vast simplifications. You do not realise how clueless you come across and seem to ignore the wealth of evidence you have provided that

A - You are a losing poker player
B - You do not understand the basics of poker
C - You consistently go through this exact same process

I would very much benefit from you moving up and playing in the games I do yet I am advising you not to. This isn't trolling it's trying to convince someone who clearly isn't in a situation with lots of spare cash to not waste their money even if that means I don't get my cut of it on the tables.
The next Zoom prodigy: Journey begins 2019 Quote
02-07-2019 , 04:32 PM
Lol, it's trolling and we both know it. He wasn't being genuinely serious about me getting coaching from 6bet me.

My strategy is based on assumptions, but better assumptions than I've used in the past. My main 3 assumptions are:

1) Indifference is a thing, but not always with your entire range.
2) Bluffs on later streets are considered value bets on the current street.
3) We want to figure out (and use) bet sizings that will get us all-in on the river in such a way that will allow us to play the most hands on the current street. (This is why I use a 2bb open-raise size preflop.)

And yeah, I am simplifying things. For now, I'm just using one bet-size in any particular situation (although may possibly split my betting range on the river). I'm trying to play a mixed strategy as little as possible. None of this raising x%, calling y%, and folding z%, if I can help it.

I know I've done a lot of losing stuff over the years; I've posted the links in the first post as a reminder. I don't blame you for thinking that this time will be no different. I guess you'll just have to wait and see lol.

There's also a huge difference in my "mental" approach. This time, I don't necessarily care if I fail. I know it's my last shot, and if it doesn't work, that's fine. I'll go back to my other passion of developing video games (which I'll do at some point in the future anyway, regardless of how poker turns out). I can afford to lose the money I have on Stars.

But having said that, I'm still very competitive, and I will be trying hard to make this a success. It would make things so much "easier" if I find success at poker.
