So right now I'm pretty much homeless, can't pay the rest of my rent for this year bc I lost my cushy 40k/yr sales job a few weeks back due to some F'd up politics at work. Anyways I've given it a lot of thought, and I've decided to take my 2k roll and make the move from the northwest to los Angeles California altogether. My current plan is:abandon Seattle apartment (check), $h!T on boss's car (check), Fly down to la today, stay with a friend for 2 weeks at motel. during this time I'll be playing at the Commerce Casino, grind up a healthy bank roll. Obviously run good. I’ve played there a handful of times before, and pretty much have never had a losing session. A little about me: sample size of 1000 hrs I'm a winning player at the Live 1-3 and 3-5 stakes.

Goals for the trip/year:
Grind up a healthy bankroll from 2k to 10k
Get a shack apartment/studio
Jump to the next level of live poker, beat it
Run my roll up to a healthy(r) 5 figures
Don’t get killed by thugs in LA


I'd appreciate any advice for for commerce, or even general advice for grinding for a living

This is quite true. The interesting thing about commerce L.A.poker is they have weird buy in structures. If you play the 1/2 NL, the minimum you can buy in is $40, the max you can but in for is $40. So at the lowest level, I have 50 buy ins. I'm gonna straight jump into the 2/3 NL, which is a mandatory $100 buy. Risk of ruin pretty low.

landed at LAX about 2 hours ago. Ate at cole's original french dip sandwich place, apparently they invented both the french dip and coleslaw (cole's slaw). pretty F'n amazing sandwich btw. only downside was that this dining establishment is in old downtown, right next to bum/tent city. super sketch, and i hope i dont end up there.

Was gonna jump straight into the 2/3 game tonight, but I'm burnt out from hanging out at the airport all day. Checked in at the motel 8. Found a 2 inch pube on the tv remote, pretty grossed out already. On the bright side, they seem to have a pretty decent pool and hot tub outside.

First Midday report: doing pretty well so far, switching between the 40 game and the 100 NL game. Up about 180$. I figure I need to make at least 75$/day to break even for lodging and food for the day. There is so much horrendous play I've seen here so far. I'm thinking about taking a shot at the 3/5 $500 buy in game.

Sales is a rough gig. You get a fat check randomly but you get hit with expenses and even if you **** on your bosses car you will still get **** on by taxes, better salesman, people with better jobs, life in general. I admire your **** it attitude. Very very cool. Im not a pro or even a winning player but I will give you some advice anyway.

Negativity is your worst enemy. Easier said than done but ignore the haters like a cooler hand . You got a roll to grind up and only 2k to your name. That is a lot of pressure man your essentially all in w top pair against over cards and a nut flush draw.Your going to have to fade some ****. Make it happen. I want to read this thread and expect a lot more pages to be written.

Take this FWIW from someone who has grinded 1/2 NL before full time. Get at least a part time job to supplement your poker roll. Low stakes poker in LA is not very profitable because of the insanely shallow buy ins and the ridiculous rake. Please get a part time job.
