Challenge Day: 91&92&93

@Liquidd
I think it's approximately 15BI in 10k hands.

@Lumpizaver
Haha, you might be right!

OK guys,

Time for an update I guess.But first of all TY guys for the complements.
All 3 days I can't really say that I played good but I can't also say that I played horribly. Sort of like my B game taking over the tables. I mean there were so rough phases where I made horrible C, especially on Tuesday when I lost 4-5BI in like 15 minutes or so. I have won the biggest pot in my life(640€) but also lost the biggest one in the challenge (400€) but still didn't manage to show some positive results.

But as always when there is a bad run/play you learn and you get more aware of your leaks/areas to improve. I just went over my marked hands and there are some of them that normally I would never mark because as you know this small pots can hurt more when not doing so good so I become sort of more detailed/curious/eager for knowledge in my analyses. That's why I always say that having a run bad can't be always that bad . Also I think I was running good for a while so I guess it's time as well to run a bit worse. So probably I will have to kick my ass and work harder. Anyway here are some picks:

So this little over 10BI loss put the challenge a little bit backwards, but there is not much to say then work harder and grind harder. GL!

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 10792.81$(LAST UPDATE) - 1440.10$(WINNINGS 2 DAYS) = 9 352.71$/100 000$

Challenge Day: 94&95&96

So guys,

I don't know where to start. I'm a little bit lost since I just finished a almost 15h grind(but there was 1,5h of breaks in between). But yeah, let's start from the Thursday and Friday.

Basically I hit on both days stop loss. And on each day I played better and better so it was really annoying to always hit stop loss. One of them I went through the hands with Gordon and we just found one donkey C OTR. Especially Friday I played so good that I was proud on myself that I pulled myself together and brought up my best game. But sometimes it's not enough.

And then yesterday. So many recreational players around(I was 8-10 tabling mostly, instead of my usual 6) myself running like Jesus(felt even a little bit embarrassed later :P). I guess I flopped quads 3-4 times, nut hands all over the place, no matter if a screw preflop, postflop I know I will hit something. And all the recreational players run into me. Funny part one reg got even tilted because of my sick run.
Anyway in the early morning hours I thought I might quit the last 3 tables but I noticed I'm the only reg on each table so the session went longer. I had a hard time leaving them but after almost 14h of playing I think I deserved a break although I had to force myself.

And in the end Hans how much you won on this sick day? Guess instead of written numbers, pics are always better:

I think it's always nice to have this days/moments in terms of BR but I can't really say that I proud on how I played. Poker showed me to different faces in 2 days. One day I'm playing the best I could with very few mistakes and hit stop loss and on the next on I play some B game(although through the length and amount of tables) and I make my biggest daily score. I think I should work more on my game. The 2 stop loss days definitely helped and I spent some quality time doing some off table work(although I don't like doing it on that day because I'm too tilted) but I see just so so many areas that I have to work on(although I'm good against vB vs fish), no matter how much sunshine such a win could possibly bring. Confidence is still the same and for that to rise I would need better played hands rather then sick winning days. Jeez, Hans, what are you talking here, go to bed! :P

Hi everyone,

So how to describe the last 3 days? Well I guess the perfect word is painful. But let's start from Sunday that currently became my free day. On Monday I grinded my afternoon session as always but when I came back from sports to start night session I felt a little bit sick and not very clear in my head. So I just dropped to the NL50 tables opened 8 tables and entered my well know NO 6max BS autopilot mode so I managed to still put in the hours.

Anyway woke up next day and it was one of those mornings when you realize right away:''****, I'm ill!''. And so temperature was rising during the day but I still try to fire a 90 min session. It went good so I went to relax again and got back in the evening but I pretty quickly noticed that I'm not really able to play so I called it a day and went straight to bed.

Yesterday I felt weak but still I had enough strength to hold on for a 8h session. Again NL50, No 6max BS autopilot mode and made it through. And right after bed and sleep was my next station.

Anyway today I feel sort of better and I might even do some coaching. I really hope that I will be able to put 2 long session because I won't be able to play Saturday so kinda don't wanna get short on hours and lose a whole week because of sickness/RL commitments. Anyway this are the results for the last 3 days:

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 11 538.95$(LAST UPDATE) + 1 039.46$(WINNINGS 3 DAYS) = 12 578.41$/100 000$

Cya on Saturday!

@winkelstraat
TX mate! I really hope in the end I will stand to my name! GL to you as well!

So guys,

How are we doing? I passed the 100 day mark, yuuuppii
Anyway 2 very interesting days although the first one being less interesting. The second one was more interesting because I hit stop loss and after going through the hands and discussing with Gordon he gave me green light(because I played very good) for another 5BI which I luckily was able to recover from the stop loss and still in the end managed to finish the day in the green. But I wasn't really happy with my game. Wasn't playing that good but the cards where falling my way as they are already doing for a week so I won't really complain. Still the fact that I didn't play well in the second part of the session is kinda making me think although I'm now way to exhausted to think about it now. Also there is the news that I bumhunted some NL200(I mean 3 fishes 2 regs) but won about 20BB before leaving the table. I hope Gordon isn't gonna kill me . Anyway here are the results:

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 12 578.41$(LAST UPDATE) + 1 640.89$(WINNINGS 2 DAYS) = 14 219.30$/100 000$

So I leaving for trip over the weekend so probably next update will be somewhere mid next week. Cya!

Stake Report: NL50

I will try to make this as short as possible. Generally speaking this was the limit I spent most of my time during the challenge. But as you can see there is only one bad graph/format that I wasn't able to beat and that was NL50 Speed € tables. When switching to normal tables and working more on my game I achieved a very nice WR(+8bb/100).

To not make it any longer here are the pics:

And as always I prepared a video for those of you who would like to watch it.

Ola people,

How it going? Guess you can guys already imagine that I had some positive days
Well, yeah I'm running extremely hot on one site were I run so hot as unknown that people start to 5B shove 55 etc. I simply catch all this spewtards. That's a nice fact when playing on multiple sites you kinda feel more on which site you run good/bad. Anyway here is what I came up with:

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 14 219.30$(LAST UPDATE) + 2 053.06$(WINNINGS 2 DAYS) + 278.57(FDB from one site) = 16 550.93$/100 000$

Anyway that's it for today. TTYA guys in the next days.

@Everest17 & Avizura
TX guys! I really hope I will keep on rolling and make it an awesome month.

So guys,

Time for an update for the 3 working days that I had in the meantime sine in the meantime I had one day off. Anyway 2 days were stop loss days with one being reviewed with Gordon. It's also kinda of nice when you hit stop loss and you have someone more experienced telling you that it's OK and that there wasn't any huge mistake. Simply bad run that was actually very well predictable after having a very hot streak.

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 16 550.93$(LAST UPDATE) - 603.74$(WINNINGS 3 DAYS) + 351.82(FDB + promo = 255€) = 16 299.01$/100 000$

@happyeaster
No I don't play anymore on iPoker and by now I play on multiple networks. If it's worth or not depends how you threat your current poker journey/goals. It' something extremely individual so I guess hard for me to give a general answer.

Hey guys,

I guess time for an update. So all 3 days went OKish and I close to reach my 50BI on NL100(miss 4BI). I had already today but later variance caught up with me and so I still miss this 4 to give myself a 5BI shot at NL200. It's definitely gonna be interesting to see I will get everything together and by the end of the week hit the NL200 tables. Feel way more comfortable at the NL100 tables and I really feel that I improved. Anyway this is how it went:

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 16 299.01$(LAST UPDATE) + 1405.04$(WINNINGS 3 DAYS) = 17 704.05$/100 000$

So what more to say?Hmm....I can already once due to the demands for a video I will be soon releasing one with Gordon so let's hope it becomes and interesting one.

Also does anyone of you guys know a calculator for FE(something like how often a R/shove has to work given the EQ that we have against his C range)? Would be a CREV a solution for that? Any advice appreciated.

Anyway now off to bed after todays 12h grind. CYA!

@Angeblich
Against unknown yes! Whenever I face unknown(no sign of being a fish) I use my NO BS approach mostly. Well board texture change sizing and some times the line but I try as much as possible because it's really good until you understand who are you dealing with. It avoids so much leveling and makes life easier.

Hey guys,

So this is gonna be a longer post. I mean the post title is already kinda of too long and I don't like that I didn't update for 5 days but I waited to to come up with the final results for the month. Anyway I didn't hit the the NL200 tables but I managed to win now 50BI on NL100 so tomorrow I definitely hit the NL200 tables. But let's start day by day.

Basically Thursday was planned to be the day when I will win the 4BI and move up on Friday to NL200. Guess what Hans, didn't poker though you multiple times that you can make exact plans? So instead of actually winning the 4BI I ended up losing 9,5BI. I reviewed the hands with Gordon and he seemed to be content with my play so and myself as well. So funny again play good= run bad, play bad = run good. Hahaha, that's the way variance threats me nowadays.

Friday had to be a grinding day but was cancelled and I had to take my day off due to some RL things. The other 3 days were simple grinding days with one goal finishing this month with 50BI overall on NL100. Anyway here are the facts:

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 17 704.05$(LAST UPDATE) + 668.7$(WINNINGS 5 DAYS) = 18 372.75$/100 000$

I wanted to say 1 last thing. I love the fact that in this cooperation that whenever I feel that I improved which is always a nice fact, he comes off showing in just a couple of moments how much more there is to learn. We had today a live session and he understood in basically couple of minutes my opponents(and boom from red into green without running hot) and made my day simply by making me thinking how much more room for improving there is. And whenever I think about it I get excited.

March Report

I think there has to be something said about this month, right?
My biggest winning month in my career in terms of poker winnings. Overall combined with some FDB installments + some mini promos I almost had a 8k$ winning month. I guess If would exchange points on some sites I guess with RB I would be even close to 10k$ but I think in terms of profitability so I guess will wait for one of the upcoming months to be a 10k$ one.
I have improved a decent amount and I feel it which is always nice and really looking forward to hit the NL200 tables in April. let's not forget that I had my biggest winning day . Definitely a month to remember. Anyway enough of the talk and let's see the results:

That's enough for today. I hope I will be soon back with the promised video. GL and CYA!

First Summary Of the Challenge

@Eu.Era
TX! Yeah I try to play nowadays a more exploitative strategy but against unknowns it's mostly No 6max BS style (although it sometimes depends on the board texture).

So guys,
Today I decided to kind of publicly reply to some questions that I got frequently like ‘’How is it to work with Gordon?’’, ‘’ How did you get into coachings with him?’’ etc. I think since now almost 5 months/over 100 working days passed I thought it’s kind of a good opportunity to write about this questions and some of my overall thoughts about the current situation. So I guess let’s start.

Pre Gordon + The Deal

Well I joined BPC a little bit over a year ago because I bought the ‘’Double Your 6max Winrate’’. I wasn’t a fan of his way of advertising but since I’m a person that cares only about results I bought it. My results didn’t double but they definitely grew for at least 50%. I bought more of his stuff and I really saw that the man stands behind what he is advertising. He said I will improve and I did. So it was a fair deal.

Anyway while I was doing on my own in my first year as trying to treat poker seriously I had some solid results. I mean I was earning a double average salary in my country, I had my first 10k$ month while playing NL20 & NL50(everything tracked in my blog on BPC). But I was never really, really happy with my game. I mean I can live off from poker but I didn’t really improve in the way I imagined. On one side I was happy where I got given that before treating seriously I was working night shifts to pay my studies & lifestyle, took classes in the morning and a little bit time that was left afternoon I was spending learning this game. This grinding for a living NL50/ a bit of NL100 wasn’t really making me happy. I was missing something in order to really enjoy my job.

Then the famous Pokerstrategy Video Series ‘’Champion Stand Up One More Time Then The Rest’’ came out and in the last episode (in the last 10 min I think) he announced he would take on some students. I applied and got selected and I had a chance to get this interview with him. He explained the deal very well, everything seemed pretty transparent as always from him and definitely pretty fair from his side. He explained pretty decently(in quite simply words actually ) what he is expecting from me and what I can expect from him. Given that my big desire was to go for SNE 2014 we decided to talk again in November and I should think about it.

He said right away what this coaching for profits deal for myself is and how I should treat and this one key word was stuck in my mind, EDUCATION/INVESTMENT. Now Hans, you just finished your bachelor, you invested in poker and you can live off a bit, are you gonna invest in yourself again? I debated for a while but in the end I decided to take the offer.

The Challenge

Well, I thought ‘’Oh boy, now I’m going to learn to triple barrel bluff, XR OTR by turning a made hand into bluff, overB, mB/3B OTR’’ and all this crazy fancy **** that makes poker so amazing when you watch from low stakes to higher stakes. But guess what he instead came to me with the ‘’No 6max BS Book’’ and said ‘’Hans, learn this stuff!’’. I thought myself at that point ‘’Are you ****ing kidding me? Is this for real? I played way higher and now you want me to stick to some charts and some default lines for beginners?’’. I still remember that evening when I sent him a crying Email and accusing him that my NL10 shot failed because of the book. And guess what, it wasn’t because of the book. So instead of actually learning to balance, have a linear C range, when to overB etc. I got to the point where he is warning me that he will end the deal if I don’t stick to a beginner book. WTF? I was so pissed that since then I sticked almost completely to the book besides some tips that I had to implement (SB OmR 100% default, never F2m3B(2x)).
Cooperation was developing in the right way and we found/understand more each other. I got decent results moving through stakes but still this wanna be genius poker player that sits insides me was always wondering when we are going to make crazy ****, own people etc. And guess what once again he said: ‘’You don’t have to bluff at all in order to beat micros!’’. Again crazy **** postponed. It felt so 'Ahhh, OK!''

Then we got on NL50 and I thought now is finally the time where the crazy ****/cool things will be learned. Now I’m going to play this cool LAG tricky type of style that and I will own people. Once again I got it all wrong and we just got more detailed into board texture, hand planning and some exploitative plays but still using the fundamentals that I learned while playing the micros. And the results for November and December were really good by using a simplistic strategy. I mean the results below prove it in some way:

Everything seemed so beautiful while going into 2014. It was both poker and life wise and I was surrounded with this overwhelming nice feeling when things go awesome in life.

Then January hit. The most brutal thing I ever experienced in my career. Not only I wasn’t able to win anymore at NL50 but I didn’t win either on NL20. Whatever I played it was always the same, lose, lose, and lose. It also started effecting my private life and I had huge problems mentally differentiating private from working life since both life are taking place in the same spaces. It was in simply all sorts of way a really depressing month which resulted with such a graph:

One thing that I always mention is that I don’t hate downswings. They are frustrating since in my eyes they screw my plans but on the other hand I love them because they challenge me. I become kinda of obsessed more with the game and I would say I'm more motivated then ever to learn and beat the game then when running hot. I also started doing some recreational kickbox and I still remember the night when I got like 6-7 bad beats/coolers in like 30min and I wasn’t able even to get angry because of the pain that I felt after the kickboxing training. Nowadays I don’t get to upset about this kinda of stuff but rather about my own mistakes/bad play. This obsessiveness of mine about turning this around together with physical activities that sort of helped me getting rid of my negative emotions resulted with such a graph:

I guess over 13k$ only from winnings can’t be that kinda of bad result for 2 months and that’s without RB/bonuses etc. I already stated that I feel I'm improving and looking forward to steadily learn how to beat NL200. I even think about more cutting a bit of grinding hours just to work more on my game. I'm really kinda of hungry for knowledge.

I had a tough time believing certain things that he explained me in each timeframe of our cooperation but this whole education the more I look in retrospect the more I see how it’s actually quite well planned. I have a very good default game/fundamentals that I can rely on as we move up we get more advanced. It’s like keeping things simple as possible and improving/getting advanced as needed. It’s like he has a vision how he wants to do it and mentors/guides me on the way to the ultimate goal , making 100k$.

Present and Future

So what did I learn during this time frame? I got a lot of discipline, I got quite decent work ethic, I understand way more why and where I’m making money, what are my leaks and I feel like I’m improving. This last thing is exactly what I needed.

I also try to get rid of all this BS that I had in my head. Like I always wanted to be the cool LAG owning everybody but today it I don’t care LAG/TAG/whatever I just care about what brings me more money and how to increase my hourly. I really hope I will be able one day to mass table mid stakes.

All in all in the end , I have to admit that I gave away part of my social life to this project but when I look at the past 5 months and look forward I definitely see that my decision was correct. He is harsh and tough from time to time but in the end of the day he brings the results that are needed and I guess that’s something that most people, myself included, really care. I actually I like getting called every second day ‘’You ****ing donkey’’ if at the end of the month I can enjoy my 10k$.

As promised, the video is here:

Hi,

This will be I guess a shorter update. I played only on 2 days because of some other obligations that I had to do. I played mostly NL200 and a little bit of NL300 and I have to say especially on the first day I hit a very nice upswing(didn't play good). I was running really hot so as an unknown when you consistently get good cards people easily start spewing off a bit so I had a quite decent day that looks like this:

TOTAL CHALLENGE: 18 372.75$(LAST UPDATE) + 3 769.34$(WINNINGS 2 DAYS) + 61.66$(FDB = 45€) = 22 203.75$ / 100 000$

So that's it for today. Let's hope the good run continues and hopefully it will be a nice weekend. GL!

Excellent work man. I am wondering how you will be doing on 200nl. Imo the gap between 100nl and 200nl is the biggest (it used to be between 200nl and 400nl few years ago) and it's gonna be way harder for you to show a profit, unless you play on a really fishy Italian site
However, your 100nl results look quite solid after 90-100k hands (4 EV bb/100 is a decent result) and with the consistent work on your game and mindset, you are definitely capable of showing a profit on 200nl.

Good luck on 200nl Hans, I will keep track of your progress.
