Was down near the local casino yesterday so played ~5 hours of 3/5 and won $630.
Action was pretty good, lot of pots getting raised to $30-40 pre with 2+ callers.

I saved basically two stacks by people slowplaying pocket monsters pre...first AA limp/calls from EP vs. my KK...I iso'd and bet flop on 763, 5x9x checks thru. Might consider going for value ott or otr against some players but V MAWG didn't look too drool-y. He was complaining about the fact that they were showing female high school volleyball on the TV for a casino audience (how indecent for the girls!). #livereads #nit

Then QQ vs. KK BVB...declined the chop and opened to 20...V calls and one bet goes in otr on ATT38.

Thanks guys, appreciate that!

Do you always play or selectively chop in the blinds?
at my wits end on long downswing Quote
09-13-2018 , 02:48 PM
Yes, how does that chop get negotiated? Are you in SB? So you check your cards and then decline to offer a chop? Then BB with KK proceeds to slowplay?

Or, do both players look at their hand, and then decide if either wants to play?

Were you in the BB with QQ and the SB offered to chop holding KK?

I thought chops in the blinds are just a courtesy to avoid rake and guarantee both players an EV of zero, regardless of the cards dealt? Or, do chops only happen when both players have non-premium hands?

Could possibly be considered a dick move, idk how these things work in the dynamics of live poker.

I just raised first in with the QQ without saying anything, so I just meant to say I declined to offer the chop or ask him if he wanted to chop.

I honestly have always been confused by chops.
Like the concept of chopping without having looked at your cards makes complete sense, but in most of the early live games I played in, people would look at their cards, then negotiate a chop (a lot of times agreeing to it even if they had a good hand). So in past I've always just played my hand to avoid confusion about it.

Thanks man.
And yeah true, pretty much all the guys that have reached high have struggled with tilt/poor BRM etc., and spent years getting there.
You gotta wonder though if it's even possible to "make it" from the ground up anymore, given how much ppl are studying these days.

Eh and struggles continue.
Dropped a bunch at the casino last Friday, played a solid C game subtly tilted over the weekend but trying to get in volume, and then my play quality has improved a lot this week, but results haven't.

I think on the KK hand you probably can get away on the river.

With AA, I don't mind the river call, because I think you'll see JT, QT, and QJ enough of the time and you block the nut flush draw which is a significant part of opponent's value range.

I like how the 76s hand was played.

With the QJs hand I like giving up on the river. I think it is easy to overbluff in that spot especially with the number of missed draws you can have there and not too many value hands. I see that you block KQ and KJ, but I think a missed str8 draw without the flush is a better bluff candidate there and even then maybe not.

I like the way you played QTs.

With KTs I like check/raise all-in better. That way you aren't priced into a call that you aren't too happy about. You also will pick up some money, if a player was trying to steal the pot. If you see a free turn it isn't the end of the world either.

yeah cool, small group of study guys had same consensus on those two hands

BTW I realized the graph I posted is kind of misleading as to recent results, bc it includes a super failed shot at 500z, so here is just 200nl so far this year:

Actually that's true, the less our brain has to work, the better. It looks like a simple task of trying to find where you are in the table won't increase your work load by much, but if this is done over a lot of hands, it can cause some serious decrease of performance in the end of long session. Same goes for using 2-color decks, which not only increases your work load but adds the extra risk of misplaying your hand thinking you have the flush.

Also it's good to play without images on stars and it's good to have a chair that fits you well to let your blood flow through your hands(if it isn't flowing well it could lead to inkuries). Breaks every 50 mins are good too, not only to make you more focused but also in reducing tilt.

You can also turn off the "reveal next card" in the options menu. Helps shave off a few seconds per hand which will definitely add up over time.

Saw the video, here are my suggestions:

1- You're opening 3x from all positions and 2x from BTN, it should be the opposite: you should RFI for a smaller sizing from UTG/MP/CO, because with a bigger sizing you let people have more profitable 3-bets vs you. Go with 2x from those positions and 2.5 from BTN.

2- 0:18 - You could 3-bet K9s in there, people overfold OOP and play terribly post-flop, marginal decision, but in an anonymous site I think it's very good to abuse people in those spots.

3- 6:12 - fold J7o in the bb vs a 2.5x, even J9o is quite close given the rake

4- 6:00 - don't RFI A5o from CO, and as played, don't turn your hand into a bluff OTR, you can still win at showdown and it's a very bad spot to bluff, most people will call you very light in there, it's overbluffed like crazy.

they don't 3b very often though and I wonder how much value we lose by not building bigger pots pre?
part of the reason for sizings is the software I'm using, I'd prefer to open 2.5x from all positions, but I can't do custom sizes with Table Tamer, so I opt to just 3x all positions except BTN. On BTN I think it's bad to 3x bc you want to be opening a lot (especially in this pool) and like you said this gives ppl a really profitable 3b. So that's why I minraise.
Nick Howard talks a lot about how minraise is the most "efficient" raise sizing given ppl's folding tendencies.

table 3 K9o not K9s but in general agree 100%

I have certain reasons for opening wide that don't really want to discuss in great detail here. I agree opening 3x with offsuit Ax from CO is a bit awkward, again I'd prefer to go 2.5x, maybe I should just minraise.

Personally I 3x RFI open *most* Ax from the CO because of the strong blocker effect. The BTN needs a real hand to participate, and the blinds are worth winning. But, this is against micro fishes, so maybe not a sound strategy in a vacuum.

As far as 87s, I think we definitely need to cbet here. While KT6FD isn't a100%cbet spot this hand has low SD value and too weak to c/r (and obviously c/c isnt good).

MMAsherdog thinks like that, so who am I to disagree?

you seem to not know a lot of things about the game, but are super confident you have it all figured out. Gotta be more humble.
