Hello everyone!

About me
My name is Peter, I’m 30 years old and I come from Slovenia. Last month I decided to quit my job and to dedicate my whole time to poker. I've wanted to do this for a long time and now I finally found a courage to do it.

Poker history
I have started playing no limit hold'em around 5 years ago mainly just for fun with my friends. Since the game looked very appealing, I opened an account on PokerStars and started playing online. At the beginning I was occupying full ring cash games, then I moved to hands-up games, then to Sit N Go’s and about three years ago I finally landed at 6-max cash games. I have read quite a few books about poker (Harrington, Sklansky, Janda etc.) and watched some instructional videos but my game did not improve as I wanted.

This is my cash game results graph for almost 3M hands.

Coaching for profits
Because I had no success over the past years I decided to join a coaching for profits program. On youtube I found three sample coaching videos from coach Mel from FPC and I was so astonished by them that I decided to join their program. I contacted them immediately and luckily I was accepted.

You can follow my progress while I (hopefully) get better and better in this thread

Jesus lol. Absolutely incredible that your results haven't changed in 3m hands. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Hope you're able to change your game and improve w the CFP gl.

Last month I signed the contract and began my program. My coaches prepared quite a bit videos about their strategy so I had a lot of studying to do. I'm constantly making notes, analysing my hands, watching videos over and over again and just trying my best to improve. I have always been a very nitty and more of a passive player (which is not a road to success in poker) so I have to change a lot of things in my game to succeed.

I started playing NL10 and here are my results for September.

Last week was horrible. I reached stop loss limit twice and was very close to reach it for the third time. Therefore, I was qualified to have a downer review with my coach. We figured out that I’m not only running bad but I’m also misplaying lots of pots. And that’s good because at least now I know how to improve. Unfortunately, we also found out that I have tilt problems and I have to start working on my mental game. The only thing I’m satisfied from the previous week is the number of hands I played which could easily be even higher if I played decently. The last thing I want to add is that I lost with quads against runner-runner quads, which doesn’t happen very often.

Plan for this week is to work hard and to not let things go from bad to worse

This isn't a needle I'm genuinely curious.

Even at, let's say 1 million hands. Did you ever think to maybe stop or take a break and study more? What kept you grinding?

The graph shows winnings for almost all hands that I played in my lifetime. A little less than half of them I played only for fun and at that time I didn’t study much. I read few old poker books but back then I didn’t have a lot of time for studying because I had other important things to do in my life. Last year I had more free time and I started watching videos and reading books more seriously. I played around 1 million hands in 2015 and this year probably more than 600k (250k just in July because of the summer of grind promotion). I think I wanted to join CFP program at the beginning of last year but somehow I postponed everything, maybe because I wanted to get better by myself. However, now I know that this was a huge mistake and I should have taken the program years ago.

Here's a tip. Drop tables, drop to 5nl, spend 2x your volume studying off tables. You don't need CFP to improve, you just need to do something different.

Tomorrow I’m going on a holiday so I will not play poker for one week. Overall I could say that I’m quite satisfied with my progress this week. I didn’t study as much as I wanted but the reason was that we had coaching every day for around 2 hours. The basic strategy I know almost by heart but this week we produced so much material that it will be a very busy week when I get back from my trip. Although I had a positive week (maybe it was just an upswing) my game still needs huge improvements. I’m playing horrible on the blinds, especially on the BB. My very tight game on this position is costing me money and I have to improve it as fast as possible. And if I keep my current winrate for another week I can maybe consider moving to higher limits. But until that day arrives, I still have to work hard and learn a lot.

Frist two days after my vacation I did not play poker because I wanted to go through my notes before I get back in action. I also re-watched all topic videos my coach had produced which was quite time consuming. Then I started playing again and the main focus was my BB play. I think I did improve a bit because I had quite decent winrate on this position, although this might be just sample size. Overall I could say that last week I was playing fine. Unfortunately, luck was once again not on my side but I’m already used to this. Sooner or latter there will come a week when I will not lose all coin flips

Another week is behind me and I’m still stuck at NL10. I ran quite good this week but I’m far from being satisfied with my results.

I had two big losing sessions. I think that the first one was due to my tilt problems. With my coach we already found these problem a month ago when we reviewed my first and second downer. To overcome these problems, I have started reading Jared Tendler’s book “The mental game of poker” and I hope this will help me. I figured out that I’m losing big when I play longer sessions. So from now on my sessions will not be longer than 1.5h. For the second losing session I blame luck because I lost a lot of money due to bad river cards. For example, I lost 240bb big pot because the opponent hit a full house on the river.

I’m still working on my BB play and unfortunately I’m not very successful at it. My winrate once again dropped so I still have a lot of work to do to improve. I also have to improve my BTN play and increase my nitty 3-bet stats.

Past week was great. I hope it was not just an upswing and that I’m ready for the next level. However, tomorrow my coach will decide whether I’m ready to move up the ladder or not.

I’m surprised that I did not have any big tilt problems last week. Well, maybe I was just not aware of them. Yesterday I even laughed at one table when a whale tilted 3 other players. For me it was quite amusing because the regs started playing like huge fishes. I think I encountered this kind of situation for the first time and I was not prepared for it. When things at the table get weird it’s actually quite difficult to play.

My winrate on the BB is still not satisfactory but at least my stats are looking better. I also worsened my winrate on the SB so I cannot be satisfied with my play on the blinds. I’m still behind my schedule with my notes and learning plans. Maybe I just want to memorize and analyse to many things. However, this week I will keep on working hard and try to do my best at the tables because I want to get away from micros as soon as possible.

I got the approval from my coach so I took a shot at NL20. Unfortunately, I lost 6 buy-ins in only 4k hands and therefore I had to move back to NL10. I played horrible and I hope my next shot will be nothing like this one.

However, I did manage to get all my lost money back on NL10. Most of it came from a huge fish who lost 17.5 buy-ins in only 151 hands.

My coach said that I can take another shot when I get my money back. Because I did this already I will try once again this week and I hope this time I will play much better.

Another failure on NL20 …

.. but at least I’m still crushing NL10.

Overall not a bad week ...

... but I need to move up the stakes as soon as possible!

Last week I wanted to rebuild my bankroll and take another shot on NL20. Unfortunately, I had one horrible session on Wednesday which I had to interrupt because of the stop-loss limit. My play was awful so I decided to take a short brake on Thursday and work on my game. I’m still improving my BB play. Stats are looking better but are still far away from what I want to achieve, especially the winrate.

What a wonderful week! After failing twice at NL20 I once again rebuilt my bankroll at NL10 and took another shot at NL20. This time I finally managed to stay on these limits for whole week. Moreover, I had a huge upswing which increased my bankroll a lot. Now I can peacefully play on these stakes and try to improve even further.

On Tuesday I had a sweat session with my coach. It was awesome. The red line at the end of the session was completely different than what I’m used to. When I play alone I’m just too passive and tight and I have to improve this as fast as possible.

Here are my NL10 and NL20 results for last week.

Another good week is behind me. I was playing great and was just a few big blinds away from taking a shot at NL50 but then Sunday happened. I lost quite a bit of money, my bankroll shrunk and it looks like I will be staying at least one more week on NL20. I was playing horrible and with this kind of play I will soon land on lower stakes.

This week I will try to study and play more. If I manage to play 100k hands this month I get extra coaching and with my current pace, I think I can reach this goal. I just hope that my winrate does not decrease because this week is time for my first failure at NL50.

Two things did not happen last week. I did not study as much as I planned and I did not bust on NL50. Just the opposite, with variance and luck by my side I nicely built my bankroll so now I can grind on these stakes without fear.

I have to say that last few days I do not have the best feeling when I play. Every session I think I’m playing bad and that I have lost a lot of buy-ins. But when the session ends and I look at my winnings I’m always astonished. On average, my estimation is around 2 buy-ins lower. I do not know why but I know that thinking about how much money I lost or won during a play is not good and I have to change that. My focus should only be on my play and not on anything else.

The goal of 100k hands is not far away. I play a lot and according to my plan I will reach it by Sunday. Now I just have to plan how I will use extra coaching to benefit me as much as possible. Things I have to improve is 3-betting, 4-betting, squeezing and 3-bet defence. I also have to work hard on BB defence because it has worsened a lot. I still do not know exactly how and when to check/raise and check/call. Basically, I still have tons of things to correct. Well, next year I will have more of individual coaching so I will have a chance to improve even more.

Here are my NL20, NL50 and overall results for last week.

This week started great. I earned 10 buy-ins at NL50 in first two days so I asked my coach if I can take a shot at NL100. He of course agreed with my proposal and gave me a permission to bust 5 buy-ins of my bankroll. I think I’m an expert at loosing because I bust all of my allowance and a little bit more in less than two days. Most of it I lost on Wednesday. It was a horrible day and my personal worst. If I take into account all stakes, I lost a little bit more than 1k euros in only 24 hours. This result was for me very fascinating because I thought there were plenty of fishes at the tables. Well, in the end it turned out that the fish was me. However, I’m not afraid of NL100 and cannot wait to build up my bankroll and give it another shot.

As I planned I managed to play 100k hands in December and tomorrow I will tell this news to my coach. I guess he will not be too happy because this month he will have to teach me at least twice per week. What a great opportunity for me to improve!

Here are my NL100 and overall results for last week.
