Whats up guys!

First week in London is over!

I'll divide the poker in 3 categories:

ONLINE

I played a mix of regular NL400 and NL600 tables and some zoom500 for about 8.5-9h across 3 sessions for a total of 3532 hands, not to much, but as said, I'm mainly trying to apply some stuff I studied.

Here are the results:

ONLINE MTT's

I played a little session yesterday of 6 tournaments for WCOOP, and cashed 2 of them, the biggest cash being the WCOOP 1K with 310k on top, where I made day 2 and just busted for 4.6k$.

LIVE

I played 2 sessions of about 6 hours each and made a small profit and played like I played decent, and the stuff I'm studying helps a lot.

I also studied 11 hours, so that makes around 43.5 hours work week for the first one in London which is decent.

Regarding restaurants, I went to the Araki, a 3 star michelin Omakase here in London and this must have been my best sushi ever! Here are some pics!

O-Toro temaki:

Seared O-toro nigiri:

French sea bream nigiri:

Chu-toro with summer truffe nigiri:

For this week my plan is to play 3 live sessions, 2 online mtt sessions (big sunday!) and maybe one online cashgame session today but my priority is to study a bunch of stuff I saw while playing this week.

Also going to 2 new restaurants! Will leave some pics!

Some of that sushi looks incredible. Keep an eye on your mercury levels though my man!

Nice run in Barca. Kinda bittersweet I imagine, as it gets super fun after that.

Unfortunately I've never been to Tokyo, it's 100% one of my next vacation trips though! I saw that documentary about Jiro Ono, I'm not sure how much his omakase will cost but I would check it out if you can!

I have controlled levels of sushi intake haha! It's just on certain trips where I can't control myself, like in Barcelona or in Vegas, but for the rest I eat sushi once every 10 days on average maybe!

Yeah it was bittersweet, but I had a lot of fun the last 2 days so it was fine for me! I hope to just ship the main event of WCOOP instead!

Thanks!

She's a community manager, basically handles all the social network stuff for other businesses.

Maybe soon we get full time foodie bloggers though, and spend our lives traveling and eating :P

Hey what's up guys! WEEKY UPDATE!

CASH ONLINE

So regarding online cashgames, I've basically sticked to my plan and just played 1 online session and also yesterday when I started with only 2 tournaments, playing NL400 and NL600, and zoom500 again.

My feeling is that I'm playing pretty well considering I hadn't played for almost a year online, still probably EV- for zoom500, but EV+ for regular games.

It surprises me that actually the regular games haven't got any tougher, they seem very beatable still, I don't know if NL1K is the same, don't want to bother playing that right now, but NL400-600 isn't tough or at least as tough as I expected.

Anyway here are the results so far:

I don't know how much more I'm going to play, at this point online already served it's purpose, which was mainly to apply stuff I studied and get new ideas, I have so many ideas/stuff to study that I actually don't need to play more online, but I still might because I've been enjoying it a lot lately, but it's the last on my priority list right now.

WCOOP SUNDAY

I basically played what's on the pic above + the bigger 109 where I made last 2 tables unfortunately.

Ended up cashing 2 out of the 5 I played, the bigger 109 for 332$ and the 530 kickoff for 1190$, ending the WCOOP something like -1k for myself.

This are my bust out hands:

LIVE CASH

I only played to sessions, the last one I had to leave earlier than I wanted as the recreational proposed to play ROE of PLO/NLH and I have no clue about PLO but also wasn't going to be that annoying kid who says no and the rest of the tables says yes, so I just left.

Result where both in the green, but nothing special.

STUDY

I studied 15 hours this week, and the most important is that it was super effective. 90% of the stuff I did was PIO stuff, and I feel like I should just study and not do anything else right now until I leave to LA. Study is my number 1 priority for the rest of the month and Live poker number 2, online cash is just for when I can't go play live and I'm tired of studying basically.

Here's one of my excels to keep control of my hours:

A mix of spanish and english in there xD.

PLANNING FOR THIS WEEK

My plan for this week is to study at least 13.5 hours and to play live 3 days, hopefully 15 hours at least.

GASTRONOMY SECTION

Last week we went to CORE by Clare Smyth. Clare Smyth was voted best female chef by the world's bet 50, so we were pretty excited about this one! Here are some pics:

I think that's all, will try to post some cashgame hands the following days!

Hey! Time for the weekly little recap!

CASH ONLINE

Basically, haven’t played a hand during last week and probably just playing one last session this week.

LIVE CASH

I played 4 sessions this week for a total of 18.75 hours and achieved my goal for this month which was a very small one.

As you can see I ran pretty decent winning 7 out of 8 sessions. Also ran above EV given the ****ty games, but who cares.
Anyway, I’m done with live poker now until Los Angeles, flying there the 4th and I’m pretty excited!
Also, generally speaking, I’ve been studying a bunch, specifically for live poker, and I’m very confident with my game right now, so that’s a big plus!

STUDY

Another crazy week of studying… I studied 21.75 hours, which is definitely above average. But I studied like 90% of what I wanted for this month, so I’m super happy with that. I put in like 50 hours this month already, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to get to at least 60 hours, and then focus on playing once in L.A and less on studying.

Here’s how the month stands hour-wise:

PLANNING REST OF THE MONTH

Basically except for one online session I might still play, I’m done for the month, and will just study when I got some time.

This Saturday is my birthday so my parents come visit me for like 4 days, so this next 1.5 week will be a very heavy restaurant grind, super excited about that! That’s also why I haven’t really planned when and how much to study because it will depend on the family plans. That’s also the reason I’m done with playing, I don’t want to play a single hand while family is here.

GASTRONOMY SECTION

Back to Sushi this week. We went to Sushi Tetsu, and that was the best omakase we had in London (except The Araki, but that one is just way to expensive IMO). 100% recommended for the guys who are in London. Here are some pics:

This week I’m going to a bunch of placed, but the one I’m most excited about is The Clove Club, the only restaurant from London that made it into the World’s Best 50 list this year.

That’s all folks!

Reflecting on 2018 a little bit… There’re basically the following categories to talk about:
• LIVE POKER
• ONLINE POKER
• STUDY
• OFF POKER
• GENERAL

LIVE POKER: CASHGAMES

Basically, made around 6.5 bb/hour and won at around 185$/hour in cashgames in 636h that I tracked but there’s another 200h missing roughly because I still didn’t have an app to track results.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the results, even though I think this can still improve quite a bit in bb/hour, and for next year I’m looking to play higher again.

This year I agreed to some stuff in my backing deal that pretty much obligated me to play lower than other years, such as not splitting profits until the end of the year for example. I’m going to talk about that tomorrow with my backer and see if we can come to an agreement for next year, otherwise I might have to just play on my own which wouldn’t be a disaster either. I will anyway start playing up to 10/20 for myself even if I come to an agreement with my backer, except for some very deep 10/20 where I would still play backed.

I feel I improved a lot in many aspects of live poker, I worked on strats that do better in live environments compared to online, I decided not to ignore stuff such as tells, and many other stuff and I feel that gave me a lot of extra EV this last trip and gives me a lot of confidence for next year.

LIVE POKER: MTT’S

I didn’t play much but I basically bricked every single tournament I played except for the EPT Barcelona Main Event which was enough to end in the green with a 60% ROI.

My plan for next year (I will elaborate on my plans in my next post) is to play more MTT’s, I feel that NLH cashgames in Europe suck, and there’s a lot of EV (and variance) in MTT’s so I will study them more and play more.

ONLINE POKER

This year I played again on the China Apps, and I really regret it. I stopped playing them in April and I hope I don’t play them ever again. After that I played online in September after studying a ton and I felt super good about my game and I’m super confident I still beat the games up to NL1K online.

I plan on playing when I have time in 2019 because it’s still a lot of fun and the best way of improving.

STUDY

Like every year I studied a ton, but this year I’ve become a 100% independent learner, and I think I’ve found the most effective way of studying by far up to the point where every hour of study equals easily 5 hour of study the way I did it in 2017.
My plan is to keep studying a lot of NLH deep, specially focused on live poker, and then also start putting in some hours in studying PLO and MTT’s as mentioned before.

OFF POKER

GYM

This went great, I lost about 15kg this year and I’m down to 12% body fat while enjoying what I eat and I basically found a lifestyle where I don’t have to worry about gaining weight nor not being able to eat what I want.

GASTRONOMY

I started my Instagram this year where I publish all of our favorite restaurants and it already has 1450 followers which is pretty good for the short time we’ve been publishing.

I definitely had the best experiences this year, and I got some super sick reservation for next year already, including which is considered the best restaurant in the world, Osteria Francescana!

TRAVELING

Me and my wife traveled a ton… We’ve been to London, Mallorca, LA, Barcelona, Bali, Las Vegas, Mexico, San Francisco… many of the trips were poker related, but always made some time to enjoy all of the places, so I can’t complain about this either.

GENERAL

In general, I can say this year taught me a lot, but it’s been a good year, where I’ve enjoyed live a lot, where I’ve had fantastic experiences, couldn’t be more fortunate with the wife I have, the friends and family I have and this Is at the end the most important of all things.

I admit I expected a better year in poker, but even then, I made over 10k a month on average and I may be played 1000 hours (850h Live, 150h Online) which is nothing when you mainly play live poker, and I really want to play a lot more in 2019, focusing as much as I can on live poker.

On my next post I will post what my plans for 2019 are, but overall while writing this post I notice that this year has been much better than I initially thought!
