I've heard fallsview on the Canadian side is the worst run poker room in North America, despite having great action. Your thoughts?

Good fold. I hate it when I 3-bet with AA/KK and the board hits with two combos of Q, J, or Ts

I like a river bet/fold here in spots like this, $50

There's no way that title can belong to anyone else as long as the Hard Rock Tampa exists.

PM me whenever you visit Fl.

The dealers are awful and the floors are worse. I'm seriously waiting for a floor to just nonchalantly look at me one day and say "f*** you" when I'm asking for assistance. Like I would not be surprised.

Great action tho.

It also got me stuck for the month but surprisingly I didn't feel too horrible about it. Took like a few days off and got back into it and already got back in the black

Sounds like 1/1 at MGM

Good to know, I'm coming down the 2nd week of Sep with my dad for a golf/fishing trip with poker at night. Not sure if I'll play red chip despite being well rolled, as I don't want to get in awkward Mississippi straddle battles if there's some whale on my right and nobody else is exercising their straddle option

I dont think it was terribly run even though there was def room for improvement. Sometimes they are a little slow in filling up empty seats but I had no experience with table change requests since i was playing must move/main games. You can't use your phone at the table and most times dealers dont give a **** if you keep it out of sight though.

Action wise, it's pretty good. But similar to most 5/T in the states I imagine. The action isnt that much better to make up for the lower exchange rate imo

Playing 4 days of 5/T this weekend.. currently doing great 2/4 days, not running super hot but making very good hourly facing a great lineup. Here's to hoping to keep it up!

Oh and close to hitting 120 hours for the month already.. if you are playing fully pro and find it hard to put in hours, you have ZERO excuses as it can clearly be done and still stay at the top of your game while having a life.

Wow, this gives me some solidarity. Even with concepts that I'm interested in, I'm having trouble making myself get through books. And when I do get through them, I'm thinking, "I really should read that again and take notes and do ALL of the exercises, and probably play some online to test out the concepts in real play".

Of course, the schedule you keep for work, and the amount of time you spend grinding on top of that, leaves me entirely without excuses for the life I lead. Although having a gf is a huge factor, I really have no excuse.

Edit: Oh! I see you've pointed this out already:

The only thing I can think of in defense is that having a job/school that requires mental work actually has an edge for studying/improving/paying attention because it keeps the brain active, regardless of whether poker is engaging the mind at any given point. There's always the issue of burnout but I suspect that lack of mental inertia is a bigger impediment overall when it comes to ability to focus on learning something new. Burnout is a problem that can be remedied with R&R. R&R IS my problem.

Edit: that's not a defense, that's a reason to get a job or go back to school, myself.

Also it's tough to study for poker i think because it's not as clear cut and single-voiced for almost every other study-able discipline. If it's just about memorizing formulas or information or rules then it would be a lot easier. I guess ranges and equity can be memorized though.

In other news, i have gotten a lot better at keeping track of pot from my 1/2 days where pots are 2 digits to 5/T pots where they are 3-4 digits. Still forgetting to add the blinds sometimes and underbetting the flop but im getting quicker at adding raised and reraised pots post flop. Math skills yo.

August

What a month! I not only clocked 128 hours but also made a pretty good profit even when i thought i might be having a losing or only slightly winning month.

I was up 4k in the first week, went on a 6k downswing the second week including a disgusting -5k day at 5/T, took half of the third week off, went back to it for the rest of the month and shot up about 10k to end the month up about 7.5k. At my last session of the month last night, I was having an extremely frustrating 13 hour 5/T session being stuck a bit and card dead, then had an almost 5k up swing in the last few hours. Pretty sick game.

Spoiler:

Working up my stack to official chippr0n status! Making progress there

This will help getting me through tough sessions in the future. Knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel for every winning player.

I played a mixture of 2/5, 5/5, & 5/T with about 20/25/55% of each. That is a real step up from about 75/25/0% last month huh!

I find that I have to travel to get to good 5/T games but it's worth it even after the expenses (at least when I'm running good )

I learned a lot this month. I have been recording each significant non-standard hand right after each happen, and then going over them with my coach. I have definitely gotten more approvals and less critiques on my hand histories than when i first started last month. Yay We are also coming up with some new learning techniques which are helping me make new strides

Some of the leaks that I aim on improving next month are: being too tight preflop, and stationing too much on the river. When my opponent bet the river, and there's nothing I can beat then i have to fold no matter lolpotodds. It's not even a technical question but literally the calling station in me taking over. Bleh.

I also want to find time to do some volunteering next month. I'm looking at either animal shelters or soup kitchens, as they are both stuff I have done before and I enjoy giving back/help others through those activities. Think 1-2 hours/week is pretty doable.

I made progress at the gym this month too as the results were visible. One thing that annoys me is that I havent had much time to cook because it's a trade off between saving time eating out or saving money and eating healthier. Still need to improve my system i guess. I wish there are more than 24 hours in a day.

As for next month, I want to put in around 100 hours again. I think I'm going to put in more 5/T hours on weekends (which will be easy to do in 1.5 days with the rest of the weekend for social activities), which might leave me more time during the week.

And same as always: playing as well as I can in each spot. If not, figure out why and what I can do differently not just for this particular spot but similar spots with different hands. I'm really thankful for my extremely patient coach who puts up with my not-too-infrequent dumbness

Get ready.. set & go!
