My beginners journal, from zero to hero My beginners journal, from zero to hero

04-03-2017 , 06:22 PM
This is my second attempt at keeping a journal and now that i have PT4 it seems worth while as i can review my hands and see my graphs.

About me, iam a chef at michelin star restaurant so altogether i dont have alot of free time and what time i do get is late night, and sadly my family are asleep then so i like try find things i can do by myself late night, as just coming home from work and going sleep is just not mentally healthy for me i need feel like i have a little life outside work. So i dont get much sleep each night fitting in poker after work but i enjoy it and after a life of not really bothering with anything academic, i am really enjoying the mental challenges that poker brings, even the studying that as a child at school i avoided as my interests were not academic ( i joined the army which was my child hood dream) So its good to finally test my mental ability's which i feel i always underachieved through neglect on my part.

The aim of my journal is to keep me on track while i study and improve my game i plan to post hands from my review sessions with my thoughts and review process on them. I ll post my graphs , and update with my bankroll as i go. Hopefully while i am doing this i can get feed back and extra pointers on things i can be doing right or wrong

I ll mostly be playing 6max cash but occasionally when time allows i ll play mtts that dont cost to much to join and freerolls as i think i prefer mtts but my starting bankroll and time work against me here, so i ll grind it up in cash then if i get a good enough bankroll i may transition over to mtts.

My starting bank roll was £50 now currently at £58.17
been playing 2nl 6 max cash all week and 1 freeroll where i finished 4th for $3

this is he graph of my fist week, ive recently just started on a new poker site

An after doing my first session review with PT4 these 3 hands were my biggest losses

hand 1 villain was 11/12 over 36 hands

iPoker - €0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

Hero (BB): 100 BB
UTG: 87.5 BB (VPIP: 33.33, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 3)
MP: 98.5 BB (VPIP: 33.33, PFR: 33.33, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 3)
CO: 41.5 BB (VPIP: 20.37, PFR: 18.69, 3Bet Preflop: 7.50, Hands: 114)
BTN: 179 BB (VPIP: 11.43, PFR: 11.76, 3Bet Preflop: 10.00, Hands: 36)
SB: 131 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 3)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 8 A

UTG calls 1 BB, MP calls 1 BB, fold, BTN raises to 5.5 BB, fold, Hero calls 4.5 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (13.5 BB, 2 players) A 9 3
Hero checks, BTN bets 13.5 BB, Hero calls 13.5 BB

Turn: (40.5 BB, 2 players) J
Hero checks, BTN bets 25 BB, Hero raises to 81 BB, BTN calls 56 BB

River: (202.5 BB, 2 players) 6

BTN shows A J (Two Pair, Aces and Jacks)
(Pre 70%, Flop 82%, Turn 80%)
Hero mucks 8 A (One Pair, Aces)
(Pre 30%, Flop 18%, Turn 20%)
BTN wins 189 BB

Here i had gone for the semi bluff on the turn, and after reviewing it i think it was an ok play,

i used this formula in working out my fold equity

Ev= ev(fold) x X + ev(call) x (1-x)
Ev= 0.81 x X + .405 x (1-x)
Ev= .81x + .405 + 4.05
Ev= .85x + 4.05
x= 4.05/.85
x= 4.7% of his range needed to fold for me to make profit pus the fact i had 9 outs and maybe another 3 for two pair on river ( although thos last 3 outs would not of maid the difference to his exact hand holding)

hand 2 i think i made a bad ev call in end here let alone the bad one at the start preflop
villain was 21/16 354hands

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has Q J

fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, fold, fold, BB raises to 9.5 BB, Hero calls 7 BB

Flop: (19.5 BB, 2 players) 7 K J
BB bets 11.5 BB, Hero calls 11.5 BB

Turn: (42.5 BB, 2 players) K
BB checks, Hero bets 25.5 BB, BB raises to 79 BB, Hero calls 53.5 BB

River: (200.5 BB, 2 players) 3

Hero mucks Q J (Two Pair, Kings and Jacks)
(Pre 37%, Flop 24%, Turn 18%)
BB shows K A (Three of a Kind, Kings)
(Pre 63%, Flop 76%, Turn 82%)
BB wins 187.5 BB

i think my ev to call was minus here i used following formula

Ev(call)= our equity x what we win - villains equity x what we lose
Ev= 20.6 x 4.01 - 79.4 x 1.58
Ev= .21 x 4.01 - .79 x 1.58
EV= 80.2 - 124.8
Ev = - .44 on a call

think i have watch myself on plays like this and maybe on flush draws altogether as my 2 biggest losses both are with flush draws so something for me keep my eye on ova this next week
also after my review i think i need tighten up my ranges a little more this week but maybe 3 bet more
