in general we're also playing guys who don't punish a turn barrel by bluff raising very often so we can barrel wider for value (as long as we have enough strong hands to protect)

yeah great point, I like that thought.

So I arrived in dublin yday for the 6max series. There was a 250eu side event where I chipped up rather quickly and then got myself into this hand:

Utg rec (actually lowjack) who has been very agressive but has always had it so far makes it 2600 bb1200, I decide to get a little bit OOL and make it 8k from 55k stack from co, he peels

Flop q67 I think rainbow x/7.5k/call
Turn 4 x/I bet 16k with about 25k behind

I think this is pbb a very good bluff vs said player since I unblock underpairs for the most part and block qj qk too. It also looks pretty ****ing strong imo. Wouldn't mind some thoughts. but I think along with some wheel aces pbb our best bluff.

Anyway he ripped on me and after tournament told me he had 77 so ul me. Busted fairly soon after. Hopped into a 60 hyper to joke around while having some beers and ran it up to absolutely piles. Around bubble (last 10) I had like 3x avg and was running over the table. Last 3 I still had chiplead along with a pretty decent german guy and some sort of aggro rec but hypers gonna hyper and avg dwindled down to under 15bbs. Eventually lost 2 annoying showdowns and finished 3th. Didnt really care for the money but was pretty sad about not closing haha. Oh well still decent start of the trip and happy with how I played. Other friend took 3th in the 250 side for 4kish and another one has been crushing it on his phone online just woke up, gonna take a shower and then register the 1k highroller.

Oh yeah almost forgot. The tournaments are being held at a different venue this year. Very nice place etc however it's way further from the centre now. So we wanted to leave around 3am, we asked for a taxi (big one which can take on 6 people) and we literally have had to wait over 1 hour and a half!! The guy from the hotel had to call like 4/5 times ****ing fuming and telling it was ridicilous we had to wait so long. Eventually we could hop in a taxi with some kind of VIP from the hotel which then was so kind to drop us off at our hotel. We all had barely slept (some didn't even) so imagine how ****ing tilted we were. Problem is like this place is like 30 mins from the centre and apparently this part of dublin is pretty ****ing dead past midnight lol

Meh highroller was going pretty well, however was really unlucky with tabledraws. Eventually lost a 200k+ flip with aq < 99 to shower me pretty close near the end of day 1. Felt like I played very well and felt confident in my decisions throughout. Friend of mine got 6th after losing 2 brutal flips unfortunately.

Played the main 1a yday and absolutely switched gears. Opened up my ranges in every pos with like 10%+ and build heaps. Was sitting at 320k in bb4k but then lost every hand in the last 50 mins to wrap things up with 198k going in bb6k on day 2. Don't think I could have played a lot of hands differently. It's just how it goes sometimes. Still an ok stack but given I was up to 320 It was a bit dissapointing. One absolutely goat hand from yday:

Hij opens co calls sb calls I call bb js7d

Flop t96ssc x x x co 5k i make it 14k he calls (we are both 100kish deep)
Turn 7c I bet 16 into 40'ish
River 8c i ch he shoves I call he has 9ts for some reason lul

Not sure about riv, weird one. Was ripping blanks and spades pbb

Pretty happy I only had to fire 1 bullet though. Taking it easy today, and headinh towards the tournament room around 6pm for some cheeky side events.

Just got home from Dublin. Overall great trip, really enjoyed myself and had loads of fun. On top of that ended up making a decent run in the main event. Started day 2 with 33bb's and I see all the tables except for the one I'm seated at. Turned out they seated me at feature table as I was sitting with day 1 chipleader and some french winamax pro. Didn't feel great in the first hour since I may or may not have had a few too many drinks the night before, as we were drunk railing a friend in a turbo side event. Managed to double up pretty early though, which boosted my stack to 350k in bb6k. Day 1a chipleader decided it was his time to shine and went way out of line with 66 no heart on a t73qq hhhhx board where he x/r turn from bb and shoved river. obv we held the ace of hearts lol. I then broke even for a pretty long time, and there was actually a pretty interesting and grueling spot:

UTG French agressive winamax pro who seemed to know what he was doing for the most part (5 handed, so HIJ) opens to 20k bb8k and has heaps (600-700k+)
I flat BTN AThh, the blinds fold

Flop JT8 (I believe rainbow but not 100% sure) check/check
Turn A (might bring a fd but pretty insignificant imho) check/26k/103k

****ing cruel spot. there might be something to say for a bigger turn size but ingame I felt like it's hard to have lots of bluffs here and pick like an AQ+ sizing is pbb fine so went for like half pot. I guess it's worth mentioning at that moment we are like 160'ish left and 125 itm, so fairly close. Anyway decided to fold as I thought it would be a spot people would underbluff when I'm repping like toppair+ and have very often 2pair/straight.

First break and we got moved from tv table. I chip up a little and then end up in back to back **** spots. Both are with like 140-135 people left, so 10 from the money.

UTG/Lowjack opens 23/25k (don't remember exactly) I flat UTG1/HIJ TT with little under 40bbs and BB (day 1 chipleader who is down to 300k'ish) makes it 90k. UTG folds quickly and I'm in a world of pain again I think he will definitely be shoving AK/AQ probably and do very poor against his gii range but I could be convinced otherwise.

Very next hand I open utg AQs, UTG1/HIJ rips 15 bigs we call and ofcourse they have kings and we lose. Chip down even more and next hand I have like 150/160k in bb10k and its like 133 left and 125 paid so we decided to show some **** heart.

BTN (day 1 chipleader) opens 22k
We flat BB 75ss
Flop T86r check/check
Turn T 22k/call (no flushdraws)
River 2 116k allin/fold

Ended up making the money with about 20 bigs, scored an early double with 99 > AK and then went on a bit of a rush. First I flat AA UTG1 vs UTG and we go 5way to the flop (amazing). We take down the pot on 943r though, then win a decent sized pot with AT vs JT blind vs blind op T6367 and then ended up bet/bet/jamming vs day 1 chipleader on A56T7 with AT and got snapped by A8 so all of the sudden we have like 1.2 mil in bb16k.

Soon after I get moved to the tv table again with a lot of other big stacks and things just went southwards from there on. Even though it was 6max I pbb didn't win >10 pots in like 3 full levels anymore. When you open btn and bb defends and start x/raising 933 rainbow you can just feel the tournament slipping away. Eventually busted in 34th, but got like 2 decent payjumps before that so I felt fine as I did see it coming.

Overall was about breakeven for the trip, which is almost like a win for a live series. Pbb gonna flick in quite some online grinds now WCOOP is wrapping up. Still undecided what to do with my life. I would love to focus on poker for at least 6 months (and work on reworking thesis but that shouldn't be too much work) now but convincing my parents won't be easy I'm afraid. Will keep you updated.

Hola. First day back online and was def somewhat rusty in some spots. Ended up making a few questionable plays and at the end of the session I pbb made a bad calldown bc population neverbluffs despite me getting insanely good odds & being almost at top of my range I pbb still should have folded. Had quite some runs, got like 2 top 20's in the late night 6maxes, had a fairly deep run in b55 too, bubbled party 109 & 55, barely cashed the 215 battle royale after being dealt aq in early pos with 20 bigs on hand for hand and busting to the only bigger stack at the table. Quite an eventful session to summarize but no dice in the end. B55 was quite the welcome back present from stars though, got it in with jtss on qstx3s9s and was drawing dead, go figure. games were amazingly soft, gotta love the post wcoop grind <3

I don't think it's right to ever say you made a bad call down when near the top of your range. If you call and they don't bluff quite enough it's a slightly -ev proposition in the grand scheme, whereas if you start making super hero folds and someone does bluff enough, or heaven forbid, overbluff, then you're making a massive massive mistake.

Massive exploits only have a small upside, but they leave you open to huge potential loses if you're wrong. I mostly agree with Doug's philosophy that being a calling station is good, even when you don't expect them to bluff enough.

Obv was quite salty after that ending. I feel like every time I feel like I have become quite immune for tilt the poker gods throw me another challenge. It wasn't even that bad, but I guess it was more like accumulation tilt as a result of a lot of close calls this month, where I was not able to close a tournament that sort of got to me. Anyway, was over really quick and we move on to the next one. Planned two days of studying poker before I'll put in a big session tmrw. Mostly doing some piosolver stuff.

In the meanwhile I think I have sorted out what I plan to do next. I am just gonna focus on reworking my thesis so that I can graduate in february next year. Second part of the schoolyear I would love to do another internship, preferably abroad and I then would like to do another specialisation study in finance/investment next year. So given that reworking my thesis won't be too much work, this means that I will have a lot of spare time until february which I will dedicate mainly to playing poker. This feels like the opportunity I've been waiting for, and having the chance to almost fully focus on poker for 4/5 months makes me want to get the most out of it. Therefore I've set myself some goals for the upcoming 5 months:

[X] 800 games/month
[X] keep running scripts in piosolver for spots I feel uncomfortable with and come up with an easy to execute gameplan for most of those spots
[x] focus on decisions, not results (esp during the grind)
[x] graduate in january/february
[x] find an internship for next year, preferably abroad
[x] keep swimming 2x/a week and actually improving my stroke

I also decided to sell a little bit more for the 109+ tournaments, in order to reduce variance mainly. Looking at my current be/slightly winning stretch ofcourse all the variance came from 109+ again.

Winrate for the year, pretty proud of that actually given it's a +- 40 abi (its about 8.3 ev bb/100)

As I mentioned, my focus will and should be on making correct decisions however I couldn't help myself taking a quick glance at the poker tournament variance calculator. Assuming I'm able to play 800 games/month for the next 5 months, and assuming I have a 30% ROI on abi of 35 this is what i'm expected to make:

Obviously I know as no other that EV doesn't always materialize but I hope by being able to put in some serious volume I will at least approach it somewhat. Tag along for the ride

Holla. Played probably my biggest session in terms of actual tournaments (57) ever and tbh feel really good about it. Overall this week I'm very pleased with my play and today wasn't any different. Started off with a pretty deep run in the 33r and a 7th place in the 11r. Managed to also cash the milly, and was able to spin my stack in the title fight up to almost 3 million. Was swinging like crazy, but eventually decided to herocall it off and was wrong (obviously ) Felt like folding first, then I looked the guy up on sharkscope and he was hstakes crusher so I thought he would def be capable of bluffing the spot and pbb understood this is a spot which is undercalled/underbluffed so flicked in the call at the last sec. Fortunately was able to luckbox myself to a win in a late night 27 turbo 6max for an almost +1.5k day in the end. Just ran really ridicilous at that final table, and hu my opponent was super tight and I kept running well, but hey feels good to finally win something again, even though it's a small one. Back at it tmrw most likely.

So we are one third into the first month, and it has been interesting so far. Let me first state I really enjoy this new approach and have been enjoying every grind so far. Volume has been on point so far, given that I even skipped one planned session. I'm trying to hit 50 games/session and average a little more on sunday so that's working out well. To be honest really satisfied with my play, even though that doesn't absolutely show in my winrate so far as it has been the worst since a long time. Not too worried, mainly variance as I have been running pretty poorly so far. Fortunately a few small scores are saving the month so far, funilly enough in tournaments I wouldn't have played before such as the 7 hyper etc. Felt like I was picking up some momentum early one but have dropped most of it in the past couple of days unfortunately, since especially sunday was pure carnage. Also had a really good talk with someone on skype last night about variance in mtt's which basically convinced me I'm doing it right now and should just put in the volume. Next to that I've been putting in quite some stuyding hours as well as some reviews with my backer who is fully committed to poker again and has absolutely been crushing lately both in highstakes cashgames & mtts. It def helps boosting confidence when he tells me I've been playing very well overall and we try to adjust some things to exploit mtt players even more. I am convinced it's purely a matter of putting in the volume now and running perhaps slightly better.

MTD (down slightly less bc I sold a bunch for 109+)

Bonus hand, got the snap treatment too (fwiw think I'd check AQ no heart on turn)

Meh continued to run very poor in my past two sessions, except for the very low end of my buy in range where I've been winning an insane amount of silly showdowns until it started to matter. However, while I was down heaps (didnt have a cash for >100$ yday) I was building a stack in the b55 where I eventually finished 5th to save the day. Little bit of an annoying ending, where the chipleader first turned two pair vs my top toppair and then busted k8 < qj river q for max pain but not much we can do, innit. Was very happy with my play and look forward to reviewing it with my backer, think except for maybe one small hand at the final table played as good as possible. (limp/c btn with 76s vs aggro chipleader which was a little debatable with the way the stacks were set up) Fifth is always a weird/tough place to finish since it's a place you are neither happy or unhappy most of the time. I think it's important for me to remember though how well I've played and that's all I can influence in the end. Meanwhile I've noticed how ridicilously often my bluffs have been getting called this month, even though I think most of those blufs were actually good. I even remember joking to a friend of mine on skype that my image is so bad that I just got called with 22 on j366j rofl. Maybe I should consider stop posting those #imageposting hand. Hey thanks man. Yeah I agree I guess, haven't really been the player who was able to put in the volume in the last couple of years (mainly due school which always interrupted with poker) so we will see how this will work out. My current schedule is start around 17/1730 CET and register until the late night 16 hyper (which is around 02 CET). Last regspeed is much earlier though, probably like the 27 pko from 2210 CET if I feel like it. I usually play between 9 & 12 tables, which I feel is a good balance between volume and quality of my play still.

Mainly repping straights ofcourse. I think given my turn sizing I will have QJs QTs QKs & some QKo. Balancing it with AQ with a heart seems like one of the prime combo's on the river then I guess.

Well the past two days were very eventful to say the least. First I got absolutely demolished on sunday, played like 75 timbeys and lost 2k without ever having a chance it felt like. My winrate was still terrible, and even though I felt like I was playing very well, it wasn't reflected in anything result-oriented wise. Fast forward 24 hours, and the tide completely has turned. Around 8pm I won my first tournament which almost propelled me into freerolling the rest of my session but the best was yet to come. However it didn't seem like that when my internet shut down around 1am. At that point I was left with 3 tables including the h44 (just started), uppercut on partypoker (around the bubble) and 44 6max (last 8 with big chiplead). Because my mobile connection is very bad in my room, I'm somehow unable to connect to my personal hotspot so I had to switch to my telephone and multisite both partypoker & stars there while my mobile connection was still very weak. Needless to say this was a complete ****show, as I was timing out every 3 hands, because of switching between both apps etc. I remember me having aces at ft of the 44 6max, co opens and I'm in the sb and want to 3bet. Boom disconnected, fortunately I get added 120 secs and i'm just in time back to put in the 3bet (which is like biggest tell ever and almost never light?) and he ripped 88 and I held. Was timing out a lot in the uppercut as well on party, but fortunately bubble took there quite long so it didn't really damage my stack too much. I also remember me reconnecting to party again right after the bubble, and being right on time to call my jacks all-in and double etc. All in all super crazy times, but it was working out. Fortunately my internet was back up after an hour, and I could continue the remainder of my session on my computer. I cruised myself to victory in that 44 6max where I was left with 3 unknowns, and one of the tightest and most honest hu opponents ever. I won like 85% of the pots hu, was totally ridicilous he was never x/raising and he never bet more than 1/3 pot so it was gonna be pretty tough to lose that one. Meanwhile I was still hovering around a 20bb stack in the uppercut with 25 left and then the rush started. I shot up to the top of the leaderboard, including busting gilly (sorry bud) in a chiplead pot where my JTcc got there vs his kings on T76ccx and from there I played really well but also ran incredibly well. With 7 left, I coolered the number 3 in chips with qq vs 99 on q779x ddxdx and then had like almost 50% of the chips in play and I went from like 6 mil to 11 mil without pfai's. Unfortunately lost JJ vs 55 3 handed vs a reg I absolutely hate () to get hu with 9:1 chiplead but not much later I got hu vs that guy and I decided to chop it for 9k as it was already past 6am. Felt pretty surreal given the earlier internet disconnections etc, guess it was meant to be or something Taking the night off and back for two more sessions then on wednesday & thursday.

tldr

- ran like dog**** on sunday
- won 3 tournaments on monday for 5fig day
- I iz happy

MTD (slightly more games since re-entries/multi entries on ipoker are not counted individually each time and slightly less profit since I sold small % of 109s too)
