You print with every option, given stacks tho I d prob rather jam and not do those foldy things you like to make.

I fail to see how jamming is better than mr. Obv a really difficult spot to model with so many people behind, but given our position and stack size I think their "go allin" frequencies are fairly inelastic. Most are going to shove over a mr about the same range they would call a jam, so the only thing jam does is needlessly make us risk more than we need to. Even more so at a weak/passive table.

I just don't see this as a spot random regs in $10 tournaments are going to come after you light if you mr.
my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right Quote
01-02-2017 , 10:22 AM
problem is not rejamming, but ppl esp BB being able to flat and realize their equity.
my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right Quote
01-02-2017 , 10:42 AM
That's a non-issue. If the hand goes raise-call we've already won, we're massively printing just by virtue of how much dead money there is and how little we invested in the pot. At that point even capturing 40% of the pot is printing. I'm saying this mostly in regards to a BTN flat. A BB flat is absolutely never ever an issue. BB flat is a goldmine of ev for the EP raiser.
my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right Quote
01-02-2017 , 10:55 AM
Just because we are printing in absolute EV when BB calls, doesnt mean we are printing compared to when we would get a fold from him, or compared to the EV of direct jam.
my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right Quote
01-02-2017 , 11:14 AM
Correct, except when you're jamming you're doing so against the entire table. Taking the isolated situation of jam vs only BB is silly. Given the options of 1: take a thinish 16bb shove from EP on a weak/passive table vs 2: mr and give the BB the option to peel a lot, I'm fairly comfortable in saying #2 is superior.

But again, this is such a difficult spot to model accurately. Probably not even worth wasting too much time on it in the grand scheme of things.
my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right Quote
01-02-2017 , 11:18 AM
Don't actually think its that complicated to model, if one were to invest some time on it.
my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right Quote
01-02-2017 , 12:39 PM
if our reads provided are correct then obv raise folding vs the two stacks that we can aisefold against is fine. if we doubt those then jam is prob the same with possible lower variance. basically then nonjam option makes our hand choice kinda meh and makes a hand like QJo or KJo/Ax a better one due to smaller frequency of getting jammed on

Ofcourse m8 you know me too well

Thanks for all the input guys. I actually think it's very close between all options. Typically in these spots, when callingranges include pocket pairs that are highly inelastic (meaning it will consist of high pp's that have you crushed and a few highcard combos such ak aq aj) jamming pocket pairs that are crushed by the callranges is not the best option. I think you see this a lot in icm spots on ft's, where it could be theoretically correct to jam a2s and fold 88 or 99 even. Ingame I wasn't sure this was a spot which would apply to this thought process, but elected to fold anyway.

Ingame I also thought putting 77 in your bottom range as a raise is pretty poor, given its bad playability postflop on a lot of textures, but i'm not sure. The fact that we can call off quite some stacks when we do raise should make a raise better ofcourse.

Anyway, I plugged it into icmizer, and results differed from like a +0.02 to -0.02 ICM% shove, based on differences in assigned callingranges and stacks at other table. I'm pretty convinced taking this much of a marginal spot is quite possibly a mistake in such a soft field. Fwiw, we make about a 100k in chips (0.67bb) in chip ev mode with assigned callranges.

I'm still unsure as to what is the best option. I'm leaning towards raising big'ish to something like 2.5x or even slightly bigger to discourage flats, and pricing ourself a bit more in when having to call it off.

I think it's a much more interesting hand then people might think at first and I saw this by basically every response I got on here and on skype as well. Unfortunately it's quite hard to measure the exact EV of a raise compared to a shove, since you would need to model postflop equity/playability/skill level/etc.

Someone on skype pointed out something funny yesterday though while discussing this hand. 'Sometimes, it's too bad we are not bad enough' Thought it kind of applied to this spot hehe.

However...

Spoiler:

Took a break from studying and really felt like playing a session after almost 3 weeks of pure studying carnage (avg'ing pbb 9 hrs/a day)

We got 2 cheeky little wins for a +3.5k day. not a bad day at all I reckon. Delighted with my play in endphases in both timbeys, felt a bit rusty in a few spots along the session but overall pretty satisfied.

back to the study grind from tmrw on though, two more weeks, halfway!

played small'ish session on wednesday after exam. managed a be result after two small ft's, where I got 4th and 6th. Was not particularily happy with a few of my plays on one final table at the time, but in hindsight I guess it was me being more result oriented than I should have been after having it talked through with couple of people. Actually feel i'm at the verge of making that next step in my thought process, so pretty ****ing excited to get back on the grind after the exams.

I'll leave you guys with two fairly interesting turn spots. lmk your thoughts.

Def wanting and will have to change that when exams are done (in less than a week now woohoo) Also picked up meditating again, using the headspace app which I bought a subscription for one year for.

Hand 1 i´ll check back and call most non club river. Think betting doesn´t accomplish much, you´ll get shoved by flushes while getting value from a small part of his range mostly good AxcX and 99-jj with a club, but you might fold 66-JJ and other AX without a club that you want to keep in his range by the river where he might choose to bluff some of the bottom of his range or thin valuebet.

Hand 2 I´ll also check back, you block 88-99 which might cbet give-up, but his utg opening range should be very strong at a FT so its likely when he cbets, he´s continuing range ott is a big % of his entire range so when you brick river you´ll have to empty the clip in a very marginal spot.
I´ll take the free card and prolly give up river.

decided to show heart today, and fire until b33, bc I was gonna watch super bowl anyway.

It kinda paid off

b33 8th
55 stack 4th
44 6m win
4th bowl party

and some other cashes

laddered very nicely in a what was a flipfest towards the end the 55 stack, so was def happy with that result. b33 was a bit unfortunate, was one big whale who was running over the table playing 74/7 (!!) and couldn't do much about it. had a good laugh at how bad regs were adjusting to that kind of player though. pbb iso'ing way too wide, raising too big, etc 44 6m was sweet, sunrunned that one pretty hard and was in control from last 12 on.

Make up down to 4 figures, LFG bitches

might post some hands tmrw, too tired now, gn ^^

A3 hand: weird spot OTT. I guess bet big/fold to raise, re-evaluate river? He should have a decent amount of hands that will want to call a large bet sizing here, I think? Actually I have no idea I think any option is probably ok, would be interested to see what sims would say

89: Probably checking the turn. I think I'll have a lot of hands that will call flop and then check turn/ value bet river. Barreling it off is probably fine too, but im a nit.

So we are off to a very good start in 2017, making ~100$/game yeah I know very sustainable etc but #feelsgood. Actually had been sick since wednesday, but felt recovered enough to play yday, and happy I did so and even more happy I decided to play a full session since basically all of my scores come from tournaments I usually don't play on stars. Make up down to lowest figure in ages, vaaamooos.

Off to a short winter holiday from wednesday-sunday, def looking forward to that. Will try to finalize my 2017 goals afterwards and post it here. Will be a tough semester with internship and thesis, but will try to squeeze in hopefully at least 2 quality sessions/week.

With regards to the earlier hands. I decided to check back turn with a3s, since I think flatter will have a bunch of flushes, and is not going to bluff a lot of 4 clubs anyway, and most likely don't lose a lot of value and can get quite some value on bricks as well. I dno, felt close.

And I bet the 98s whereas opinions were very mixed. Lots of mtt'ers wanting to check, cashgamers wanting to run it and bet turn/jam river. Went for a 24k size, which I think is good if you want to bet. Not sure, pbb doesn't matter that much, although felt stupid when he x/r to 60k lol.

I like to thank you for all the well wishes, it's really appreciated. Peace

Ok, big update incoming.

First let me talk about school. I passed 5/6 exams, plus had a good score for a project (which counts for half of the points) but unfortunately my only fail was a 9/20 (we need 10/20 to pass) so that one hurted quite a bit. Oh well, other scores were 10, 13, 14, 15 & 17 so can't be too dissapointed ofcourse. This semester we have one course for a month, and afterwards we have an internship for 2.5 months (I'm doing it at the investment analysis and portfoliomanagement department at a national bank) which will be interesting since I've never really worked anywhere yet. In the meantime, we also have to write our master thesis, of which ofcourse I didn't do anything for yet. ^^

Secondly, winter holiday was very nice. Went to same place as last year, because it's just the goat and it never dissapoints. On the first day, we did the sella ronda (in reverse order as opposed last year) which was simply amazing again. Weather was the best of all 3 days, and snow was excellent as well. Next day we decided to do something we hadn't done yet, and went up to the marmolada. After some nice descents, we ended up at the feet of the marmolada, where there are 3 consecutive cable lifts which take you up from 1400 meters to 3250 meters! Unfortunately, we already saw it coming as the top was super foggy. Anyway, there was no way back, and indeed, at the top you already had to be happy to see the poles which defined the ski track. It was actually fairly dangerous, and for me especially it was even more annoying since my glasses were fogged real quick. At one point, about midway, I made a minor crash bc I couldn't see a single thing (everything was just white, and I was totally disorientated haha) but nothing serious.

Apparently this is the view we totally missed out on.

And this must have been the beautiful ski track. Imagine this being just totally blank white, struggling to see any poles. Might have been the hardest descent I've ever done, just bc of the extreme circumstances. A good reality check of how strong nature actually is. Want to do this again for sure when the weather is better, seems absolutely stunning in good conditions.

Last day we also did a route we never did before, and went up a beatiful church at 2000 meters. Afterwards, we decided to try and do the sella ronda (in the other direction we did the first day) in half a day. Another challenge which we completed succesfully. Believe we had like 15 mins spare time, but in all honesty, I had to wait a bunch and def could have done it at least half an hour faster. Maybe next year we could try to do the sella ronda in both directions in one day, just for bragging rights ofcourse. ^^

The church, which seems to be even property of unesco

Quick impression of sella ronda on the last day. Ski'ing between the rocks, pretty cool ^^

And another beautiful shot from the first day.

Came home sunday evening, and rythm is totally ****ed up (in a good way) so woke up at 9-10am twice in a row now. Anyway, played a session yday, and ran very well until it mattered (lol 30 ev bb/100). Got like 9th, 12th and some other runs. Lost about ~3 fiddy so it's all good. Will get them next time. As always, made a few silly mistakes just bc of missing routine (one spot where I timed out where I was absolutely gonna 3b jam flop etc) but overall feel very good about my game. Shoutout to the guys I'm talking strat to on a regular basis, lately there have been some eye-opening moments and interesting things we found out/are studying.

As promised, i'll conclude with my 2017 goals.

[ ] At least 2 quality sessions/week

Most likely gonna be sunday and monday and/or wednesday.

[ ] Coach lowstakes horse at least 1h/week

It's really stupid not doing it. Costs me money, and not that much effort. However, this has to come from both sides.

[ ] Clear make up (currently 7k)

Speaks for itself.

[ ] Meditate 5x/week and at least before every session

Very important one for me. As I mentioned already, I picked up meditating again, and so far it has had a good impact on me and especially before poker sessions. I think it makes a huge difference in my approach, and it helps me playing more of my a game.

[ ] Pick up working out again
[ ] Pick up cycling again

Working out bc I'm gonna oblige myself to do so, cycling bc I still love it and with the first sun coming out, it's starting to itch again.

[ ] Learn to cook

Finally want to learn how to cook some proper meals for myself. Some variation on take outs and other stuff will be very beneficial.

[ ] Drink each day at least 1.5l of water

Really gonna have to force myself in the beginning, but think it's very important for a lot of different areas in your life. (number one being health)

[ ]Stop being envious of people who have been more fortunate, makes no sense anyway

In the past, I've been known as a pretty big hater. It's not something I'm proud off, but it is what is. I'm trying to let it go, and focus on my own now. I mean, it doesnt make any sense and it's just a waste of energy, which I should invest in my own improvement.

[ ] Leave the house at least once a day

Doesn't matter for what purpose.

[ ] Travel to some places I have not been yet

Really want to explore some new places, whether or not poker related. I mean have been a few times to dublin, barcelona etc and those have been fun, but my free time is gonna be kind of limited (until june) so if I travel, I would love to visit some new places. (Scandinavia for example)

[ ] No further ramblings on skype after I'm done with my session. Close down computer asap

This is gonna be a very tough one. I often find myself rambling hours and hours on skype after sessions, talking about a million different things, and before I know, it's 5 am again and I've wasted 3 hours haha. I mean, doesn't seem very productive.

[ ] Start early enough on writing master thesis (lol)

Another hard one. Should actually pick it up this week already, but I doubt myself haha.

[ ] Read at least 5 books (ffs that is like one book for every 2 months)

Not a very important one for me, but would be nice if I could do so. First, I would like to finish shantaram (the book i've been 'reading' for about 6 months now lmao)

[ ] Graduate (master degree)

Well on track so far. If possible, with cum laude.

AMBITIOUS

[ ] Play on my own at the end of the year

I have been backed for a very long time now, and I think the games I've been currently been playing, I'm better of playing on my own. Ofcourse, therefore I'll first have to clear make up and then make some money as well to take a shot at this.

[ ] Top biggest score

Would be cool. Not a very specific goal though.

Will wrap this up with some graphs, which all of you like ofcourse.

very sustainable I know right.

Haha, the 'not hating on anyone' or 'ramblings on skype' one ? I could see both haha.

Sounds fun! Let's def talk about it later.

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate it.

I'm not sure what my price would be. I believe friend of mine (that_anon_pgc) is charging 50$/hr (which I think is a steal for anyone who plays low-midstakes btw) and I think we are somewhat at the same skill level, so something along those lines I guess (maybe a bit more expensive if I compare it to some of the guys that are coaching and charging way more, I def think he's underselling himself fwiw). Currently not really coaching anyone for money though. One guy once reached out to me in pm, but he eventually decided to join a stable.
