10.9.2018 Bought tickets to Salzburg, Sunday etc.

Finally, I bought flight tickets to Salzburg. We are leaving Finland on 29th of September. I still need to book a hotel. It seems like AirBNB prices are quite high, basically the same price as a hotel. I thought Airbnb was supposed to be a bit cheaper? I guess not.

Sunday:

Sunday was a brutal day. I went to play the football game, which was probably a mistake. I had some stomach flu on Saturday after the Tampere trip and felt quite bad after the Sunday's football game, so I didn't end up playing at all. It sucks to miss out on Sunday, but what can you do. I hope I'll be ready today.

11.9.2018 - Small break

Had few days off from poker and I have to say I feel pretty good. Breaks are always a good time to relax your mind and get ready for the next session. Now I feel much more energized mentally and physically than two days ago. I feel fresh and ready to play again. These tournament series are tough mentally especially and sometimes it's very nice to reset your mind from poker.

12.9.2018 - Get Fit Challenge: Start, 13.9.2018 – 13.12.2018

All right, time to kick in the first challenge of this thread. This time I'll be focusing on my health, which has been declining ever since the start of 2017. At the end of 2016, I was still in fairly good shape, going to the gym, I had PT I was working with and had football 5vs5 match once a week, gym work out 3-4 times a week, etc. It was going well, but I wasn't cutting any weight, because of bad eating habits. I was still in decent shape though, because I was working out, but now I have gained weight( about 8kgs) and lost all the muscle and stamina I used to have, so my fat % is through the roof.

Why follow this challenge? You can win money. Read more below.
My goal: Cut 12kg of weight in 3 months. Exercise 5x times a week and no junk food.

All right and now to the fun part (Fining system):
If I eat Snickers or similar small bar, I will have to pay my readers 25€ FINE. Every time this happens, I will donate 25€ to one reader who has responded to this thread. Same goes for bigger items, like a big chocolate bar (over 100grams), I will have to pay 50€ FINE. Same goes for junk food, for example, deep fried stuff, french fries (25€), the whole McDonalds meal (50€) and Burger (50€). I can eat oven made french fries/sweet potato fries, though.
The maximum limit I will put for Food challenge is 500€, If I lose over that, I can say I failed with this challenge.

Exercising five times a week (fining system):
My goal is to exercise 5 times a week, and If I am slacking, I will be fined 25€ for each work out I didn’t do. So If I work out four times a week, I will be fined 25€. That means I will donate 25€ to one reader., If the amount is larger than 25€, I can decide to split it and give it more than one person.

My GF will work as a bull**** detector in case I am sick, and I’m not able to do the workouts. She will tell If I am sick or not, so no cheating will be allowed in this regard. No bull**** skipping workouts. Thank You, Marketka!

The Maximum limit I will put for Sports challenge is 250€, If I lose over that, I can say I failed with this challenge. (I can fail ten times max.)

What counts as an exercise? 40 min over exercise, running, gym, etc. Walking is not an exercise unless we are hiking for a few hours. During the challenge, I will try to improve my stamina and sports ability, so my standards will rise through the challenge. I will start with 40 min exercise plan and then build it up to min. of one hour of running etc. My GF will work as a bull**** detector, so my workouts will be properly done.

If I fail the challenge?
I will pay the poker community 1000€. Either give it to one person or more. Up to me how I decide to share the money.
I can fail the challenge in many ways, If I don’t lose over 12kg in 3 months, I eat junk food for over 500€, or I skip too many workouts (over ten times).

My guess is you will succeed and finish the challenge just before Christmas on 19th of Dec. And then gain around 4 kg back over the holidays

Seriously though, gl. I am trying to lose weight myself atm. Not ambitious enough to promise 5x per week training though. But the fine system can work. One of my friends was using it for different stuff, like learning a new language, exercising etc. with good results.

Thanks! Haha, that's quite likely. December I want to visit Prague anyway for the EPT and Prague they have some nice restaurants I need to visit. December won't be easy.

Thank you. I have tried many times with different approaches and they haven't produced any proper results. When you have the public pressure and the fine system, I think it's worse to fail, so it pushes me more. I think it will work!

Learning a language? Do you know how he was practicing? If he wouldn't learn 50 new words in one week, he would punish himself? I just bought a German-English dictionary, because I'm trying to learn Germany.

13.9.2018 Weight and the target weight

All right, so the challenges starting weight is, drumdrumdrum.... 109,1kg.

So the target goal will be 97,1kg, so let's make it 97kg for the simplicity.

TARGET GOAL: 97kg

First adjustments:

1. Stretch more. My body is not used to stretching and it's not performing as well in sports, because my muscles are short. I really need to focus on stretching to improve on this. It's not fun getting older hah.
2. Eat veggie before a meal.
3. Drink more water during the day and less caffeine(Coffee).

He was following an online course where you had to do certain amount of work every day. If he didn't complete the days exercises he paid a fine.

Good luck man! I’ve been struggling with my weight, but have been able to go from 104kg to 89kg in +/- 4 months

Stick with it and you’ll be fine! My guess is you’ll ace this challenge at december 16th.

14.9.2018 First workout and poker

All right, so 13.9 I got the first workout done. 43 min run. It was a good 6km run. Today I have a football game, so my second practice should be done. Saturday I will meet with my old friends, so I will probably do the work out on Saturday and just focus on recovery (couple drinks) and tournaments on Sunday.

Poker:

It's been a brutal month. Results are bad, didn't play well either. I really have to go through all the hands and plug the leaks from the last few weeks. After Sunday I will just use a couple days going through the hands and plugging leaks. I would say a lot of impatience in my game, I try to do too much and it makes me do more mistakes. A bit too much try, when a more solid game would bring me better winrate or profits.

Topic ideas:

Short-stack game (how to play short-stacked)
FT-table replay(go through WCOOP Ft-table in a video)

Any other ideas?

Thank you! At the end, pain motivates me the most. It seems like I made the bet too easy because almost all are saying I will make it.. Too easy.

I've been working out daily for almost four years. My daily workouts are a mix of weightlifting, boxing, swimming and cardio sessions. The best way to loose weight is to run 1-2 days a week 30-45min at a slow/normal pace.

What I have learned?

# all that matters is that I'm there and trying my best,
# working out every day is a big challenge,
# rest day recovery is the best way to keep moving,
I wake up every day hungry for what’s next...

The best way to lose weight, to run only 1-2 days a week? That's it? Hah.

Sounds like a good mix of sports. Do you stretch a lot as well?

15.9.2018 – Small things matter and your daily happiness

I was thinking about it. What do we want to do every day? Are we doing these things daily or not? I think these small daily things add up to our happiness. For example, I haven’t read a book in two weeks, because I’ve been focused on poker, playing poker, studying poker, etc. On my free time, I was either doing some activity, so I didn’t have time to read, and it’s something that bothers me when I don’t get to do things I like. A lot of our happiness comes from doing the things we enjoy, and sometimes we forget what we like and what we should be doing daily or at least weekly.

When we get older, we also seem to forget some activities we used to like as a kid, or we want to ignore those feelings because we are not supposed to do some things when we are older, I think it’s bull****. These activities are just as fun when we are older. We are getting older in physical age, but not mentally. At least I have a hard time picturing myself as an old person and someone who doesn’t enjoy the things I used when I was younger. In the end, I still enjoy pretty much all the same activities I used to enjoy as a kid. We don’t change that much.

I guess my point was, keep doing things you always enjoyed earlier. Sometimes you are in so much rush to do something else; you forget to enjoy those things you always used to enjoy, playing football, swimming, jumping on a trampoline(did it once last year and it was a blast haha, I don’t have the same stamina anymore, though.. ) and watching Ice-hockey.

Stop and think what you used to enjoy and you might come up with many activities you enjoy even today. You’d be surprised. Sometimes we forget these things when we are busy doing everything else in our lives.

EDIT;

Small daily activities work as a great stress relief and bring nice fun to life.

16.9.2018 - WCOOP coming to an end.

All right, last few chances to bink big. Hopefully today things run smoothly and I'm able to play a good game and see some good results. It's been a tough month, but I think now is time to turn it around and play my best game. I have one day 2 in $22 tournament, so hopefully, I will bink that. We'll see..

I think you will succeed with your challenge on 17th December.

If you want to succed 100%, I would suggest you to calculate your TDEE (how many kcal you use per day, lots of free calculators online) and then download myfitnesspal and weigh&log all the food you are eating. Its a bit annoying and takes a little bit of time to get used to, but worth it if you are really serious.

17.9.2018 $5k and the Sunday

Blah, quite exhausted today, feeling a bit down, but more things to come tomorrow. Ended up winning satellite to $5k WCOOP ME, it was a good experience, but not much else to write about. It was the biggest tournament I ever played, so nice new experience in that sense.

18.9.2018 - Short-stack play 10-40bb

I will give you a quick review of the short-stack play; these are general population tendencies you can abuse. These tendencies are especially true for low stakes games, $1-$30. They work at higher levels as well, but it’s more obvious at lower stakes, because in general the games are tougher and more aggressive at higher limits.

1. People play way too tight, when short-stacked. It almost feels like people play the opposite of what they should do. They play loose at first(when deep stacked), when they should play tight(play more nutted hands) because people play way too loose and then when we get short-stacked they just nit it up and try to win a flip when they blind out from nitting it up. I think being more conservative first level is much smarter than later in the tournament, that’s when you’re supposed to open up your game. Let the fish spew the first few rounds of the tournament.

2. In general, people don’t 3bet enough pre-flop or play aggressive enough vs. openers. People always prefer calling, instead of jamming, even though jamming might be very very profitable because people call re-jams way too tight and raise fold too many hands. For example, If I am agro raiser, you should be punishing me a lot by 3bet shoving a lot of hands, but this rarely happens, and that’s why it’s very profitable to open-raise marginal hands even with short-stack.

3. 4bet ranges are very tight, too tight. The point is, you can get away 3betting more than GTO says because people don’t punish you enough for 3betting too light. They might call your 3bet, but then fold too much to c-bet, so you print money again, or they might even fold too much pre-flop.

4. Steal steal steal. Do you want to increase your Non-showdown winnings? Steal more, 3bet more. Lower stakes, you can try to abuse players who don’t defend the blind. Especially target the players who are not defending big blind(you can set this on your HUD, how much they defend BB). Higher stakes, it’s not as profitable because people understand to defend the blind and you don’t make an auto profit, because they defend, but even higher stakes people defend too much by calling and not 3betting. 3betting makes your opponent life much harder than by calling.

5. Push-fold and ICM. Learn what hands to push-fold(you can try ICMizer, great program for working your push-ranges and ICM spots). Remember people call way too tight shoves, but start with nash push ranges, and you’re printing vs. the population. Try to think one thing, though. Is it more profitable to jam 20bb or just raise-fold. It’s often better to raise fold than jam because people 3bet all-in too tight, so most of the time with bigger stack 15-20bb, especially marginal jam, I raise fold.

6. FT-table ICM, the most common mistakes I see people making at FT-tables is raise calling with small pocket pairs. Don’t do that. Small pocket pairs are most of the time awful calls at FT-table because you end up flipping most of the time and costing yourself money. Shoving 20bb from BTN w 55 might be profitable, but r-calling vs. opponent is -EV, so be careful when raising with small pockets @ FT-tables. Quite often they turn into a bad call, even though they would have been profitable all-in pre-flop and good play.

7. You can limp! If you have a 20bb stack on BTN and a hand like Q8s vs. aggressive blinds, I will limp and play post-flop with my hand. No point raise folding your equity vs. aggro blinds. They can still jam over your limp, but it’s not nearly as profitable as shoving over your raising range. So If you face some truly tough players, who put a lot of pressure pre-flop, you should be building some limp range from BTN, especially around 12-22bb deep.


Of course, these tips are just general info, so you still have to adjust to a certain player type(loose reg, tight reg, good reg, loose fish, tight fish, etc.), but these general things help you to understand how you should see the game and make you a bigger winner with 10-40bb deep. I probably forgot a lot of things from this, but those are a good start.
