Guess I'll consider this done.

Around €4100 w RB.

I've been playing 100z and 100nl and it's slightly different for sure. I'm still very sure I'll have a good winrate though so I'll aim for 200nl and reevaluate once I get there.

If I'm struggling and need focus I'll update the thread with some sort of challenge, but for now I'll just chill and keep on improving.

Almost all stars. I saw in your thread you're considering moving sites. All I can say is - try putting some numbers on it. I make a little excel sheet whenever I have doubts and it keeps telling me you'd need a heck of a lot better RB deal than what's available today for other sites to be clear wins over zoom.

MSNL BR Buildaments Quote
12-05-2016 , 08:10 AM
Thanks, it's a bit of both and a splash of another site. But like I said, I think every option is close.

As for my results I'll say that I did plan to do this bankroll rebuild about a year ago, but eventually brought it to a halt since I felt it removed my mind from some important real life decisions that had to be made. This is what happened then.

I think this time my approach is much better. My game revolves more heavily around fundamentals, and back then I hadn't gotten into the nuts and bolts of blocking effects to the same extent that I have now. PIO also came along after this, and once I realized how critical user input and interpretation is to get something out of it, I think it has helped me.

What I'm saying with all this isn't that I'm some sicko, but rather that I find these smaller stakes games fun and easy due to just having a better grasp of what's important than my average opponent. I have no clue what my edge is, but the hands people flip over and my filters for certain key areas tells me it's huge.

My 50-100nl game does revolve a lot around picking low hanging fruit though, so it's not like I'm expecting to be able to ride these graphs much higher. I can tell immediately by facing some 500z players in the 100z pool that they have some clever stuff up their sleeves that I would have to work a lot on adjusting to. But let's cross that bridge if and when we get there.

I feel like I'm at the point where I can get lost in the game like I've done in past years, but I certainly will try not to. I find you only have so much energy to do something really well in any given day and I would like to find a way to put equal parts of that energy into uni/training/social and then fit in poker in such a way that it doesn't disturb the bigger picture. I can feel already that it does, and I will look for ways to counter act this.

But I'm happy too see that the smaller stakes are soft for this very reason. In some ways this thread is more of a beat than a brag given that I shouldn't really be in the position to play these stakes with my experience level, but at the same time i think it's silly not to be able to enjoy poker as a little side thing and make a few k / month and be happy with that. We'll see what happens in the end.

Anyway, it's getting ranty and I'll stop for now.

Just not being interested enough in playing hands well. You can play a million hands a year and watch every RIO video without ever going through the reasons for your actions in any satisfactory detail, and I think this is very often what's going on.

If you just ask yourself why you're doing things and truly take the time to connect the dots you wouldn't be making the mistakes that 50z regs make all over the place. You'd see that the equation of the others guys range and your hand and the course of action you chose didn't add up. It's not hard to arrive at these answers logically so anyone can do it. The hard part is finding that spark and getting to it.

I think the biggest hurdle to people not doing this is a mix of bias, ego and arrogance. Human beings just want to think they're good at things, and I think this is why you see all these struggling smaller stakes players pull the variance card or blame some other external factor for their lack of success. It's much easier than admitting that you probably don't understand the fundamentals of winning poker and that you probably make mistakes all over the place.

It's all imho and I'm not saying I have a perfect answer for these things, just that I think it makes more sense to assume you suck and can improve everywhere. The norm seems to be to seek confirmation that you're playing "fine" and "standard" and should just keep grinding and it doesn't make that much sense to me if the goal is to improve.

I got to the point of feeling very good at any 2/4 - 3/6 table, but still crapping my pants a bit when facing pressure at 5/10. I guess this was in 2012-2013 or thereabouts. Tiny volume, I was a big time waster

man you really nailed it in the last post... this is something I realized recently while being on an extended downswing ... so easy to autopilot and think how you are playing standard when in reality if you are playing low stakes your standard will very often be way off and you are also just throwing great winrate out of the window by playing like that

if you are looking to improve cutting down number of tables is necessity, doing work of the table and thinking over every decision in terms of ranges

also subtle form of tilt is very often overlooked which can have worse impact on your EV winrate then some more extreme forms of tilt, which is somewhat counter intuitive

Pretty low volume last few days but in my defense I got a good amount of uni stuff done.

The 6 buyin drop was all gifts to start off todays session. Having a standing dinner and drinks invitation obviously matters little when you have the chance to pull a nice rostucko grind so this was my friday evening. You never learn with this game

Another distraction that has kept me both from playing and moving up to 200nl has been me considering an update to my setup. I'm on a single 25" 1440p display atm and it's not ideal for playing reg tables with all the lobby management and game starting going on. It's just too straining on the eyes beyond 6 tables.

I ended up getting a second one just like it and mounting them on a nice dual monitor arm but I ended up hating it. Too much side to side eye and neck movement. I think what will end up happening is I'll just get a 32" 4k and be done with it. I've already spent way too much energy on this.

Fist pump candidate and a nice tank fold but I'm really not loving it. I just see people snapping bluff catchers in these spots too often. Not sure if it's the way they hand read flops in general or if they just glance at my rather high overall cbet % and wrongly assume it has anything to do with this kind of board in these positions. Either way it's probably best to stay value heavy against a lot of players.

Thanks kos, don't think we got to tangle ever but I remember the name and avatar from 50z. GL with the grind!

I'm a little bit scared of my performance at the tables this weekend. I did ok results wise but there were probably a good ten to twelve stacks punted in spots where I recognized I was cooked but just didn't care enough to adjust. It's probably been ten days since I did any off table work as well.

From experience I recognize this is one of the many roads to a nice motivation and confidence dip so I'll try to take it very seriously while variance is still my friend. If I can't light that focus and study spark again this coming week I will formulate some sort of challenge to adhere to.

Gl all!

Just posting to remind myself that these two days were all me. My mind is scattered due to a lot of real life stuff coming up and if I can't muster any reasonable level of focus I should be smart about it and not try to put hands in.

That yellow line has no business being down, and that red line has no business being up over this sample.

Focus mode starts tomorrow. If that means a couple of hundred hands a day until I feel like myself again, that's fine.

Up about €4k for Dec with rakeback due to winning some flips and clearing a bonus on another site.

The strategic mindset from the past month is still gone. No in depth thinking, no clever adjustments, no curious detours in PIO. Just emotion and click click click
