You should know it still works and at leas I fell for it.

When you play a session, do you keep jumping around tables randomly or just sit with selected tables for a whole session? Do you do table selection?

What methods did you use to help you improve fast besides playing those tough situations?

well i dont think you played the hands that way because you meant to post them to troll people.

most of the time when ppl post hh, whether it's for entertainment or strat, they want comments. When you post a hand you misplayed, what did you expect ppl to put?

or if you wanted ppl to think you're just awful (for your own entertainment), admitting you were trolling later doesnt make much sense.

Obviously they are mis played. And obviously I didn't mis play them intentionally.

You've never trolled before? Really?

It was literally a year ago, the troll is over.

So this week has been pretty rough. I went out to start my car on Wednesday and it wouldn't start. Tried to turn on my head lights, etc. and they wouldn't turn on, so I figured it was just a battery issue. Took my gf's vehicle to work and then called triple A and had them send a guy out there while my gf was home. Had him jump it and it started, guy told my gf that she needed to wait 15 minutes while it runs (standard). Anyways, he left and I guess after 5 minutes it turned off again.

Ended up calling triple A again the next day to tow my car to midas, told midas I thought it was a battery/altnerator issue probably and explained what happened. They tested the battery and it was, so I got it replaced -- $250 for battery + labor. Called the guy who sold me the vehicle and he said he would be able to do something for me.

Anyways, the same day I got a call from my sister, my dad had fell down the stairs at his house and broke 6 ribs and had a punctured lung. He's been in the ICU the last two days and is currently at the hospital.

Looks like he's going to be in the hospital for a few more days. I have monday/tuesday off right now and came back to the area and am staying at a friends house right now. Plan on seeing my dad in the morning.

As for poker I'm down 1k this month, EV im -650. Ran soooo awful a couple days ago. Will keep everyone posted on my Dad's condition.

Sucks to read bro. Should have the dealership handle the car man, doesn't it come with a warranty?
02-16-2016 , 05:24 AM
Wishing your dad a speedy recovery.

Cars are such a pain sometimes. I spent £160 on mine a couple weeks ago getting two tyres fixed and the wheel bearings sorted.

hope your dad gets better soon!

It was a used car, so no. There was no warranty and I literally signed something that says "as is". The guy said he would ship me a check to reimburse me though.

Hope your dad gets well soon. That blows.

If I were you, I'd take some time off poker. My worst downswing of all time happened the week after my dog died. I just didn't give a damn about cards and my results showed it.
02-16-2016 , 09:07 AM
Hardly a downswing, its 5 buy ins. Thanks though bob!

I wasn't commenting on your play. I barely skimmed the thread. It's just what I would do even if I felt that I could play well. Maybe you're a mental game master and you can block out your personal life. I can't so I don't play when my personal life is ****ed up.
02-16-2016 , 02:31 PM
Hope your dad gets well soon, thoughts and prayers out to both him and you.

Also, you totally got jipped going to midas. I think I had triple a replace a battery for me about 5 years ago. They did it for 100 for a 1993 minivan. Autozone will also install the battery for you for free.

A few things to mention.

1. The battery is a little different, so it's more expensive
2. Yes, labor for installing a battery is insane, all it takes is a youtube video and I could do it, but I was very preoccupied and getting my vehicle to autozone would have been impossible.

My mental game is the single most strongest aspect of my game. I basically never tilt. I very rarely get actually annoyed/flustered and at most after a bad beat I'll simply say, "well that is unfortunate". I'm also quite unemotional in every respect. I have some pyschopathic tendencies I would say. This is generally balanced out by my rather emotional girlfriend (who reads this PGC). I'm sure she would agree.

There are other issues to my game that mostly stem from not playing exploitively enough/simple (or too complex depending on situation I guess) and obviously, as always, I get 0 volume.

I visited my dad for about 4.5 hours, significantly longer than I wanted as I've now been up 20 hours and am quite exhausted. Uunfortunately this throws a wrench in my schedule as now I'm sure ill be waking up quite late evening. Whatevs, off to iowa city here in several hours.

How many hrs a week do you play?

My volume has dropped recently, find myself with no urge to play at all some days.

Tilt/mental game is my one of my biggest leaks. However recently I've made huge progress. This came in the form of stopping playing whenever I felt uncomfortable, stressed/annoyed at an outcome and also things like boredom, hunger and general loss of 'happy mood' whilst playing. This results in me quitting maybe 5/6 times for anywhere between 5mins-1hr or so, during an 8hr span or shorter, but at least it's kinda dealing with tilt.

I know it's down to the individual, but if mental game is your strongest part of your game, what advice can you give to achieve that, and what did you do?
02-16-2016 , 03:48 PM
I play less than 10/week atm I'd say, or right around 10.

My mental game came quite naturally, but I think a big aspect is distancing yourself from the results and mainly focusing on the reasoning of your decisions. Before the outcome happens, if you can justify your decision every time and for every spot it's difficult to become annoyed. Accept the variance now.

You'll also find when you go into a downswing your mental game will improve a lot. As I was moving up stakes I as nearly 50bi below EV. I shot took 50nl and in 10k hands I was $1000 below EV.... 20 bi. Just insane run bad. Did wonders for my game/mental game though.
02-16-2016 , 04:04 PM
After a session I feel more at ease with myself if I've made no mistakes and ran bad, than say, made mistakes and had a smaller losing session.

Wow I guess you just have to sit back and say, ugh okay, when you run like you did.

Did you drop back to 25nl? How long did it take before you could shot take again? Did you run okay at 25nl when you dropped back? Or did that 20bi downswing put you back a month or two?
02-16-2016 , 04:51 PM
Nice read Brokenstars, the Mental Game stuff is definitely something i have been working on, still get pissed when i shot take and get coolered though, guess thats natural. Anway Gl with the poker and the car

Geezus! I wish your father all the best and for an easy recovery.

I found myself just playing C-game a lot and shorter sessions. When I dropped down to 25nl I was breaking even when I was winning 10bb+/100 prior to that. I wasn't "tilting" per se, but certainly not taking the time to think through spots. Rather than making that big call or big fold I'd just take the easy route and kept making (common) mistakes that I usually don't make. Calling off a triple barrel with AA, because, hey I have AA and not really thinking it through enough. So yeah, I dropped down, wasn't getting results, bought mental game of poker, talked to other people, posted on here a ton and took a 4-6 week break completely not playing poker and just trolling the forums more-or-less.

Yeah, definitely annoying. I think aggressive BRM is best though and just take those 3-5 bi shots and move down as needed. It's the moving back down that really hits people hard, but you really have to stick to it.

Thanks Jon and Irishdemon89.

I visited my dad for about 4.5 hours in the morning. Came in shortly after 8am and he was surprised to see me (he didn't know I was coming). He seemed moderately depressed/slow. When he talked his tongue definitely seemed not to respond 100% (all the pain meds). He had an epidural.

We mostly just small talked and in around 9am physical therapy came in. I got to see his side, which was completely black and covered the entire left side of his body where his ribs are obviously. He also had a chest tube to drain the fluid out since he did puncture his lung a bit. The tube was pretty large, probably half an inch in diameter, and the fluid coming out sort of looked like a light pink fluid.

I helped the physical therapist, named Becca, who had pretty massive tits (painfully massive), get him up and onto a walker. The big tits part brings me to a short anecdotal, my brother's brother in law who I'd known for several years ended up getting pancreatitis and going to this hospital a bit over a year ago and eventually died. Well, my brother had said that all the nurses were surprisingly very attractive, and well, he was right. Lol. Anyways, we walked him around the floor twice, while the original goal was simply once. I trailed behind with his stand-thing, that had his IV and stuff in it. During the end of the 2nd round he was visibly flustered, and from my perspective I knew he was in pain (although he doesn't visibly show it much). We got him back into bed and he was shaking slightly, though still fine. He did a great job.

Later on my sister came with her daughter who is now 4 months old, Hazel, and she sat and we talked with him for a while. Then a social worker came to discuss what his plans were after leaving the hospital, if he needed anything etc. Now, some back story, my dad is a pretty severe alcoholic, consumes 6+ beers a day for the last 14 or so years and also smokes heavily, 1.5-2 packs a day as well. I had previously mentioned to him, when it was just me and him, that this could potentially be a good opportunity for him to quit smoking/drinking and/or to severely cut back. He agreed, and when speaking with the social worker we got information on AA meetings and some information regarding drugs that would help with withdrawl symptoms.

Overall, he is doing pretty well. He appears to be mildy depressed (expected) but also seems eager to change his life. He will likely be in the hospital until the end of the week and then he will move in with my sister, her boyfriend, and her 3 children. His recovery period is likely around 2 months, and then he will start looking for a position likely as a factory worker.

As for me, my prius ran fine there and back. It's about a 130mi drive. On the way there I got an average of 40.5MPG and on the way back 45.2MPG. I'm ready to grind out the next two days of work and then I will have a 3-day break. I am going to head back to my friend's place in the area Friday evening and then likely visit my dad again Saturday morning. It's my buddy's birthday on the 20th, along with two other people whom I don't think I know, and it was also my b-day feb 8th. He's going to have a keg/party and I'll be there/spending the night. Much looking forward to that!

As always, gl @ the tables everyone.

Subbed at last.
Happy BD and GL to your dad. Very nice he's turning the negative experience into a positive one(stop drinking/smoking).
Arrrg, car problems... So glad I ditched mine years ago. Joined carsharing, which was a Godsend.
