A few people has told me about this, but you're constantly planning still and grading, plus I miss the flexibility of the corporate world. My students/planning is constantly in my mind, I feel like I can never relax during the school year.

I referred a friend considering teaching for a 2 year contract in China to your post #1047. Thank you.

Why don't you move up? I mean can you actually beat the rake playing 50pl/nl or lower?

From what I've read and heard, Asian students are lot more obedient and accommodating for teachers. It's not school for them, they WANT to learn English. If your friend gets a legitimate and reputable teaching company to work for, I've been told it's great. Chinese people worship white people like gods.

Yes, I can beat the rake. PLO variance is scary and I don't really like variance. PLO is super soft on Bovada and it is very tempting, but even the best players have massive swings in PLO. I play at 50 to learn the ropes.

Sigh, this is a personal post so I hope you guys bear with me. I gave my notice the other day that I'll be leaving my teaching position that I just started 6 weeks ago. I really thought teaching was for me, but the amount of stress, pressure, and anxiety that I've faced has been very overwhelming and has led to physical illnesses. I thought I could handle it but maybe my nativity and hopes and optimism overshadowed my doubt. Now that I've experienced what it is to be a teacher, I don't envy them, and they thoroughly deserve a raise and all the vacation/off time that they get. I feel awful letting down all my fellow teachers and administrators that hired me as well as the good students that I enjoyed working with. I really wanted to do well for all of them. Here's a passage from an article I read about leaving the teaching profession that basically puts what I'm feeling.

"I was even struggling to keep up with the never-ending planning and the frankly demoralising task of resource-hunting and differentiating that had to be completed ahead of each lesson. All in all, I felt that no matter what I did or how long I worked, I would constantly fail."

Another paragraph, "In theory, the classroom hours aren't bad and the summers are free. But, many young teachers soon realize they must do overwhelming amounts of after-hours work. They pour out emotional energy into their work, which breeds quick exhaustion." Because of the overwhelming work, I don't have as much free time as I used to have. I realize that I want my free time in small increments rather than having huge breaks. I know most of you will say 2 months isn't enough time. I say try being in my classroom for that amount of time and then tell me it isn't enough time. Don't judge without being there, and I'm sure many teachers will agree with me. I don't have the energy to deal with everything anymore. You can call me a quitter and you're probably right, but I'm doing what's best for me. Thanks for reading.

Hello, I've been lurking for a while (I am also in SoCal and played on Bovada until recently) but felt compelled to post... Don't think of yourself as a quitter/failure for the job. At least you took a chance and tried something new. It's better to do that than to always wonder and regret over "what if." You get to walk away with some new insight and probably a different perspective that will make it easier to appreciate your next job.

Thank you, that's what my supportive friends have been saying. I appreciate your input. Though I'm sure there are people will disagree with me which is fine too.

Are you going back to accounting or going to pursue a different path?

That's the plan, we'll see if I get there.

6 weeks? Wow. I'm not calling you a quitter, but it's crazy to quit 6 weeks into the busiest time of the year. It slows down, you adjust, you do better over time. You also worked at a charter? Obviously you are going to be overworked compared to a public school with more structure and less demands.

I worked at a charter for 3 years in AZ before moving to a public school, which has been awesome so far. I think you should've stuck it out, but a lot of young teachers have trouble taking the emotion out of it and dropping the workload once in awhile for your own sanity's sake.

I agree that you need to do what's best for you, though. But I feel like 6 weeks is only a snapshot of how amazing teaching really can be...good luck out there.

Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. As a whole the teaching profession is under attack. While I love to teach, it's a constant battle with students, and it's something I feel I don't think I can win, even if the students are better behaved or even with better classroom management skills.

As you know, I grind live cash at night. Since I have too much free time during the day, I am looking into dabbling into some online poker. Nothing big, maybe 100PLO or 200PLO. I hear ACR is reg infested and bovada is the way to go, however, with the imminent switchover to Ignition, I don't know what to expect. Do you have any suggestions? How is the traffic on bovada/ignition during the day? Is it even worth it to consider?

Thanks in advance!

From my VERY limited experience, the day traffic on Bovada/Ignition during a regular workday is pretty non-existant. Online poker is a different beast and I highly recommend that you start at 25 NL/PLO. ACR is reg infested, but I haven't played on that site in a very long time.
