I have been messing around with the double or nothings this month with some good success. I just am getting really bored of 4 tabling them and playing push/shove monkey poker. Considering moving to cash, even if it hurts my bankroll.
I prefer PLO but the NLHE games are just too juicy locally for me to consider playing PLO live.
Also, sorry to hear about the run-bad... today I lost 10 DoN's with QQ+ all ins on the bubble. Sucks..
If you want to improve your fundamentals, hand reading, and generally have a higher win rate, definitely 6 max is the way to go. If you want to improve on playing multiway pots play FR. Since most live cash games are FR, it's more difficult to isolate fish, thus if your main goal is to improve your live cash game, you should play FR cash online. Fish find it more comfortable to play in FR game for whatever reason.
I love playing PLO, absolutely love it, the main reasons I don't play it are variance and the rake at micros. You are never really more than a 65/35 favorite a majority of the time you get stacks in, as there are a lot more outs with good turn cards. If I wanted to play for fun, I'd play PLO way more often, but I play poker to mostly make money so I stick to holdem.

I played zone for a bit early last month. I started hot but then cooled off considerably. It's very difficult for me personally as you're right it is readless. A great majority of my profit comes from whales/fish and adjusting. Without a regular table, it's hard to determine who is a fish or not. I suggest you stay away from zone.

I see VPIP's as high as 6 max games on FR games, which is why I was considering switching.
