I'm back from my adventure and I did it. More than 50km in 3 days.
I also had a smaller back pack that I was wearing on the front. for quick access. (Snacks, usefull clothes ; coat, sox, sweater.)
Because of lack of experience, I thought Of bringing extra water. ( dont have to access water to treat it to be drinkable). But the problem was the weight, as I was way heavier. for walking, water is your best friend and worst enemy.
This is the map you can see a bit of the topography. There was a lot of climbing. Its the end of the Appalaches. Lots of peaks and valleys as we say.
DAY 1: The departure. 20km
We were supposed to start the first of July in the morning but my partner, an old friend of mine, felt very tired that day and asked for leaving the next day.
I accepted, and the next morning he showed up 2 hours late...
My tilt level was rising as I was stretching my legs. ''We been talking about this for months and the guy can't even be on time.''
When the guy arrived is backpack was not even finished, or adjusted or anything. Was a bit shocked from the lack of prep. And guess what; After 5 mins of walking the trail he said to me: ''My backpack is way too heavy'' I sight and said: ''Oh well'' kept my walking rhythm.
First peak.
Second one.
You can see the small progress made. Well that's a lot of sweat for it. and that view was quite depressing but also breathtaking.
The lake in the valley.
The beaver dam on the other side.
The second lake.
At that point I was extremely tired. same for my partner. And we knew that we had an other peak to go through before our campground. I think the ratio of complaining between me and my partner was something like 20 him, for 3 from me. It was slowly getting on my nerves. That section was extremely muddy, my feet were constantly wet. It was also a factor for the low morale at that point.
The last peak.
On the other side.
We took a break there, as the sun was setting. I never been this exhausted in my life. We were both going thru our memory of the past. Trying to come up with a point in our life we been that tired. And remembered the time I went to Paris as a teen. And after the flight decided to climb by stairs the Eiffel tower. Was so tired that I felt asleep in the ice-cream I ordered.
We had a small walk before setting camp and eating supper in the night. Did not take pictures. But it is the most rudimentary campground you can imagine. The only commodity being a poll for suspending your food. So bear can't get access to it...
DAY 2: Loosing my partner.
The nigh was a bit cold. Woke up at 4 am in the morning. But ended up falling asleep again, when gaining back my body heat.
The next morning it took a lot of time to repack our things. I was noticing that my partner was not really excited to keep on going. My body was not sore after the day 1. And dally basketball training seemed to have paid of. But my friend didn't had a body training before the hike. After 30 mins of walking. And 2 hours late on the program. I noticed that I'm way ahead. So I take a break, and a decision. If I want to finish it, I need to tell him that we separate. He will be crossing a car road in 8km. Than he can decide if he quits or continue. But at that speed I will never finish. And As I said to him: '' I will cross that parc what ever it takes.''
So I gain some speed and went on my own. It was mostly flat. Until the hardest climb. I should have taken a picture of the trail. I don't even understand how they maintain it... Smallest step of the hike, and a lot of swearing later, you get and insane view. In the very middle and peak of the mountains.
One side.
The other side. 10 steps further.
Than a lot of going down until you cross the road. Took a meal break until I called my friend and knew he was quitting. Than went on. It was mostly flat, until the last peak, where there was a watch tower. Took a pic to show how on the side of the cliff.
The last picture is the end of the trail. And where I will be heading tomorrow. I had a incredible sunset. when I arrived at the campground.
The next morning I took a pic of the cliffs I just walked by. You can see the watchtower.
I had to squat the campground, as the reception was closed. So was a bit stressed to leave the as soon as possible the next morning. Took time to take advantage of the campground commodities. Good water, showers, can make a fire. But left as a thief at 6am after quick breakfast and stretching.
DAY 3: THE COAST, THE END.
was a tough part as I didn't sleep that well. I took a nap at some point. But good thing it was mostly flat.
That was quite an adventure. Who knows? There might be an other one waiting for me. I am shocked that my body was able to pull it off. It was the most intense thing I ever did.
Now let's play some cards.
