Re: Moving Through The Micros

What's up guys,
Yesterday was a cheat day on my diet and weight lifting program so I went to BDUBS and got some wings and spinach artichoke dip with my lady. Slammed 5-6 beers after the losing cash games, and set my alarm since I have finals. Well I woke up with 30 minutes to get to class and hauled A$$ to get there, but then realized it's Wednesday and my final is on Thursday, so there you have it. Don't drink alcohol with finals in the morning (or not in the morning).

Well, I got back home and was going to go to bed but decided to play some NLHE cash for little change. I just realized that the SNGs seem to run a lot more in the morning and afternoon rather than later at night, so i'll start grinding out some of those this summer when school gets out (on Friday).

Cash sessions were pretty good. I was 3 tabling, 2 6max 1 9max. Stacked a guy with AKs v A7s, my queens cracked cowboys, and AA held against 88. I did lose a PF all in on the 9max short buy in table, my JJ vs AA. I was on the right side of the majority of flips this morning, which is always nice.

I may play tonight depending on when I get off work, but that is to be determined. ACR free cash bonus was $2 today. That's about all I have for you guys today, but if my calculations are right, we are

Re: Moving Through The Micros

Hey, guys

Didn't play much today, but I lost a bit in Omaha again.
Went to pick up my motorcycle for riding season since weather is finally turning around, so that was nice. I had that final this morning and another tomorrow morning, but after that it's summer and the true grind commences! Played one jackpot SNG for $2 and lost on a shove heads up my A7suited as short stack against AQoff and I whiffed. At least I didn't get beat by like an 8-3 off hand. Oh well, I only played an hour tonight, which isn't enough in my book, but my girlfriend seems to be especially needy and I cant deal with her constantly distracting me while I'm trying to focus, so it's just time to call it quits. It's really frustrating for me when I'm in the bedroom at my station trying to grind out and she keeps coming in every 5-10 minutes asking me when I'm coming out and all this stuff. Like, I'm trying to build something.

Do you guys have problems with that too? How do you handle it? I love her and I don't want to piss her off, but at a certain point I just feel like leaving to go play somewhere where I cant be bothered. Especially when I am in a decision for my stack and she starts asking me questions and stuff, I just tell her kind of sharply to just give me a minute to think and by then time bank is gone and I end up making a bad decision. I think I am just going to have to go somewhere else or something. We have a clubhouse with study rooms at our complex, so maybe that's my new spot. I did just buy a really nice office chair to play in though, so it's kind of against financial sense. Idk. I'd really like your feedback.

Usually just 2-3 but if I'm playing turbo SNGs or jackpots I will just play one at a time since they are so fast paced.

Re: Moving Through The Micros

Hey, everybody!

I just want to say I really appreciate the feedback on here and the responses, no matter how few or far apart. It's really cool to me to be able to connect with other players with similar goals since most my friends and family don't really understand what truly goes into what we do or why we choose to spend our time on this game. It's hard to explain to outside people who think it's just gambling with no skill involved, but I really enjoy doing this challenge and having people respond to my progress.

That being said, let's get into session 15. I played some Omaha when I woke up and just couldn't hit anything, and I lost a buy in, but no big deal I guess. Right after, I went and played a jackpot SNG. I used to grind 2-4 of those $2 ones at a time in the past and turned 10 into 80. With improper BRM I took a shot at the $40 one and lost. That was probably 4 or 5 months ago when I was just playing around. Well, today, I played only one of the $2 Jackpots and hit the $12 spin and shipped it, which felt really great! That was probably the highlight of the day today. I had to go to my sister's graduation ceremony immediately after, but got home and played some single table 9 max SNGs. We only cashed 1, but it was a first place finish.

Some weird busts happened in the losses for the SNGs. I shipped KK vs 22 pre and flop came 662 and we whiffed that one. Then I had about 6 BB in another SNG and called 2 PF jams with 44 from the BB. We were up against AQs and AToff, and of course the 2 outer Ace spikes on the river. Overall, I feel like I made good decisions, but I know I still have a lot a lot a lot of improvement to do, especially in these cash games. I have tightened up a lot moving the VPIP in Omaha from 46 to 28, but it still hasn't shown any real difference in results. More studying is needed.

Anyways, it's finally summer and I am off school! I work M,W,F,Sat and Sun, but I will be grinding on all my days off. That's a promise to you as well as myself. Goal is to be playing either 20 SNGs or 1000 hands of cash per day off and half that on working days, since I'm not home for 8 hours on those days.

Thanks for reading and good luck grinding! Results posted below!

Cash Game Session 15 Results:
Win/Loss: -$1.84
Hands: 45
BB/100: -204

SNG session 15 Results:
Played: 1 JP SNG $2 and 6 reg $1.65 9 max
Result: +6.85

Total SNG Results:
Played: 27
Cashes: 11
Win/Loss: +$13.85

Total Challenge results:
Winning/Losing Sessions: 12/4
Cash Game Results: -$10.98
Cash Game Hands: 3881
Cash Game BB/100: -9.78
SNG Win/Loss: +$13.85
BR: $140.61 (includes ACR bonuses)

Sidenote: I realized that in my SNG stats, PT4 includes that one bounty tournament I played just to play a tourney. I'm not going to change results below for that, but just a reminder for myself.

Re: Moving Through The Micros

I'm thinking about putting $25 on my account to take a shot at some higher stakes just for fun. If I win it will count towards my BR, if not I wont count it. It's kind of just a shot in the dark. I won't be using PT4 to track it unless it's a success. I know that seems kind of backwards, but I really have been craving some action. Let me know what you guys think.

Theres nothing wrong with taking shots but you should still track it mate. You need to see how you're progressing. Just me 2 cents

if you're ready to take a shot and you can find the funds then do it. don't let the PGC hinder your poker growth. imo track everything. no real reason not to.

Sounds good. I'll track it. still thinking about it, but I will probably lean towards higher BI SNGs rather than cash games since I'm doing better at those

Re: Moving Through The Micros

What’s up, everybody?

Played a little bit shorter than I would have liked to tonight, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I don’t think I’ll be able to be playing the 20+ SNGs a day due to 1) my work schedule and 2) the $1.50 ones just don’t run all the time. Some days, like today, I will just reg like 4 or 5 at a time and play lower stakes micro cash PLO or NL until they start up. I will try to get the 20 in on Tuesday, my next day off, but we’ll see what happens. I didn’t have to wait too long today, thankfully, but managed to get a few hands in of cash and 5 9max $1.50 + .15 SNGs. No turbos, just the regulars. Turbos seem to be less skill involved and I lose part of my shorthanded edge to luck or lack thereof.
Free ACR bonus today was $2.
As far as the SNGs go, I lost 3 and cashed 2, both cashes being first place bangers. I decided to start writing down my losing hands to review post session, but I’m not sure this will be long term. Just a little review. Not going to go into too much detail with stack size, PF action, etc. Here they are.

First loss was my QJ vs 33. Shipped on flop of 3QJ w 2 diamonds. I wasn’t super concerned about flush draws jamming since it’s too likely when I jam I have a hand that has that dominated. I was hoping to get a call of AQ, KQ, KJ, JT, AT, or QT, but I do block most Q and J combos.
Second loss I forgot to write down since I had a final table going on another table and needed to make a big decision, but I believe it was my KQ vs AQ or something like that.
Last loss was me as short stack. I have 86 off and call a min raise in the BB. Flop 899, I check/call a min raise, and the turn is an 8. So I have a boat and get jammed on and call hoping for the guy to have any pocket pair. Well, he had Q9 off, so that’s just a cooler. I think if I really took time to think about it, I could have found the fold, but if I start folding boats I am just too exploitable.

As far as shot taking goes, I didn’t decide to go that route today. I was thinking about putting $5.50 on to play a SNG 2.0, which is basically a 9 handed spin n go, but the min. deposit is $25 so I decided to hold off for today. Perhaps on the next day off I will go for that and deposit enough to play 5 of them and just roll the dice.
I’m really excited to have my BR back to where it was before the huge PLO loss. We are so close to being at $150! That’s going to be a celebration for sure when we hit it.

Anyways, I am happy to take the win on the day! Results down below.
Thanks again for reading everybody!

Cash Game Session 17 Results:
Win/Loss: +$0.09
Hands: 11
BB/100: 16.36

SNG session 17 Results:
Played: 5 reg $1.50 + .15 9 max
Result: +$5.25

Total SNG Results:
Played: 32
Cashes: 13
Win/Loss: +$19.10

Total Challenge results:
Winning/Losing Sessions: 13/4
Cash Game Results: -$10.89
Cash Game Hands: 3892
Cash Game BB/100: -9.70
SNG Win/Loss: +$19.10
BR: $147.95 (includes ACR bonuses)

I must have messed up my winning/losing session results since they don’t match session number, so I’m just going to change the session number to match the win/loss results. Update takes place tonight.

I have a saying that I use before I enter the casino that I will start adding to the end of these. It goes like this:
“Let us run good. Let us run hot. Let us pick up some big ****ING pots!”

Re: Moving Through The Micros

What’s up guys?

I didn’t play yesterday. I was going to after work, but my grandfather came out from Ohio this weekend for my sister’s graduation and I wanted to spend time with him. His wife, my grandma, just died this past year. He is also an amputee, so it was a big deal that he made it all the way out here. It was great seeing him and spending time with my family, but it’s back to the grind today.

Bonuses include the free cash (almost over) of $2 both today and yesterday, as well as a $1 deposit match bonus for FPPs.

Super tilty session today. Not only was I shot taking $0.02/0.05 short stack 6 max, I was running like absolute garbage. Sure, there were some calls I made that weren’t the best and some spots I missed value in, but I will share some of these lovely cooler/tilt hands with you. I looked these up in the equity calculator on PT4 and will be putting most of the equities in descriptions.

1) Preflop all in call against a guy who had been 3betting my PF raises a lot. He was SB, I was BB. I have JJ and he has AKs. He 3 bets my raise after limping, I 4 bet and he 5 bet jams. Obviously, I call. I am 53% favorite, so it’s a flip. Flop comes AQ2 and he stacks me.

2) I have KK vs JT in position. Standard preflop play, and it is heads up with me UTG and villain UTG+1. Flop T52 with 2 diamonds. I raise to half pot, villain jams, and I instacall happily as my equity is 81% vs his top pair. Turn is a blank and river is the T of clubs, giving him top set and leaving my cowboys jobless with no more stack to defend.

3) I have AdJc on flop of AcQcJs. Facing villain with a 68 VPIP after 45 hands. Flop checks through. Turn is 9h. I lead into him for half pot and he min 3 bets me. I call and river is 9s. I raise another half pot bet and he calls with 99. Nice cooler on the river hitting a 2 outer.

4) ATh vs villain with 8h8d. Another villain who has been playing too many hands and after 50+ hands his VPIP is over 50. Flop is 4hTs7c giving me top top with backdoor nut flush draw. I 3/4bet pot and he jams and I call. He shows the 8s, which gives us 86% to win. Turn is 9h, giving us 81% equity while improving to one from the nut flush. River is the 6c giving villain straight and leaving me stacked again.

5) I have ATc in BB facing BTN 3BB raise. This guy has a steal attempt of over 65, which is why I like playing this hand based on the high Ace with flush and straight draws. Flop Q49 with 2 clubs. I check he bets ˝ pot and I call. Turn is a blank – 3d. Check/check. River comes off with the 4c. I have the nut flush and bet 2/3 pot. He jams and I call. He rolls over QQ. My nut flush brings him the boat. Worst card in the deck for me to hit on the river. Any other club that doesn’t pair the board and I take it down. If I miss clubs I can just check/fold.

So, we have 5 coolers and 5 all in losses. I did manage to crack slow played aces on the river when my 44 made a set, though. Of course, villain only had 22 BB to start the hand, so it didn’t help me get out of the whole too much.

The last hand I played was probably the most tilting of all, though. I get dealt KK in BB and one player (villain in hand #4) makes a 3BB raise. It is folded to me and I make it 12BBs to go. He rearises to 30BBs, and as soon as my mouse is hovering over the call button, my ****ing computer spazzes out and starts making a crazy sound and shuts down saying it discovered a problem and needs to restart. I just yell **** and throw my mouse. It is okay, don’t worry.

I lose 15+ BBs on a hand that was guaranteed to be all in with me most likely as favorite against a monster fish. I tried turning it back on as soon as I could but the hand was over and I was sitting out. It was too tilting to keep playing since I have to go to work, anyways, but that could have been a huge win for me. So frustrating.

It’s really nice to have these bonuses right now during the cash game downswing. They are definitely helping to cushion the BR.

I plan to continue playing the short stack 6 max games at .02/.05. There were some serious fish who were playing any hands and jamming pre with hands like K2 offsuit and 97 suited, which is great. It would be even greater if my hands could hold up when I’m an 86% favorite, but you can’t win them all I guess. I am off tomorrow, but I have a lot to do outside of poker. I will try to play at least 500 hands of cash games or 5-10 SNGs, depending on what games are available.

I hope you guys are doing better today than I am, and I hope you don’t experience technical difficulties when you get dealt the best hand you’ve had all day after 300+ hands. Good luck out there everybody. Results down below.

Re: Moving Through The Micros

What’s up, everybody?

Hope you are all running well today. I have not really been having that lucky streak. I played some more $0.02/0.05 NLHE today. No short stack games were running, so I 2-tabled normal games. Did pretty well there with some sick river bluffs getting through and a nice set over set all in. Feels good booking a cash game win again!

I registered for a couple SNGs while playing cash and switched to those when they started up. My run good immediately broke as I lost to flopped/turned quads twice. Pretty disappointing and tilting. I mean quads one time is understandable, but twice in a row? Come on poker Gods. I played 5 SNGs 9max at the $1.50 + 0.15 buy in level, and lost 4 with one cash in 3rd place.

Here are the hands I busted out with:
1) A6s vs J9 with the runout of 7JJJ4. Unlucky bubble bust as short stack losing out on my 68% preflop advantage.

2) A5o vs K9o as short stack. Cashed this SNG, but with 58% PF edge I hoped it would hold. Instead, the runout came KK2K9. How do these quads keep destroying me?

3) Short stack with 7 opponents left. 3 way jam. I have AJc vs AKs vs AQo. Ace hits, but no jack falls.

4) Down to 6 BBs on the button, I jam into one player in BB with 78s vs A6off. I whiff and pack my bags.

5) Last one. AcTh vs JsJh. Runout of 4dQsTs, As, 5s. I think I have it on the turn with top two, even though I have to dodge 9 spades, 4 kings, and 2 jacks. I still have 69% on the turn, which evaporates when the flush hits. Unfortunate.

ACR bonus today was $2.

Overall, we have hit the $150 BR mark, which is a great feeling! Slowly but surely we are getting up there. It’s hard not to be results oriented in financial challenges like this, especially on run bad days like yesterday. Sometimes, you lose the 70% favorite hands. That’s poker. The best way I know of to avoid tilt is to laugh at the donks who ship crazy hands and hope they are in your next game. Also, I find solace in knowing I played most of my hands correctly. As long as you make the right decision (which isn’t always the case) you can walk away knowing you did what you are supposed to do to be profitable in the long run.

Thanks for reading! Results will be down below. I work tomorrow, but will probably be playing some more cash games when I get off for a little bit. Run hot, guys!

Cash Game Session 19 Results:
Win/Loss: +$8.05
Hands: 159

"Also, I find solace in knowing I played most of my hands correctly. As long as you make the right decision (which isn’t always the case) you can walk away knowing you did what you are supposed to do to be profitable in the long run. "

100% true. I started bouncing spots off friends in a group chat just to make sure I didnt miss anything obvious.

That's a great idea! I don't have many friends who play play poker, but the equity calculator on PT4 has really helped me analyze these situations. Highly recommend for those without a group chat, but I think getting different perspectives like you are is extremely beneficial for many reasons.

Best of luck. FRGs on ACR are much softer than 6 max at 2NL. If you play a decent amount of PLO, I am sure we have sat at the same table.

I bet we have!

I'm unfamiliar with the term FRG. Is that frequent reward grinders?

Re: Moving Through The Micros

Hey, guys,

Weird day for sure. I actually got off work today since they were cutting, which was great since I could just play poker all day. Unfortunately, my luck was gone after that. Played about 500 cash hands at $0.02/0.05 NLHE and got wrecked. I played pretty tight the whole time, but it was just sick coolers after another. Here are the biggest pots I played that resulted in losses:

1) My AKo vs KJs all in pre. 69% favorite. Flop comes KQJ and that’s all she wrote.
2) My KQ on Qd5s3d?dTh. PF I raised 3BB and get min 3Bet by BB and call. Heads up on the flop, I lead into UTG from BB, and get a call. We are 77% on the flop. Turn is random diamond. Check/check. River T. He leads out for about 10 BB. Could have missed A4, A2, 67s, AK, or big diamond miss. I call and he shows T3 off. WTF!
3) UTG with AKh heads up pre with BB who 3 bets me and I 4 bet and they jam with Aces. Hit a king but not a winner.
4) AQs vs 77 pre on runout of J73AJ. 49% pre so we flip and I brick.
5) TT vs KK and a loss.
6) Ah4h vs AQ all in on river with runout of Ad2hQh5d4s

When I got stacked by ten three off I was pretty tilted and started playing really aggressively, which was definitely not ideal. I was picking up blinds left and rights, but I had trouble with one player who would 3 bet me every time he was on the button and I was high jack with a PF raise. I tightened up, but still was getting beat down. He stacked me with hand #4 above. I jammed since he was 3 betting literally every hand I was raising for about 5-6 PF raises in a row. Unfortunate. I did stack him off with my favorite hand, AJd, but he got the best of me.

After cash I figured out I wouldn’t have to work, so I went and regged some $3.30 BI 1k+ GTD tournaments. Not the ideal BRM set since I think you’re supposed to have 100 BIs for tourneys, but I wanted to play a couple so I did. Busted in level 9 (12 levels of late reg). Made it pretty deep in late reg, but busted out of the money on my second bullet. Played another one and busted early as the short stack. Those hands are below in order:
1) AKc vs K8d pre all in with flop 8hKs7s and no help. 76% preflop advantage for me.
2) QQ vs AKoff with K on flop. 57% preflop advantage for me.
3) This one was just a cooler to the fullest. Folded to villain on BTN who has attempt to steal above 50. He makes it 4 BB and I have 16 left with KQ. I call looking to jam any pair or low board. Flop KKA. I insta jam and he slow rolls me down to 3 sec. on his time bank of 1 min and calls with AA. Brutal.

Free cash today was $2.

Not a great day for poker here. I decided to play some jackpots since I didn’t want to sit around for 5 more hours playing a tournament. Just some $2 jackpots to keep the grind alive. Some really weird ***** was going on there. I won my first two spins, which were $8 tables. Lost 4 in a row after that on just plain stupid runouts. I have AToff heads up vs K3 and I flop a T and he rivers a K. Next, AJd vs 22 and he hits a set on the river after the ace on the turn. A9 vs J9 can’t hold, and my 84 vs 82 on flop of 863 screws me over with the 2 on the river. In one of these, I was 3-1 chip leader heads up. A guy just kept catching cards on the river. For example, he jams pretty much every button. This is the guy above who jammed K3 and I lost with AT. He jammed 67 and I called with 97 when he only had 2 BBs left and caught the 6 on the river.

Switched over and played some short stack $0.01/0.02 PLO since I was playing every game type anyways. There was only one short stack game running at this stake and none at $0.02/0.05, so I just hopped in. Did alright, kind of ran hot at the start and then just nothing for a couple hours. Positive on the day for PLO, but I did lose a bit with the A high flush vs a straight flush, which has actually happened quite a bit recently.

Not sure about redepositing to make up for the tourneys or not. I most likely won’t since I want to do this on one deposit. Also, I probably would have played a couple SNG 2.0s instead of tourneys, but the wait time there was going at 11 minutes per, so I just decided on the tournaments. A lot more variance, but fun when you’re running well.

Hope everybody did a bit better than me today. Results below!

Win/Loss: +$1.51 Omaha, -$17.04 NL

Some pretty good PLO action this morning.

Were you the short stack to my left that 4b shoved 50 BB with KJ75 when I had AQQT?
