A miracle comeback - Time to fight back (PLO)!

Short story:
- 40 years old
- Started playing poker 2007. I was for 3 years rakeback pro and than give up on this game.
- day job
- Now playing most PLO for fun and was losing about 15k to 20k over the last 5 years online (most small stakes)
- No BRM, no tiltcontroll, no clue how to win, small gambling issue
- but my dream was to show one day a nice winning graph for more than 100k hands. I never give up on this dream...

Rocky Balboa was my motivation:

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!"

Now the time has come to comecack and fight back. Enough punishment, enough pain, just enough losing.

Here is my graph of my 20k hands this months (playing GGpoker)
This is my first winning graph in the last 5 years
I am playing PLO100 atm.

Re: A miracle comeback - Time to fight back (PLO)!

Thank you guys for follow me.
Update the last 2 days: break even but manged to come back from tilt and play strong today morning!
That is huge for me!
Yestarday was one of my first tilting session this month (I lost control and lost few buy ins). BUT is still better than in the last few years, where I tilted much more often.

There are few things, I have changed overall in my game:

1. Better hand selection preflop. That was my biggest leak in this game.
I play better hands now. More connected, better suited, higher cards to make better straights or make better pairs. I fold now much more crappy hands than in the past.

2. I play better in position. That was my second biggest leak in this game. To know position is one of the most important things, you can have in this game. Also I have figured out than c-bet is a very important thing in Omaha. My guess: c-bet is a little underestimated.

3. I am folding more hands oop and folding more to 3 bets, if I am oop and have the position disadvantage. In position I play more agressiv in 3 bet pots.

4. Overall my A-game is much better than ever. Have better reads and more understanding of board texture and how it change during the hand and what it means for my range and for my opponent range. I make some good calls and pick more bluffs from some tricky opponents.

5. I am willing to learn and to understand better the complexity of the PLO game.
I read Jeff Hwang book (Vol. 1 small ball). In his book he explains very good some situations and I can better integreate some of his advice into my game now.

6. Still have to adjust to some better regs. I got smashed in some situation. But i know now what went wrong and I can learn from my mistakes better.

My graph for today:

In for the PLO madness as I just transitioned myself, gl!

I guess you're aware of this but, these graphs does not include rake paid and as rake is uncapped at GG PLO if I'm not mistaken, you might not even be winning in the graphs posted (I hope you are!). Better posting us bankroll updates to see how you're doing
Would be interesting to see if the rake can even be beaten.

I just let this guy bet into me with his hand and that's all .
Omaha can be easy sometimes but it's definitely not.
The site I play now is much softer that partypoker or stars, so I can focus on weaker opponents and try to avoid some good regs or try not to get much exploited in some spots.

What I have figured out the last days, since I am playing much better starting hands preflop:
The powerfulness of a strong Omaha hand..I never get to this but thats the key of my new mindset and approch to the game right now:
If I have a strong connected hand and the flop is my favour, I am in much better shape than with some crapy hands...Take me a long time to get this into my head!!

BR is right now 1950$

Re: A miracle comeback - Time to fight back (PLO)!

After two days of some bad play and a little gambling but still break even
(that means a lot for me), today a very solid session with focus on late position play and 3 bet pots.
2.5 buy ins up (+255$)

2 hands I will show you and explain alittle bit how I played it.

1st hand:
KQQJds in BB. (the power of a draw in Omaha)
3 bet oop is standard with this hand.
Flop: c-bet is also standard. I can rep some of my 3-betting range there and have some backdoor outs to going for a second barell there.
Turn: I got some of my backdoor outs and can bet it again!
River: boom. Put villian all in and take a beautiful pot!

Poker Hand #OM181223110: Omaha Pot Limit ($0.5/$1) - 2020/04/12 13:58:27

*** SHOWDOWN ***
Hero collected $181.6 from pot

2nd hand (the power of position!)
K436ds from BNT.

I open from the button with a minraise, which I prefer sometimes.
I mix it here a little bit, depends who is sitting in the blinds.
SB 3-bets and I call.
Flop: I got the top and bottom pair which is not super great but is not that bad at all in a HU situation. Villian bets and I call. In position this is a standard call on this kind of draw heavy flop. In position I can see a turn card and I can see what villian is doing on turn.
On this flop I put villian on some kind of draw and some hit like AKxx, AQTx...
Turn: Villian checks, I got a nice str8 draw. With my two pairs I have a strong hand now and a lot of equity. I am going for pot here could bet a little bit less but I guess it is ok. Villian check/shoving and I call.
With his holding it was exactly 50/50 on the turn. So basically a coin flip.
I run it once, and I won.

Poker Hand #OM181207734: Omaha Pot Limit ($0.5/$1) - 2020/04/12 14:12:03

Zarahustra5
Update:
Didn't play well the last couple of Sessions. And drop down 5 buy ins. Got some tough spots, get unlucky and was tilting a little bit. Have to cash in more money to play with 40 buy ins.
I have bought the new version of HM and put all my hands there. Unfortunately the import process has some leaks, so not all my hands are now in my datebase. Andthe graph is without rake.
But I am still up for this month. Maybe about 1k.
So that is great so far.
Will make a break and go through my hands and my stats and watch some videos.

Re: A miracle comeback - Time to fight back (PLO)!

Take a break from playing feels good. I am going right now throught some stats in HM3.
And there is one big leak, I have found in my game very quickly: MP.
I am playing 22VPIP from this position, so I think this is ok, but there must be somethings wrong with my starting hands there or with my play. Compared to other position like CO or BTN, I am not winning much from this position..Try to figure out why...
Another leak I found also quickly: I am coldcalling to much from CO vs. EP and MP opening.
So, If I start playing tomorrow again or this weekend, I try to focus on these two things. Its better to focus only on few things and fix them, than try to get better at everything.
HM is a nice tool to have, it helps me alot to improve and to find some leaks very quickly.
I am not a fun of GTO, but if I want improve my game, I have to think about the right way to play hands and to select hands from every position.

Here some hands from this afternoon:

Hand 1: UTG open is a little loose but flop is well enough. My play was a little bit uncoventional not to c-bet this flop, but it works fine to get my stack here on the turn in good shape.

            Thank you!
H1 was too loose, you are right but I am a bit of a "feelingplayer" and some hands feel sometimes too good to fold
I started this month with just only 5 buy ins to be honest and went on a heater since than
A solid BRM was never my stronges part of the game, but I am working on this too...
Will cash in next month some more buy ins, too play with a solid 40 buy in roll..

                              Hi guys,
This weekend was terrible for me. Unfortunately had some bad run there BUT also some setbacks, which I thought I had mastered now. The realiity is, I still can't control tilt.
Poker is from psychological point of view the hardest thing for me in my whole life.
If I can't play my A-game, I am just a terrible gambler and I am throwing my money away...
In only two sessions I have lost almost my whole winnings from this month and have crushed 2/3 of my small bankroll.
Here my graph from all hands seince my comeback. (On GGpoker I have paid about 20bb/100 rake so is about 3k over 30k hands)

                              two session tilt: -1700$
                              month winnings: 300$
                              BR: 870$
I will take a break now and try a new comeback again soon!

I just wanted to post to show some support and I hope in the future (as long as you're not at my table) you can take breaks before you tilt that bad.

                              good luck

Kudos to you for being honest about it, but I think you´re just playing waaaay to high given your skill level so this had to happen no matter what.

You should probably quit while you´re ahead or play much, much lower.

Not sure about "tilt" though, maybe you just ran super hot and variance caught up with you?

Try to figure out what is the real problem of my tilt.
I have ordered Tendlers book "the mental game of poker".
There must be a way, I can overcome my biggest enemy.
If I play my A-Game, I can beat PLO100 for sure..
I will cash in to play with a bigger BR.
Is just the problem: to stop playing, if I am feeling some emotions..
                              Its all about emotions..
What I know: There is some unconsciously trigger what bring me out of line..
I can play 10 very good sessions in a row, winning, crushing the competition but than there is just ONE day I am afraid of..
                              I will be back!

This is actually the worst possible thing you could do right now. I´ve been there before and nothing good will ever come from this.

Just keep on playing with what you´ve deposited/won so far. You´re probably just not good enough if you can´t make it work with your current bankroll.
