If you are willing to completely isolate yourself so as your one focus for an entire year is poker why on earth would you choose to try and make $1m in the most stressful and retarded way possible. This guy already has a large bankroll to begin with (someone mentioned in the region of 60-150k) and if he's genuinely looking to play 10-12 hours everyday i don't see how it makes more sense to do what he's doing instead of actually playing and studying cash games. It doesn't really matter though because this challenge has a 0% chance of being achieved anyway and OP will probably die during it due to exhaustion and mental stress. GL OP.

Maybe most people would collapse under this stress, but they clearly underestimate Alex.

One of my favorite Awice stories goes back to 2006 before either of us were that serious about poker. We were both in first year math at the University of Waterloo. Our school had advanced classes for calculus and algebra which we were both enrolled in- during these classes far less people surf the internet/**** around than in most university classes since they move pretty quickly and it was the first time in my life I ever found myself falling behind in a math class.

Back in these days, no one played more than like 8 tables- rainkhan had to send in a video of himself like 30 tabling since even poker stars didn't believe someone could play that many tables.

Anyways, in this lecture hall of ~80 students writing as quick as they can to keep up with the professor, theres Awice in the middle of the room- 24 tabling SNGs on his laptop, with his right hand, while practicing for the highest level of para para paradise(an arcade game like DDR where you wave your hands under sensors) with his left hand, all while absorbing more information in the lecture than me and most of the other students. I think his abilities for multi-tasking and making extremely quick decisions are almost second to none.

You got this Alex!

Don't get me wrong I'm not hating and like seeing goals reached just as much as the next guy but this has just gotta be so brutal in so many ways...

Best of luck though OP, I really want to see you achieve what you have set out to, I just worry!
But he's not 50 tabling, he only did that to win the race for SN, and I'm sure his edge at that time was super bad. He's already said that he will be playing on average around 24 tables.

So the recap is:

24 tables
8-10 hours a day
100s and 200s

This is difficult sure, but not mind blowing from a grinding standpoint. What makes this ridiculous is doing this while trying to not lose your shirt in the process. I recognize this as an incredible feat, but I'm tired of seeing people act like he's gonna be some zombie playing for 16 hours and day with 50 tables because it's just not an accurate representation of what is happening.

Re: #MillionClub - It ain't cheese if it's less than a mil'

Alex,

First off I want to say that I wish you all the good fortune in the world with this challenge. I have to agree with some of the others and say that I think it is insane and you are putting yourself under way too much pressure mentally and physically for the goal. With that being said, I am still rooting for you to make it happen.

A question I have though that I have not seen asked/answered in the thread yet (even though I haven't read the entire thread) is this. How are you going to remain a contributing part of the company that you work for during the next year? From what I can see, your ultimate goal is to make a million in order to help the business that you are in. But taking this much time to focus on poker, logically you will not have much time to devote to the development of the company. Just something I was wondering about and if it has already been asked/answered somewhere amongst the haters in the thread then just ignore me.

Thanks.

What a BOSS. haha, Respect Alex! F the haters. I hope you aren't paying any heed to them at all. Obv you've done all ur groundwork for this. Its obv as hell this is gonna be ridic hard and he's trying to do something unique, diff and not attempted. Don't see why every other poster has to talk about the difficulty of this task and the likelihood of him finishing it. Why make it harder on someone who's attempting something as monumental as this?

Why automatically give respect to someone who's trying a task like this? There's a reason no one else is trying to do it and that's because of how f***ing stupid/unhealthy/depressing it is. Anyone with any sense would go about it a different way, the isolation and all that BS is just laughable.

OP already has a significant bankroll with which he could make alot of $ this year without doing it in such an extreme fashion. To me it's like when those guy's stick their hands in a crocodiles mouth, a part of me wants them to get their hand eaten because it shouldn't have f***ing been there in the first place. I wouldn't applaud them for pulling off such a moronic feat and i/you shouldn't applaud OP for doing the same imo. But I couldn't care less how he goes about it, his life to waste and all that. Hope the $1m is worth it if you make it. GL OP

And btw will people stop crying when OP gets criticized, he put the challenge on a forum in which it is gonna come under scrutiny.

I don't know about anyone else, but my reaction when I came into this thread was "oh, wow, AWice going for 8M VPP, that's pretty sick. GL, hope he does it".

Now, after reading some of the terrible posting ITT, I'm checking it every few hours thinking "GOOOOOOO AWICE, ****in ship it man, VAMOOOOOOOOOO" as if I had 50% of him or something.

Some seriously ****ing pathetic people ITT trying to **** on other people's life goals.

i could be way off on this, but to chase 8m vpps in the year seems a bad business decision by pokerstars to allow this, i understand its alex's decision to do it, but im sure may sne would be able to tell stories about how stressful mentally and physically it is just to obtain 1m vpps. Pokerstars legally might not have a duty of care to alex but i think id rather then see step in here in this situation rather then let someone potentially do perm damage to themselves in order to gain the goal they have set out.

Though to Alex, hope you get there and remain stable along the way, wouldnt want someone that can give alot to the poker wold to end up in hospital because you set the bar far too high.

Why does everyone think he's gonna kill himself or something? He said he's gonna be playing 8-10 hours a day, which is basically exactly what every other grinder does.

The real difference is how many tables he's playing, how many clicks per second, stress on his brain, things like that, over those specific 8-10 hour periods. It's far, far, far more likely that he'll either a) not be able to obtain a high enough winrate to make the challenge worthwhile, or b) simply burn out in like August and have to take time off, which will cost him the challenge.

Having said that, I still think he's >50% to get it done, and it's utterly ludicrous to suggest that Stars should stop him from trying.

most sne grinders dont play 7 days a week for 8-10 hrs a day to begin with, unless they rushing at the end of the year to get there.

at times ive seen him 12 tabling hypers, and from experience in playing the 7/15 6m hypers, it start to fiz your brain and slow your reaction time after playing for 4+hrs non stop.

and how is it ludicrous to suggest what i wrote, he is a valuable asset to pokerstars, his mindset and mental health should be their number 1 concern when it comes to attempting something that no one has ever got near.
