Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

I played a lot of PLO. About 2-3 years of my +8 years amateur poker player career was dedicated to the great game of Pot Limit Omaha. I switched from NL cash gmaes just in right time. At that moment I was kinda bored with NL; few years of grinding it without spectacular results and I needed a new stimulus to play more poker.

The popularity of PLO was growing, games were really easy, nobody know how to play. High variance, high action. Lets jump into this craziness. I had an access to some old Phil Galfond videos from Blue Fire Poker. OMG I was so smart. Things were going really well.

I relatively quickly built my PLO bankroll playing over couple of sites. I enjoyed mostly stars, but played a lot at IPoker with some good rb deal and on microgaming. After half a year I was moving back and forth between PLO100-200 and sometimes shoot PLO400/500. It was ZOOM200 where I really suffered a lot. Couldn't get a solid results there. Lot of variance was0 destroying my mindset. The nervewrecking period in my PLO career was definitely for over a year and I couldn't escape it. Rebuilt on lower stakes, shoot at 200z, get destroyed, FML.

But I do not give up that easily. I still enjoyed the journey. I love the game.

Eventually, I'm pretty sure I could beat it but...
...unfortunately, a lot of bad things happened to online poker (in general) in the few consecutive years. Black Friday, less and less free money on the tables, high rakeback on PLO, removing SNE on stars. That last point was probably the most important factor I have decided to switch back to NL. I was preparing for PLO500 zoom as I wanted to grind SNE there. An ultimate dream of pokerstars grinder. And PLO zoom was quite good option if you want to achieve SNE. Damn.

Eventually, after long thinking through, I've decided to return to NL. Playing a cash games in no-limit I get skills that allow me to play MTTs as well. There are more games, more rec players, more sites, more possibilities. It looks like there will be always good NL both live and online. New players usually start their adventure in NL. Look at the lobby. The money goes from lower stakes to higher. Compare sizes of ZOOM pools in PLO and NL. Maybe that is not the good enough reasoning, but I had to take a choice and stick to it.

Decided to go No Limit Holdem.

I play PLO from time to time; more for fun obviously, as I don't do any PLOLab work. Recently had a trip to Germany. I had my laptop which is not good for grinding poker online. Small screen, no HM2 etc. So I played few hours of low stakes PLO instead of regular NL grind and it was really nice. I still love this game. It is sad to see the small number of PLO tables at stars compared to what I remember, when the PLO was red hot

And now, one of the PLO endbosses shows his graph:
https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/s...ostcount=23550

Damn. I want one tenth of these results. Insane bb/100h. Probably not possible to get this in online NL, but I might be wrong. When I see this, I want to jump back into PLO, although I feel it is not 100% good idea. I should stick to one game, excel it and then maybe I can play around...

Quote:
what's seen cannot be unseen
This graph gonna tilt me (and I hope inspire as well) for quite some time I need to find some good NL achievements to take my mind of the PLO.

Great job, cumicom.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Well, that escalated quickly. 4 days of good results; 1 day to destroy it.

Fortunately, I managed to do a small comeback. However I will probably book this month as a losing one. Unless I hit a miracle...

Three bad things happened in one day and it somehow lead me to gamble on higher stakes again This should not happen. Especially, not that often. Hard to build a roll (and pro poker career) if I burn money every single week.

The good side of blogging is that I can read it now, check my past/recent results and thoughts. There is no question about it; me attacking mindlessly higher stakes when the mindset is bad is a big issue for my poker situation. Time to act accordingly and use the table restriction.

Go to your client Tools->Responsible Gaming-> Restrict Table Limit.

Seriously.

This is the best poker decision I'm going to make today.

I have always thought it is an option for weak people. You should not play higher - that's all. And I still agree with that. It is me, weak right now in this part of my poker skill set and I see no other option to combat this ugly temptation.

Quote:
No shame in folding.
Dear reader, please don't follow my solution You don't have to consider this option at all. I'm just a pussy, you are not. You are the best. You can beat the game. Go higher, gamble, win. No gamble, no future! Right? Think about Durrrr, Ivey, Isildur1...They would never click into this option.

Ok, so I restrict myself to the limits where I have a solid winrate on a solid sample and I want to keep it probably till end of the month. Although if I keep my winrate and solid volume, I might attack 50z near the Christmas time. And you know that the tables are red hot near the EOY.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Second month of the blog time for a short summary.
I think I'm blogging with satisfactory consistency. There is still a lot of work to improve my posts quality, variety, value of content and many others. I will do my best to improve those aspects. All suggestions and feedback are welcome; but no promises guaranteed.

The poker results from November:

In BB's my graph is cool. Moneywise I lost some. One ugly tilt less and I'd breakevenish. Woulda coulda....blablabla.

Let's rock in December.

So what is the plan now? I restrict myself from higher tables. And as I see today, there is no more cardmatch. Definitely going for this promo was bad idea. Kept getting 2$ all the time. I remember in past I had way better run conserning this promo. Well now it doesnt matter. Solid ZOOM grind is planned in range of NL10-NL25.

Most important point planned for December. There gonna be GOOT (girlfriend out of town) week (second week of Dec.) and I have holidays. So I plan mega solid 16h/day; 7 days/week grind. In past it usually didn't work well for me. Tried it about 4-5 times and always these were loosing grinds. Doesn't stop me from trying again anyway. I have to plan it a little bit better than previously.

First of all, I want to try out a new sleep schedule following Tim Ferris advices for polyphasic sleep. I had periods when I was doing a 6h core sleep + 30min power nap in the midday. Worked pretty well for me. Now I want to go one step harder at least. Don't remember now how the schedules looked like exactly. You can check 4 hour body book.

I plan the grind on stakes that I beat. I have stakes restriction, so there is no worries that I gonna tilt and chase losses higher. I have solid 6bb/100h, so I hope even playing my B game, I can float long sessions around 2-3bb/100h.

Lot of coffee, tea and herbs. Nothing stronger or illegall. Some chillout in the night with red wine. Fridge is full of great italian food. Couple of movies that I missed in cinema planned as a relax time as well.

Will post all the results here.

So there is exactly one more week for preparation (cooking and shopping). Tomorrow, I'm going for party hard, so rest of the weekend there is no grind, just laying down on the floor hangover af.

Little bit of good run and solid mindset and I might get a nice presents from the Santa.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Finally dealt with massive 2-day hangover. Sauna definitely helped a lot. Now it's time to grind. The plan for incoming days is moderate grind + some work off the table - mainly RIO videos. Currently I'm alternating between Elusive Mark and innerpsy videos. Friday is the day - I start a poker lock down and run a 1 week solid grind.

1. The most important thing - play on the limit, where I have confirmed solid winrate.

2. Change sleep schedule. I want to exploit polyphasic sleep for about 10 days. I want to grind 12+ h/day. Preferably 4 sessions x 4 hours a day. So if I have about 6h or less for sleep - it is possible. I already successfully enjoyed siesta which is 6.3h total sleep per day. I want to aim for 4h sleep total: 3h core sleep and 3 x 20min naps. If this schedule won't work for me, I'm back to siesta.

3. Only grind, no work off the tables.

4. Print money???

I will share my graph from the whole challenge as well as some general thoughts. I'm not sure how much I post during that week. Probably will stick to some short updates as I expect I will hate my screen, chair and poker and every break AFK is really precious.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Two days left to my hardcore grind mode for one week and I'm really concerned if I can make it.

Recently, Kevin Martin, who twitches nice MTTs here, had a 10 day challenge together with his friend. The idea was to play MTTs and stream 10 consecutive days, switching the player back and forth every +/- 12h.

I was following the stream from time to time, unfortunately this happened
Quote:
Kevin Martin‏ @KevinRobMartin
Dec 2

We’ve stopped the stream at 115 hours. Gg guys.
Looks like playing 12h a day of poker, 5 days in a row is really tough. And my optimistic idea was to play more than 12h per day 9 days in a row. Sick. Not to mention how more exhausting is 4 tabling cash game on Zoom compared to MTTs.

I don't want to play at all cost. It is not a challenge with some side money on the line and I know I should not take any really -EV decisions right now. I feel that in my case, the sleep schedule might be the main issue. Should be able to smoothly go with Siesta (6h core sleep + one power nap during day). But then I have time for 3x 4h session (or 4x3h). Not sure how I will adapt to more rigorous schedule with more naps and shorter core sleep. My idea right now is to, at least try it. I will give myself 2-3 attempts to follow this schedule and grind as much as I can. If I won't feel brain fog or seriously sleep deprived I will keep pushing further.

Then it is very likely that after 4-5 days of such a massive grind I will refuse to sit behind the tables. If my physical and sleep conditions would be good, I think I will go for a short break from the tables, but will keep the sleep pattern and restart after a day.

Sounds good and I really don't want to give up, but on the other side... slower pace might be more EV+ for me than adding 3-4h of grind a day which gonna make me feel bad and unhappy.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

About to start my grindweek.

In my typical style I lost a ton of BIs yesterday. First losing day in December but I'm still up for the month, so I can't complain. Not funny thou as I had a ton of great spots with one big whale and he kept hitting all the nuts on the river. Standard poker stuff

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

First day finished. Played 2 sessions accordingly to plan. Solid beating the first half, then epic comeback and finished with small profit.

Made lot of mistakes obviously, but after some grind I was more careful about the standard one. Tomorrow, I might play little bit lower. Depending how I feel about it. And definitely want to break 10k hands mark per day.

Right now, my concern regarding the long grind is my back, as last two hour were pretty uncomfortable. Will add more breaks and excercises tomorrow.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Good morning and welcome to Day 2.

Slept about 6h. Would prefer only 4h, but I knew it won't be easy to jump right into nap man. Feeling really good thou, happy to start a new session today.

Right now, I'm finishing a breakfast, then coffee then session. Dinner break, nap, session, movie, session.

Let's go!

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Done for today. I managed to produce really nice giraffe.

Yesterday there was more hands. And I mentioned I want to break 10k today. Well that is the biggest fail for today, but the results are so good I can get over it.

Actually I played more hands than there are on the graph. How is it? Well, I was a little bit bored in the evening. I have already two short zoom sessions done with nice result and I decided to play some MTTs for a change. Played like 20ish, mincashed in 2 and that was super boring waste of time and money. Cash games are so more intense and pleasurable. I can feel some cool aspects of MTTs, emotions, bubble, final tables... I want it really hard. But most time you fold or have relatively simple preflop decisions. Hard to compare to amount of decisions you have in the same time 4 tabling zoom cash game.

Anyway, I will keep running this evening MTT sessions, just for something different. Especially in a day, where I play 4 sessions.

I'm still nowhere with my sleep schedule. Right now I feel really good and could grind more but should go to sleep. Will drink some red wine and then get tired. But I'm afraid I will oversleep again. Managed to get one power nap during day and there was no need or feeling to fit another one. I must go quite hardcore, let myself for really short core sleep - probably for like 4h, then wake up and back to grind. We will see.

So, tomorrow is Sunday. I might play more MTTs. Early morning I will play cash. Then I think I will split MTTs in two sesh. One will be right after lunch, then second in the evening. If I finish early - cash games till late night hours. And it would be perfect if I can force myself to two naps during day.

Oh, and so far December looks great on the monthly graph. I hope I will continue this direction. It will be first month I'm blogging here, with positive result. What a great end of 2017 and start 2018 that might be.

Well, just jinxed myself and gonna tilt and lose BR during Xmas...

...good that I excluded myself from HS

Edited/cut all instances of 'probably'. Now it's (...) way better. Sorry about that.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Great. It is Day 3.

Slept accordingly only 4h. I am officially on the real attempt to achieve nap-man. Right now feeling great, finishing my breakfast and preparing a solid coffee. Then right of to a cash game grind. The plan is to do a two naps during a day. Otherwise, I gonna crash and oversleep and my sleep pattern would be really messed.

As it is Sunday, I will play two MTTs session on micros. This second half of a 2017 I played like 100 tournies (I know, small sample) and have only mincashes. Nowhere near the good old win from the past. But I need to keep trying. There is another bink somewhere there behind the corner.

Vamooooo

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

OMG.

Sick day. But finally (and a little bit early) I close it for today. Tomorrow, there is always another hand.

Tough, tough grind. Please take a look at daily graph.

It's my third day in a row. Today I played over 10k hands and total 777 minutes which is I don't know how many hours because my mind is fried.

Satisfying comeback thou. Had few moments of really bad play. Could be a better result but... sometimes we play B game, right?

Had 2 naps during day. I dont know if now I'm feeling good/bad/tired? For sure I'm kinda confused. Maybe because of this sleeping pattern, maybe too much poker. Now I will chill for few more hours and then sleep.

Did I mention the give... wait, its not my quote. Did I mention how I'm happy with such a solid grind and comeback?

Moreover, I did not play any MTT today. Was so focused and motivated to grind. Good, good, good...

Tomorrow I will try to grind less, maybe also on lower stakes. Monday is probably less rec filled especially during daytime. Haven't watch a movie today, just pure grind, 2 naps and food. So tomorrow for sure I will add movie to occupy my mind with something other then fold button.

Zoom out

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Day 4.

Bad beat Monday.

Slept about 5h core sleep so I'm probably between siesta and 2-nap mode. Feeling pretty good. Let's continue with this. I hope I won't pass out or black out at one point...

...unfortunately one of my LCD screen died And it was the main sreen, as on the side I have a small one for a lobby, HM and other stuff. Borrowed in hurry a screen from other computer but this is definitely temporary solution.

Checked few forums and it is very likely capacitors are bad or inverter. When I turn on the screen, it shows the system desktop for 2 seconds and then turns it off. I have a friend who knows a lot of IT staff, so I will contact him and ask if I should buy a new screen or is it worth to try and fix it.

So I already lost like 2h of grind because of that. Finishing my breakfast and lets jump into the action. Simple plan for today:

- grind small stakes zoom (I aim at about 5-7k hands)
- 2 naps
- movie
- no MTTs
- more excercises

Let's go with the flow.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

End of day 4.

Super tilted on one side, and happy on the other.
Did everything according to the plan. Watched a movie, lot of hands, no MTTs, naps, etc.

Broken LCD keeps messing my mindset for the whole day; moreover ev decided to fcuk me even harder.

Standard 10bi under ev in session. So far this line in my challenge look really bad.

Super tired so I go for a wine and then bed.

Hope that tomorrow Il finally run reasonably and bring some profits.

Salute

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

...too much wine. What a headache.

Day 5. I don't like you. Probably combination of wine and going to sleep too late made my headache this morning. Let's see if coffee helps or not.

Starting the grind soon. I'm going to have an easier day, today - maybe like 5k hands. But is is possible, that I will get triggered and grind super hard in case of another comeback necessity.

It's middle of the challenge and I already have some interesting thoughts and ideas for future grind and poker in general. When I finish my hardcore grind (about Sunday) I will definitely write some of my main conclusions.

Now it is time for a big cup of hot coffee.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

What a day that was...

Relatively quickly managed to deal with headache. I almost never use painkillers and havent take them this time too. Coffee and a lot of water finally helped. Grind was not so good thou. Finished in the green but it is only EV that did a good job today.

Yes, it happened to me. I'm running well over EV. Can't complain I'm always under.

I had few moments of very bad play. It wasn't B game, more like D. I quickly identified my leaks and it helped a lot, but still I couldn't bring EV line to break even. Had some lucky allin spots, but really unlucky on the river when I was sucked out in big pots. Still there were 2 or 3 stacks super-easy to safe in bankroll but I decided to spew them away.

Watched a movie and some twitch poker for relax. Had one nap. Feeling really good. To be honest I'm surprised I'm doing so well in my challenge/mission to grind like that. First of all, I'm happy to sit and grind a lot. It is fifth consecutive day and I'm very much motivated. Second points, is that this 2-nap sleep schedule so far works really good for me. It is written that after a week or two I should adapt even better. I know I felt a little bit blurry and zombie like during day 1 and 2, but now I'm pretty good. It is still strange feeling that days are so long and there is so much grind and stuff I do, the feeling that I have so much existence in a conscious state. There is something really fascinating and powerful about it. Finally, the results are quite good. I could do better. I know it. But still.... in previous attempts I usually failed pretty hard, tilted a lot and lost a tons of money. Now, at the half-time, things looking pretty green

Few more days to go, hope not to screw this.

Oh, and there was nice bonus from P* today. My new chest record:

Now I will finish another wine bottle and tomorrow I will suffer one more time.

Gnite

Welcome, welcome Day 6.

Short update. No headache. Feeling a little bit low energetic right now. I bet it is because yesterday I did only one nap, while tonight core sleep is 4h. So it seems to be very important to keep those 2 naps during a daytime. That is the main aim for today - take two naps and grind for the rest of time. Tough mission

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

!yesterday

Yesterday things eventually broke bad. Was so tired I could not report yesterday, sorry bout that.

So, the graph and result is actually damn pretty good:

but it cost me a lot. And things didn't go according to plan.

The first part of the day was okish. I grinded the first 4k hands bouncing on the break even line. The first planned nap kinda killed me. It was a trap.
Forgot to put on a clock; and as all previous nap I easily woke up after 20-30min by myself without an alarm clock, this time I didn't.

So I slept for about 2h and after that, still felt groggy, and of course the schedule got messed quite a bit. Then as a warmup I decided to watch some twitch and found myself a bottle of wine. Fun part of a day, but wasted too much time and energy. Drink probably a little too much but decided to jump back on the grind. And the next 2k hands (from 4k to 6k) where reaaaalllllyyy bad. I could avoid it and not play atm. Was so titled and pissed off. Every suckout and lost pot hurt with double intensity. Down to -200$ I told myself I gonna grind really hard and the plan was to go to the bright (I mean green) side. Fortunately, the comeback mode come in (or probably the coffee start to win agaist the wine) and about 5am I finished in the profitville. Ufff...needed 45 more minutes with some herbs before went to sleep.

...and now it is Day 7.

Sleep was meh. Feeling not so energetic and focused at the moment. Will slowly start the grind anyway. No twitch today, just 1 movie in the middle of the day. Not sure if I can keep up today with 2-naps, probably will end up with one nap and then a longer 6h core sleep. It is definitely not good for me to jump back and forth between two sleeping schedules but well.... I'm still a sleep-fish and was prepared that the plan will fail here or there.

Eventually, nothing really bad happened. Did not lost my bankroll, did not make an ugly tattoo when drunk... but it is always little bit uncomfortable feeling inside, when I screw even small things because of such weaknesses.

Let's rock today!

Not really. FAIL one more time. Run today into a stupid pokerstars promo. The prize was pretty nice and the challenge was to win two 180 man s&g. Decided to go for it. One day of a break from cash games after such massive grind might be handy, right?

I planned rest day to be able to grind as much as possible. Ate early dinner before the promo was active and then started opening all 180man sngs. Quickly realized that the best strategy is to play only 1$ hypers - most people played it and it was opening every other minute. I guess the skill level was quite high, met some regs from my stakes, from HS, and I don't know the sng grinders but can imagine they also sit there. At the beginning I was losing. I'm not a Hyper full ring specialist. Needed some time and sample to get the idea about the rangers and what to push what to fold. After few hours I was playing break even but already lost like 100 or more BIs. After 6h I was HU twice and lost both times. Really unlucky as I was 5 times AI ahead or flipping for a win and lost all of it. Good I was home alone, because I was screaming really loud and really bad words. Hope my cats forgive me.

In the evening made a quick food break and then continue with 3rd cup of coffee and plan to grind as much as possible. There was like 9 more hours to go, so it is doable. Started to play better and had 3 more HU. 3 more lost And then stars decided to tilt me even more. Without notice they expired the challenge. I had the challenge window closed, so I didn't know about it. I kept grinding over an hour without possibility to score the challenge in the push/fold ugly game. Not nice, pokerstars, not nice. Disgusting.

So I lost quite some for BI's. Had super high level of caffeine. Took a short walk outside and sit back to cash games. Managed to grind it back in like 1,5k hands and here I am now. Enough for today. No graph because I didn't play too many cash games hands. Still pissed and with some tilt juice in veins. Gonna chill for an hour or so and to sleep. I'm afraid the sleep pattern is Siesta or mono back again as I forgot to plan and execute a midday nap.

No wine today, that's a good (bad) point. Would be nice to drink some for relax and to tilt off but will probably drink whole bottle it is not a good idea for today. I want tomorrow to do solid cash game grind and finally bring some solid profit.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Hola amigos. Day 8 already in full ahead.

Slept 6h so I will stick now to Siesta and keep 1 nap during day. Only two days of grind remains, so... I don't think I'm able to grind +14h cash games now anyway. It is better idea to grind solid and try not to tilt off to other stupid things. I want some more profit because... well, u know Christmas time

Already after 2k breakevenish hands but feeling the games pretty well. The Zoom pools ale varying a lot depending on daytime and I would like to do some more research about it. But not gonna do it now, and probably not soon as after the challenge I will stick to my regular evening/night hours. Don't have the flexibility to do such hour selection due to regular work.

To sum it up, my inside mindset situation definitely stabilized and yesterday juices after grinding sngs are already digested. Speaking of which - its time for a lunch.

Let's go with the flow.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Grind week is over.

Very unhappy have to close it with marathon, almost 24h session.

I remember how bad it was to run bad in PLO. I remember all my bad streak in HT HU sngs. Similar feelings after yesterday. Superfrustrating session in one day being over 20BI below EV. I could recharge my batteries and slowly start to attack 50z again, but.... looks like grinding NL25 till end of the year is my destiny. So be it.

Still very tired after last two days, so I will probably relax rest of the Sunday and sleep a lot as tomorrow I return to my regular work and late evening grind.

Goal number one for incoming week is to fix my LCD screen (or buy a new one).

Bloody Sunday....

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

I %$#@ hate this.... game? variance? myself? BRM?

Attrocious last 25k hands on 25z.

It's like 40bi under in few short days of grind. Not nice. No xmas this year

Bankroll is again in a DANGER ZONE and there is no way to attack higher limits this year. The only thing left to do is to keep grinding and don't give up. That is what I gonna do.

This week the Christmas madness begun and had little time to grind solid volume and post updates. Still there are tons of hands to analyze and notes to take after the last week grind. I will cover this soon in upcoming days, enjoy my time with family and grind at moderate rate, hopefully digging out of the hole. I really want to jump into 50z as soon as possible. I know I have small positive wr there. Only thing I need right now is proper roll online, confidence and some good run.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Winter is...

Actually, Winter series is coming. On pokerstars there is a new MTT series starting 25th Dec.

...and now I have dilemma. I want to play some MTTs, especially such series are really profitable. On the other hand, now I have some tough times considering my run, but my recent progress in zoom 6max is amazing and soon I should get a really nice results. I don't like to mix zoom and MTTs, as they have different pace. My idea is to play regular tables during the series. Moreover, I can switch to some reg tables training videos - mainly teunuss from RIO - some of my favorite ones. But my main concern is that I lose some momentum on ZOOM. I know, it is only 2 weeks, but...

So....I have one more day to contemplate that insanely tough poker decision

Merry Christmas

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Few more days (hands) left in 2017, but I do the summary right now anyway. The monthly giraffe:

Not really the way I hoped this month gonna look like but still not that bad overall. EV is quite good and this is very important. Finished in green. Easily you can recognize, there was a certain period of bad play and spew somewhere after the 60k hands mark. It was easy to avoid it but I decided to do that ugly ego-driven 24h marathon play. Not the smartest and EV+ move but still quite interesting experience. I grinded back most of it in terms of EV but the run was really frustrating and winnings are somewhere on the lower side of the story.

So the conclusion is that if I avoid tilting on higher stakes (I remind that I excluded myself atm), I can easily play nice, relaxed, profitable poker. Very good. I want to keep that pace, built a little bit more BIs and then attack higher accordingly. If the run is good then it is more than doable.

The 1 week grind challenge was the main highlight of December. Resulted in nice volume, but the winrate overall is bad. I'm pretty sure grinding solid 4-5k hands per day would give a better winrate than mad grinding 10k+ hands per day or doing 24h session. Added to the "things to avoid" list. Lesson learned.

I have also some positive news and ideas related to non-poker related stuff in my life. If everything goes well there, it will definitely help me with some of my mental issues at the tables. Actually this is very interesting topic, and I will write about it more in 2018. Taking care of your non-poker life is really really important for your poker performance. I can understand - there are people who can separate these two domains and don't experience negative interference between them. Some people have only poker in life - might be the best and optimal life solution But most of us: regs, recs, semi-pros, fishes, whales, nits, chicks, dudes, guys, degens.... we have some issues in real life. Then, we sit down to poker table and still feel these issues. We ask stupid questions in our heads. We have ugly trains of thoughts leading to wrong plays, wrong decisions and unclear vision of the situation at the table.

That is why focus is so important. And it is way easier to focus on the table, when there are no alarm bells all around us, in our minds and life. So turn off all these alarm bells, handle them, solve these annoying issues (yep, it is not that easy). Then, the proper focus on poker is way, way easier.

Happy NY and laser sharp focus on poker in 2018.

Re: MicroFocus and MacroPatience - (NLHE cash games poker)

Finally got over the New Year madness, hangover and downswing.

Last month I run pretty bad with respect to ev. First few days of 2018 - also bad. Eventually, yesterday had a pretty nice session and I feel much better. I knew that I was plaing good all that time. No gambling on higher (excluded) stakes, doing a lot of lab work, grinding high volume, taking notes... all this usually give solid results. But sometimes, we have to be patient and wait for the results....

I was far from losing confidence or patience, but it was a really annoying run. And of course it is not over Very likely standard jinx incoming and tonight session gonna be.... STOP!

Winter series is about to finish. I played maybe 5-7 MTTs from that, cashed in over 50% of them (solid sample), but no impressive results. In one turbo event I was really close to solid cash. Was deep into money, closing to FT with well above avg stack. Unfortunately this one crucial AI where I was ahead preflop, I lost to a BB A9s vs KJo. Winning this flip would give me a TOP10 stack and really good spot for a final table. Oh well... LOL_donkaments.

So I'm fully focused back on grinding cash. ATM I really enjoy learning from teunuss videos. I'm getting pretty good sample in my DB, so I want to do some db analysis as well. And i'm pretty happy I'm taking lot of good notes, and more often this starts to pay off.

One more thing for this messy first post in 2018. The MacroPatience idea is, as I've already mention in my OP, taken from GaryVee. I (almost) fully agree with that concept; and support, practice, deploy, worship patience in poker; but I decided to remove it from the title of the blog. MicroFocus is my own one, and I want to focus on it as my trademark

So, I wish you all the best 2018 at the poker tables and beside and remember to stay focused.
