            Week 2 update

So i got aaaaabsolutely crushed today, lost 4k. But let's be honest, i can't complain given how good my results are this month.

            Graph for month:

            Stake breakdown:

Today was just standard losing session type hands. Kinda went from laughable run good the past week to laughable run bad today. Million AK and KK v AA etc.

It's a weird feeling being up so much but i can't help but feel disappointed with todays results. I guess that's just human. Got 1 more week to grind before i go away and i'd definitely be happy with breaking even between now and then to book one of my best months!

Took a day off yesterday to help my gf house sit for a friend in West Hampstead. The flat there is just so sick and it turns out the couple are moving out - potentially a place we could move come october (our tenancy here is running out then)

Got welcomed back to the tables in horrendous fashion. Right off the back of losing 4k last session i mustve lost another 2-3k today. Dream.

Finding it quite hard to mentally deal with losing so much the past 2 sessions and not because of the literal amount lost, but because i knew my results on the 14th and it kinda feels like i'm being cautious that i still have a good month. Rationally i know that this is totally stupid, but irrationally (the part that i can't really control) it's 100% affecting me. Not sure how to deal with it other than just try and forget about the money, and just play my best game. It's rare that a mental game leak like this effects me so much so it's pretty frustrating for me.

Any thoughts would be appreciated but i'm pretty sure this is something i'm just gunna have to get over!

This is the main reason I stopped checking my results during a session as I get winners tilt and want to protect my winnings. It even applies when I check my results during the month and know I'm up x amount. For some reason I find it easier to deal with a session where I lose a couple of buy ins right off the bat compared to a session where I'm, up 3 or 4 buy ins and end up breaking even. I don't really tilt much at all when I'm losing but I just can't get over this one even though, as you say, it's totally irrational. I know there is the whole 'it's one long session' line and how sessions/days/months are totally arbitary lines we set but still it goes on.

Bena what does your gf think about poker? Specifically how much time you spend playing. Does she get "jealous of poker"?

I've never been able to find a woman who can put up with the amount of volume I want to put it. Even if we set aside some days nights etc can never find the right balance to make us both happy

yea gonna have to give her her fair share of attention I guess, don't expect much support until you show actual results though, that's how it is in the poker world with everybody who doesn't play poker, it was 9 years ago for me but it took a lil while before people started supporting me

Yeah i'm similar to this and i think i should really implement the not looking at results all month. I can obviously check some days if i've had a really good day or a really bad day if the temptation becomes too much. But not look at monthly graph as that's where i feel the problem lies.

Yeah i have always seen the point, but never been able to stick to it. Will continue to strive to get to the point that i don't feel the need to constantly check.

ofc it's standard to check this flop, but as i'm sure you're both aware you wanna be cbetting every texture in 3b pot at least some % of the time. It's actually kinda funny that the one hand i post where i cbet this board is probably 1 of 2 or 3 times in the whole year that i haven't checked this flop. Remember that i do have my frequencies somewhat in check

I thought it would be best to get my gf to answer this as she reads my blog regularly and it would feel strange answering on her behalf when i couldn't tell you her actual experience!

'I certainly view poker as a job for Ben. I'm out of the house 12+ hours a day with my job, so I cant begrudge him an hour or two in the evening if the games are too good to miss. It wouldn't be fair to demand his time when I myself dedicate so much of mine to my work. The generally unspoken condition being - as long as it isn't every night or weekend! He usually will play Sunday evening due to game quality but never grinds all weekend. We've been together since we were 18, which, definitely in hindsight, was long before Ben was any good! So in the early days I could see how much he loved it, and it helped that I found it really interesting and exciting too. So I really wanted him to succeed and improve and so supported his poker 100%. There have been ups and downs of course: in jan or feb 2013 we broke up for a bit, in part due to a doomed attempt at elite that ended up dominating too much of bens mood and attention. I did get "jealous" of poker then, but also angry at him as I could see how damaging grinding hours and hours everyday on a massive downswing was going to be; something he was refusing to admit. I also was feeling understandably neglected... You need to find a girl who respects your choice to be a poker player and is able to view it as a profession. (If that's how it honestly is) If it is just a hobby on the side then that's obviously very different to my experience, (for the past four or so years,) so I can't advise!'

In addition to what charlotte said i think you've just gotta find compromise - perhaps you are playing too much when you're in a relationship, or maybe it's important for the relationship that you sacrifice some poker time to put into time together, or even maybe the girls you have been with genuinely are just a pain in the arse about gambling. I don't know the ins and outs of you're experiences but i would say that if you are with a reasonably rational person, and are rational yourself, they should understand that something you enjoy and make money at (?) is important to you. I guess it's quite easy to say that you find girls you've been with get jealous of poker instead of perhaps seeing it from their POV. That's just an idea and ofc holds no real weight!

                        ---

Talking about failed SNE and downswings, i got semi hammered today. Prob lost about 1k which isn't the worst. Chatted to a couple of mates about how ridiculous it is that i seem to either have total heat or totally cold. Seems weird given i don't have a ridiculously high variance play style that it happens this way. It's not something that i'm not gunna give too much thought to though as in the long run i seem to do well, just with big up and down swings.

If u are struggling with the temptation of checking results u can just install that app that blocks access to the cashier. Think its called tiltbreaker in hm2.
For me it took one or two months to get used to but nowadays it doesn't bother me at all and never have that 'urge' to check results.

In the gf department it seems like u pretty much flopped the nuts.
U should be very grateful to have such support from ur gf but i'm sure u already know that.
