Had a pretty full on weekend discussing research proposals at university. I'm still not entirely sure what i'll be doing as my topic, but I'm gunna move slightly away from the money oriented stuff that i mentioned before. The new idea is around left/right brain use. Particularly around playing poker (left brain) and seeing clients/being in touch with feelings using right brain. I'm always grappling with trying to integrate both worlds internally and find that there's a leaking from both professions into the other. Still pretty unformulated but will keep this space updated
---
Poker has been going pretty badly, even though i've only played 1 or 2 sessions. Pretty much getting bluff caught in ludicrous spots and not making any hands. The green line is tanking horribly. Here's todays graph
pretty normal call down from this reg. haven't been this tilted in years. i guess using pair blockers is much better here but i got an extreme number of value combos. Would 100% shove any 2p vs this villain. His total tank time throughout the hand was maybe 5 seconds.
Pretty gross to be down close to 10k again this month. Games always seem suuuuper tough when you're getting crushed, but i'll keep my head screwed on and hope the games juice up over the next 2 weeks.
Clients tomorrow so no grind, but xmas holidays now so will have maaaany free time to grind.
You probably know way more than me, but recently read some really interesting stuff about how they used to treat people with epilepsy but cutting the connectors between the brain sides, to contain the electrical storms.
Think my favourite one iirc was when they showed a guy porn, and he giggled, but then the side which controls sight doesn't link to the side that controls speaking. So they asked him why he was laughing, and he subconciously made up a story to justify his laugh, and said that the camera looked really funny. The author extrapolated that we do this all the time when we don't understand why we do things, we subconsciously make up little stories which we will stand by forever to justify them, definitely resonates in poker!

Reason: disclaimer; I may have remembered the study wrong, from the book **** Deus if anyone wants to check
HEY I read about an exercise that stimulates both sides of the brain, so doing a basic test and comparing both (or 3 groups if your study needs the 3rd) will give very interesting results
another example of that is that every time I do tai chi before a sesh, it feels like I have a higher % winning sessions, I dont document them to be exact and obviously theres a lot more to it, like having the mind calmed, blood flowing because of exercise, not tilting and obviously believing it works. but its a very interesting subject.

Not sure if this will help but seeing you runbad is actually reassuring to nit peasants like me who runbad and start questioning reality and think wtf am I doing wrong am I the only one who loses etc etc.
Not as much a misery loves company type thing as it is a "oh ok I'm not the only one who gets snap snap snap called down by 4th pair"
ive heard some bad things about XRP, why do you think it's a worthy buy?
I've kinda covered my views on XRP in my own thread, but that's not really the point I was driving at here. I spoke to Ben the other day and he was considering buying up both LTC and XRP, and given that they're both up >100% since then, I'm hoping he followed through.

both of these sounds super interesting. Have you got links to them so i can give them a read?
can definitely relate to the meditation = better concentration = more winning sessions.

Idk how people achieve that level of discipline/mindset only thing holding me back with poker and everything else in general...
my discipline/mindset is totally atrocious atm. Probably the worst i've been impacted by any amount of losses, ever. Kinda weird and not sure why that is.

both of these sounds super interesting. Have you got links to them so i can give them a read?
I actually read about it in the book **** Deus (annoying profanity filter, word that comes before Sapiens). Would 100% recommend generally, tons of stuff on how the brain works in there.
hahaha, i didn't even need to open this link to know what was coming

Gl getting back on track, should be juicy next few weeks!
this is incredible and kinda nuts. I want to include certain neuroscience elements to my dissertation, particularly focusing on the left and right hemispheres. Also how the construction of the brain is influenced by developmental environments, which likely lead to decisions to work certain careers. So many possible threads to go at this stage, it's actually really exciting!

Played half the day at 200 when the 500 pool was dead and then 500 this evening. Blasted off another 200bb which I'm pretty annoyed about. I was truly amazed at how soft the 200 pool was compared to 500
blast off hand. turn just performs so so poorly when called otf. river ap is fine, but this is another example of a snowballing mistake that i just should not be making
Poker Stars, $2.50/$5 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Think one problem is that the keeper will get way more tired than the pen taker. Think Gazzy has the best side of it assuming he's an average football player.
