If true your friends are unbelievable luckboxes basically.

I have lots of smart friends who started business and failed, fairly ridiculous to make money in the first year too if you are building anything.

One of the most ******ed statements regarding business I've ever heard.
I mean first of all, how can you even talk about numbers when speaking of business in general?

I did not really mean starting something completely new but for example for me with so many connections and basically with all the guys I played poker with that now have some businesses it is fairly easy. I would really say that my projections of 30k first year,70k-80k are very cautious estimations.
If you don't have the working capital or don't have connections in the networking world and assuming you played like 5 years plus wtf did you do with your life?
There is a thriving community of former poker pros in several branches of businesses. Cryptocurrencies and stuff related there would be the biggest one gambling related businesses would be 2nd (be it affiliate, stables, agencies, sports betting casino and so on) 3rd biggest would be property business.
Obviously if you don't have the money and don't have connections then sure GL for you and maybe I overestimate how people that used to play approached their careers and lives .

Really surprised that my comment steered so much controversy. Makes me appreciate more all the people I met and still stay in touch from the poker world. Guess it is more of an exception than the rule.
It's not cautious, it's insane. It's also such a generic statement that doesn't apply to most people. I'd be interested in what job you think someone should look to make 30k profit the first year and 70-80k the second?

Look, the simplest way to show how absurd the statement is, If it was so easy to invest $250k in to a business and make 80k a year by the second year then almost everyone would be taking a loan and doing it and banks would hand out these loans like candy. I don't think criticising peoples life choices (for not having $250k saved up or deep business contacts) really helps your argument either and investing in crypto has been lucrative for many but is not a business.

I would also say that most poker players, post poker, are not thriving in the business world. Most people seem to go get jobs working for others and a lucky few go out and are successful in their on ventures.

I'm not having a go, I just vehemently disagree with your assertions. I think Plastic Elephant nailed it, if you and all your friends have been this successful then there is some extreme run good happening, it absolutely is not the norm.

It is kind of mad how much luck is involved when you choose to do something off the beaten path. Fooled by Randomness is a good read if anyone is interested.

June Results

Yo! The month has been super full of social activities, playing sport/gymming, grinding poker + pio and putting my website together.

Making the website has been a LOT harder than I thought it was gunna be. It's funny because I notice that age old (poker) trait within me - the expert who feels he's good at everything, and realising that things are actually very difficult outside of my expertise. What follows is the feeling of wanting to give it up instantly and pay someone else to do it It reminds me of school - not wanting to apply myself to anything because it stretched me too much. I think sooo many poker players can relate to this feeling. My gf has been an amazing motivator in getting me to stick with something that is super challenging and i'm thankful for that. The website is taking great shape, and while it's obviously taking way longer than if i had outsourced the project, it feels super rewarding. I'm ~60-70% of the way there.

Results

I've reduced my table count drastically by playing significantly less zoom (usually 1 500z, or 1 200z) and more regular tables. Since the party changes I have all but stopped playing there, but I am playing a lot more on stars again. The games are pretty good, you just gotta be suuuper quick to join new tables. I've also signed up to a couple PPP and upoker clubs, but they feel pretty china-esque so i dunno if I'll stick that out.

Super pleased with my results this month. I've found that sweet spot of running well and applying my pio study well

Good though to do this stuff sometimes to humble yourself and remind that **** isn't easy I think, dunning kruger every time

yeah it's taking good shape but i got a long way to go. It's very difficult and i've started researching java stuff to help with animation. Coming from a background of literally 0 coding, you can imagine how it's like trying to speak a totally new language with no understanding of vocab or pronunciation
