I have been playing poker in casinos for 4 years on and off. I have full time job making good salary. Player poker makes me very happy and exciting. I am planning to play poker couple hours every week.I usually play $1/$2.
My performance so far in 2014
I played total 75 hours between March 15 and August 2nd in 2014. Made a total of $4224.00 .Lost $1480. So I made total profit of $2744.00. Am I doing good? Last Saturday I lost 4 buy in due to my own mistakes. I am trying to avoid those mistakes.
I improved so much compared to my play in 2010. I am going to post my results here whenever I can.

Gl, the best advice I can give you is... Don't quit your day job, seriously... especially if your making a decent salary. Just read some poker books, browse 2+2, play whenever you can and try to improve your all around game every time you play.

Do you play online also? Or just in casinos?

Just keep doing what you are doing. Poker is a fun way to let off some steam from a tedious work week. Solid advice so far. Keep playing low stakes and build up a roll.

If you have a job that pays all your bills, then playing a couple of hours of poker each week is not playing semi-professionally because you don't require the income derived from poker to pay your bills. That said, it can allow you to accumulate wealth; that is, never spend any of your winnings and keep moving up until you are making good coin.

ur close to a $40 hourly, I'd say that's pretty solid for 1/2, it's gonna be many, many more hours until you can draw conclusions. 750 hours seems like a lot, but in reality, when one tabling slow live poker, it's not much of a sample

Thanks p2. I usually play good cards , sometimes Acerag suited depending on the position and sometimes small to medium pairs depending on how many are in the hand. That way I have minimized my losses

Seems like you are doing good.....

Last night while I was playing my girl jokingly text me this:

"What does your man do?"

"Oh he plays poker & on his spare time he's an Engineer & builds bridges" lol....

So yeah, I see poker as my "supplemental income"

Good luck my friend

I lost $300 in 6 hours this weekend.Played 3 buy ins ($100 each)

Thought I played the sessions well , but not.

Here is one hand that I did not play well and lost $120. I could not guess the ranges of this villian. He called my raise $11 with 8-10 offsuit and won the hand
1 - Hero $120 - cut off position
2 - Villian Under the gun - $350 - UTG

Hero has A J suited diamonds

MP1 calls $2. MP2 calls $2, MP3 calls $2, Hero raises to $11, Button calls, UTG calls, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 folds

Flop 2 J 9

UTG bets $6, Hero raises to $27, Button folds, UTG calls

Tun Q

UTG bets $6, Hero raises to $30, UTG calls

River 3

UTG goes ALLIN , I paused few seconds . Somebody asked for timer. I put him on hands like AK,JK, 9A and finally called
Villan chows 8 - 10 offsuit and wins the hand

lesson learned: When board has straight possibilities, slow down, don't try to estimate the ranges of the villan

Another hand I lost:

Hero-$89 - button

Hero has AJ
MP1 calls $2, MP2 raises $6, MP3 calls, Hero raises to $18, UTG folds, BigBlind folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 calls

Flop 778

Mp2 checks, Mp3 checks,Hero bets $18 , Mp2 folds, MP3 calls

Turn J
Mp3 checks, hero bets $18

River 6
Mp3 checks, I pushed him ALL IN since there are no over cards on the board other than J

MP3 called. Showed 6-7 offsuit.

Lesson learned: Not sure if there is any lesson here. I won several hands this way with KK, AA , QQ, JJ. Can you guys suggest?
Here villan played very tricky. He kept on checking, so I put him on over cards.Who will call $15 with 6-7 offsuit

Your lessons learned are wrong. You flat out butchered both of those hands. I mean, really, hand one the range of hands you assign him on the river are random garbage hands that you beat? JQ makes the most sense there, and if you've paid close attention to prior hands, T8 is very possible. Either way, that turn raise was pure spew, and you're only getting called when beat.

Hand two you put him on overcards, so you jam the river? You think he's calling with KQ there?

BTW, when you ask, "Who will call $15 with 6-7 offsuit?" People playing against players who will call off their whole stack with middle pair do.

Why they are garbage hands? they are good hands to bet the way he did.Otherwise nobody bets $6 and call my bet until they makes a straight.

This hand I wanted to play by reading the other players. But it did not work out.
Since he called $11, I did not put him on T8.
Since he did not raise my bet on the flop or on turn, I did not put him on JQ.

I cannot read other players.
