Another 3k hands down - happy with that with the train to Edinburgh and some real life stuff today:

Resorted to weaktight to anonymise some hands:

Vs meh reg.

Vs meh reg.

Vs some form of reg - trapped I guess:

In less positive news, absolutely furious about this:

A lot BitB related work tomorrow, and maybe some bouldering, and watch Arsenal beat United. Not intending on playing much.

Low volume today. Went bouldering, did a quick database review, started making a few new videos and watched the nonsense match at Old Trafford so can't complain.

D7 convinced me I was burning money not playing deep, so I decided to embrace it today. Then this hand occurred - extreme internet disconnection after flop, after a lot of stress, reconnect to tether on my phone with 0 seconds timebank to spare and just insta spam money into the pot - I was fairly happy to get jammed on. Horrendous to imagine my phone could have just been dead.

Made some video content today, went to a stretch class and caused myself a lot of pain, and then sat down for the RIO Beta testing, where one of the proudest moments of my poker career occurred (cross posting from bbv).

It was all 10nl, and I was planning to just play and test the software until Phil Galfond himself posted in the discord that he would give 50 euro to the best bluff to be posted.

For a while things weren't looking good. I kept making hands and decided no good bluff could start without a limp call or limp reraise, and binned off a few stacks in search of glory. Fortunately, some 10nl regs were posting triple barrels (some with actual equity), and asking Phil to endorse it, so I knew I was still live.

Then the moment arrived - I was dealt the glorious 72 on the button. My avatar was displaying tight aggressive, and I knew it was now or never. Mixing it up, I went for a 3x raise, and faced an instant 3bet from the SB. After considering a 4bet, I decided that the smaller the SRP, the more opportunities to run a great bluff, so flatted.

Flop was dealt:

936

I'd faded my biggest fear, flopping a pair, and tank called a 1/2 pot cbet.

Turn

8

Not ideal - turned equity. I'd come to far to back down now then, so when SB checked to me quickly bet 20% of the pot. SB thought for a while and called - it all hinged on the river card, 5 or a T and I was dead.

River

J

Bingo! 7 2 high. I knew what I had to do. Villain checked to me, I tanked, activated the 'YOLO' chat bubble, and jammed. After 10 long seconds, villain found the fold, I submitted the hand, and once I saw Phil's response I knew it was all but over:

20 minutes later, victory was confirmed and my place in poker history assured:

In all seriousness - RIO software was good, format is cool, and I will definitely be putting some volume in there when it launches.

In none nonsense bounty chasing poker today - got a bit beat up, but played 3k hands. Accidentally checked results so may as well post results for the month to date:

Hope to keep up the volume and the heat for the rest of the month.

So after the heady heights of Galfond recognising me as the best bluffer in the world, a bit of variance last few days.

Spent Friday and Saturday hard on the Bitb grind with D7 in Edinburgh, interspersed with a bit of trampolining, and travelled back to Newcastle Saturday night (trains on Saturday evenings are a fade for future it turns out.)

Did a great PIO session this morning, and then secured free tickets to Newcastle Wolves (not sure if brag or beat), to watch Newcastle attempt to play football and lose to a last minute Wolves goal. Had a couple of beers and then got back for a short grind.

Monthly volume is now looking like this (missing at least 7 omaha hands):

Played approx 1.5k hands after cinema yesterday, and very happy with the volume today. Was not feeling it at all, and losing concentration, but added 1 reg table, stuck on a Hans Zimmer playlist and regained focus:

Also did a very garbage run. Blaming the speed on wind and cold, but actually think not playing football regularly just ****s my fitness:

At 39k hands for the month and will hopefully get to 45k by the 15th, check results and do a proper update then with results - hopefully making quite a bit for charity at the moment.

As I mentioned, I watched Free Solo yesterday and it was outstanding. Would strongly recommend. For anyone who is unfamiliar, it follows Alex Honnold as he trains and eventually climbs El Capitan without any protection. El Capitan is genuinely the most ridiculous cliff I have seen in my life, 3000ft of vertical granite.

When I was in Yosemite, I really struggled with the lack of handholds in the granite having climbed primarily in a gym. There are tons of moves even on basic routes which involve foot scrubbing - effectively pinging all of your weight over your toe to create enough friction between your foot and the wall, to make sure you don't fall off. Not something that is particularly appealing without ropes. For anyone still unsure how insane this is - see image below:

As someone who has toyed with various 'extreme' sports (although not quite to this level ), the film also raised interesting questions about why we do what we do, how far is too far, and the ethics around risk taking. I've definitely skieed things i'm unsure of before with the kind of of yolo attitude, and a couple of years ago scrambled up the final slope of the half dome day hike with no harness when the cables were down. Always get the biggest adrenalin pump, but ultimately if something goes wrong the people you leave behind are the ones who suffer. Definitely food for thought and not quite sure where I stand on the idea of Free Soloing in general.

Oh man I used to love watching climbing documentaries. Seen an Alex Honnold one where he climbs that exact rockface, not sure if it's the same one but it's seriously insane. My hands are sweating just thinking about it.

IIRC doesn't he have a bit of a freakout whilst standing on a ledge halfway up, and has to meditate and regain composure before he continues?

If you're interested, it's different to the free-solo stuff but kind of related. Great film.

Alex's appearance on JRE is well worth listening to. He speaks for a while about how the most dangerous thing when doing these climbs is complacency and its often the easy climbs people end up in trouble on as they're only giving it 20% concentration. There's definitely some parallels with life as a whole there imo.

Today started well - smashed out a video I've been meaning to do forever for BitB Tourney. Then got absolutely worked at the tables, and pretty annoyed at how bad my mental game was too. Could really use a day off tomorrow but cleaner is round for 5 hours and definitely don't trust her enough to go out, not much to do in the house except grind or study so guess I'll keep at it.

Checked results too today after the blood bath, so may as well give month to date:

Can't complain with 5bb/100 with the volume I've been putting in - but the regs are not good and the games have been amazing. Going to try to avoid checking until end of month now.

Some hands from today:

This is the one that pushed me over the edge. Ashamed to say I basically outlined to this worthless reg why I folded AK here - at least managed to insta quit afterwards but need to start taking myself more seriously and avoid these kind of chat box blow ups:

Had a great 2 hour PIO session with some top regs and stable guys today, learnt a lot.

Went climbing and completed a circuit of routes I've been constantly failing on.

Got back in, logged on, saw the 200z pool, and posted this in the discord chat:

Plot twist
- I then proceeded to get absolutely bodied... avoided results but 39.8 WWSF and 47 W$SD over 2k hands does not bode well.

From looking at your hands in here and your results it looks like you have a lot of good reasons to play bigger, how come you are playing nl100-nl200?

I'm sure plenty of your friends would buy your action at higher stakes than what you are playing for a mark up.
Thanks for the compliment - a few reasons:

1.) 200z I'm making 80 ish per hour which is nice money, lowish variance.

2.) When I speak to the other guys, (eg Darrel who coaches at bitB and plays highstakes) I'm always pretty humbled by how far I still am behind. The same watching videos of ishter playing, attention to detail and on the fly range construction for maximum exploit I've still got a lot to learn. It's good to me to watch them because it's easy to think you are very good with the 200z regs.

3.) Scary to have high possibility of losing 4k+ in a day.

4.) Noone has offered to buy pieces with markup

All that said, I will definitely sit 500z when it seems worthwhile next year, and probably multisite higher stakes too to some extent.
