I've never really felt the urge to create a blog about how I'm doing in Poker due to the fact that previous to this year I was just a fish who thought I was going places. But now, I actually think with the progression I'm making I can make a living at the game.
Around April last year I managed to get my first ever backing deal in a great stable with some great guys. I was playing at a fairly low buy in and standard at the time, so it was a huge opportunity for me to improve and take a shot at Poker. I graduated in August with a degree in Computer Science which has admittedly been put on the back burner whilst I pursue Poker. During the time of starting the backing deal and finishing the year I've moved up from micro/low stakes to Mid stakes and feel at home with everything I'm playing at the moment.
Year so far:
Admittedly, It isn't the best graph in the world but it took me a while to adapt to new strategies and a new way of thinking. Also, a lot of players might look at my graph and think I'm just a run of the mill bad reg who's doing the minimum to make money. This isn't the case at all, I believe I'm playing at a fairly high level, putting in a lot of work off the tables and staying ahead of the regs in the games I play. When joining the stake I realized how little I actually knew and a few problems with my mental state. I experience my first ever 4-5k downswing this year which was pretty rough for me as I wasn't aware this was standard in the game. But, my mental game is in check right now and everything is in order for me to improve and keep moving up the ladder.
Goals for 2015:
- Play a minimum of 500 games per month/Increase overall volume
- 2-3 reviews a week aside from review with backers
- Make top 1000 players on P5's (not a true measure of ability/profit, but tough to do)
- Start playing a few high stakes tournaments at the back end of the year
- Keep a positive attitude no matter what
- Keep making money, shock. (a set monetary goal isn't something I think is productive)
I think I've rambled on enough for now, I'll be making posts pretty much after every session on how I've done, how my game is improving and most likely some venting here and there. Comments and advice from anyone is welcomed and hopefully 2015 is a successful year!
