Wanted to chat about the topic of bumhunting today, or something that's been tilting the life out of me.
I'm not some big headed reg who doesn't need to bumhunt etc, i defo think it's something you should do to improve your winrate etc. however the thing that tilts me about it is the approach to bumhunting. If you do it, it's best to be subtle about it. There are a couple of "regs" who make it so blatantly obvious that they are targeting weaker players:
- Snap table transfer when a weaker player leaves or transfers
- Walking all around the cardroom and standing at each table for a good 20 seconds trying to scan it out
- Asking other regs blatantly out loud who is the value

Had an example today where a "reg" walks up to my table, stands behind the biggest spot at the table and look over his shoulder at what his stack is, decided that it wasn't worth transferring for and then repeating for the next few tables. After the spot leaves he comes over to us and goes "why are you guys still sitting on the table?".
This person is absolutely aids for the game, i think the longest time they've been on a table is probably an hour.

I would prefer it if a person is only allowed 1 seat change per table so that it reduces aggressive bumhunting. It's funny when a whole table does musical chairs around a massive spot.

Tl;dr Aids Regs

Glad that most of my volume has been at 2/5 this year, just over 60 hours and 7 hours at 1/2 so far.
It's been brutal but been fairly happy with most of my play.

Anyone playing PS Festival London come and say hello!
I've yet to decide if i want to play it but will re-evaluate closer to the time. Just want to reduce variance in this downswing.

****ing agreed, it tilts the **** outta me.

Plus these are the guys that literally have no idea plan rather than grinding 1/2 forever so even if they were the least bit intelligent they'd realize that all these things harm the long term health of the games.

Add to that in general these people have a horrible table demeanour which makes the recs feel uncomfortable. I just can't understand how these bum hunters fail to see that the fish can go and lose their money another way if they don't feel comfortable/welcome at the table.

Flop: Q93
First limper checks, second limper leads £65, third limper folds, i raise to £200, first limper folds and second limper jams for ~£680, i sigh snap.
Turn: T
River: 2

Villain shows 33.

Unicorn limps BTN for £5, i call SB with K3, BB checks.

I check, BB checks, unicorn bets £10, I check raise to £40, BB folds, unicorn 3bets to £110, i tank call.
Turn: 8
I check, unicorn bets £200, i jam for ~£1.1k and unicorn sigh snap calls off.
River: 6
I show and the unicorn shows QTo and mucks.

UTG limps, unicorn goes AI for £51, i 3b to £125 with AQ, chinese whale cold calls out the BB and UTG calls.
unicorn accidentally tables AQ
Flop: Q75
Chinese whale checks, UTG checks and i bet £125, chinese whale calls, UTG folds.
Turn: 3
Chinese whale checks, i put him ai for ~£280 and he calls off.

Flop: K83
EE whale checks, unicorn jams for ~£1k, i go ai and EE whale snap folds.
Turn: Q
River: 4

Unicorn shows J2

Spoiler:

I was so mad after the AQvs78s hand and after HH4 i just snap quit as i knew i couldn't mentally handle the session any more.

Feeling fine now though, i'm hopeful that things will turn around.
I had a carbon copy of hand no.3 today I feel I have to share...put me on monkey tilt...

1/2 live nlhe

utg open 10, 3 callers, i 3bet in bb to £55 with AcKs, utg folds, mid position loves-a-hero-call spot calls, others fold, king of clubs exposed when cutoff folded. £131 pot going into the flop, villian has £325 left I have him covered.

flop Kd 5s 2h, I cbet 75, villian calls. pot £281 going into turn

Turn 7s, I shove all in expecting a call from villian 110% of the time, villian tank calls, I flip over AK, river 8s, villian turns over pocket 8s....£930 pot.

I took this line exploitatively against this specific villian, everything was "going according to plan", even the way he tank called I pictured it in my head when I shoved the turn......it was a one outer as someone claimed to have folded an 8...

exposed top pair, flops tptk, gets the money in good, getting rivered by an 8...pretty similar hand dont you think? lol

on top of that, villian later walked away with over £1400...

rant over...

Re: London Liveaments

May just be my flawed thinking but I think these **** regs don't realise how much they're hurting their own long run edge by being *******s to fish and making everything so obvious.

Last time I played live cash a reg needled some drunk fish at our table by showing one card for low pair, fish showed higher pair and the reg then showed the second card for 2p.

It's not just this, even the act of being the young guy with headphones and not saying anything for five hours isn't exactly going to make recs flock to you.

I don't get why many do this and the question why the games aren't as good as they used to be and how they never get to sit with the whale.

Idk it just tilts me as it's such a narrow minded and myopic way of looking at live poker. Whenever I decide to play live I look to have a good time, I don't want to sit for three hours having no conversation at all, I want to talk and have fun in pots etc

+1 I find it depressing sometimes to sit with 3 grumpy 1-2 live pros who view being better than a fish (who may be wealthy or have a very well paid job) as validation of their self worth and 3 kids wearing headphones never saying a word and then everyone looks disappointed when the fish gets bored and leaves to play roulette.

People don't seem to have a sense how to make a game so that the fish has fun and loosens up. You also can meet a lot of very interesting people playing poker and learn from them about all sorts of things. It helps pass the time....

Berate the hardcore bumhunting nits imo, I needle them subtly quite a lot.

I generally befriend the fish as - you get more action, have a laugh, you can network outside of poker for future/current business purposes and want it to be more enjoyable. This happened with massive Chinese whale who played big with me. At this point if some of the scummy regs came running over I would on occasion make it subtly known as "oh look the boring safe players are here" lol. Lots you can do to tilt them.

You don't have to make every rec comfortable but yes just being aggressive in your approach of bumhunting do make recs feel really uncomfortable, i've heard it a few times where recs are eyeing up the regs and are saying under their breath "please don't sit on my table".

Ha i suppose you guys don't play live poker everyday like i do, there are some days where i do come in and don't really want to talk to anyone. You'll never catch me wearing headphones though (unless someone is talking so much and won't shut up).

Yeah, a few of the bigger fun players ive chatted to have had really interesting lives. I usually like engaging in convo's with these guys especially when im sat right next to them, hence my ability to switch a 1/2 game to 5/T previously.

Don't totally agree with this, there are times where music is needed cause of the crap you hear and have to put up with.

Yeah i've decided to call out any idiot who wants to blatantly bumhunt. The example i gave above i've called this guy out on being a pro and killed his action, even though i look more pro than him

---

This weekend has been so swingy, but managed to find a solid win overall.
Theme of this weekend was valuebetting and running in to tops of ranges far too often.

Played a lot of poker, so much that my body is feeling the effects of it; late nights and long sessions.
I do like it cause it gives me that satisfaction of hard work but my god the health implications of it.

HH time cause everyone loves an interesting one.

HJ (buttonclickingmoron) opens to £20, i flat CO with 99, SB (fun fun player) calls and BB (nit) calls.

Stacks
HJ: 3.5k
Me: 2.2k
SB: 3.1k
BB: 1.5k

Flop: T98
Checks to HJ who bets £50, I raise to £160 (should made it more), SB cc, BB tank calls and HJ tanks calls.

Turn: J
We all check

River: J
checks to HJ who leads £300, i call, SB calls and BB folds.

The most interesting spot of this hh:
this is fairly annoying now as i just don't think he really has anything when he bets £300 so he's basically blcked me from setting the size, i really want to raise but know it's so obvious that i have a boat and could end up making everyone fold. I elected to flat and let the SB do something silly like raise a straight or call off with Jx or even Tx or even 9hXh. At the time i thought this flat was the best line to take as i had seen SB really overplay some hands.

HJ showed T9 (lol; literally button mashing) and SB showed 77.

Scariest pot i've played in a while, everyone coming in for a ride and all mega deep.
Loved it though

And that's fair comment - it's easy for me to say this as someone who plays at weekends and is not grinding every day. It's not the headphone wearing that irks me, it's the failover to even acknowledge new players, occasionally communicate etc that leads to a very cold atmosphere at the table.

I have been playing a lot recently though and have to say i did consider starting to bring headphones the other night at Aspers when I sat in a 1-1 game to chat to a mate and had the worlds leading poker authority sat next to me commentating on every hand (whilst in progress) advising people on their play, odds etc, whilst nursing his 25BB stack....then I moved to a 1-2 and had a (far better) player on the table who talked literally non stop about advanced theory all night.

Re: London Liveaments

Fun cooler from the weekend that played out in a slightly unusual way.

Early hours, 1/2 with 400 effective

UTG opens 7, 2 callers. Hero wakes up in BTN with red Aces - raises to 27

SB (tired, passive, loose but not clueless) cold calls.

Everyone else folds.

Flop 996r

SB donks 25. I confused call.

Turn 2. SB donks 50. Call.

River 9. SB donks 75.

I ponder and then jam the rest.

He calls and shows KK.

Thanks!

---

Been recovering from my illness so i've taken it fairly easy with the 2/5 grinds, been playing mainly 1/2, 1/3 and a sprinkle of 2/5.

Saw something absolutely ridiculous yesterday, a huge spot winning every hand and basically having nuts in every pot. He was literally unbeatable.

Had one annoying spot vs him

I open KQ in the CO to £15, whale calls BTN and scum-aids-reg calls in the BB.
Flop: K 2 8
BB checks, i bet £35, BTN calls, BB folds.
Turn: J
I bet £80, BTN calls.
River: 2
I check, BTN bets £300, i call and get shown 23
lololol

Taking it easy on the grind this week as i know next week will be big one.

Re: London Liveaments

Pokerstars Festival London has started, i've not really been playing as much cash as i hoped.
First day in i flicked in the £275 "Super Deepstack", twice.

This tournament was absolutely incredible, i've never seen anything like it! Pretty sure this was softer than a 2nl table online. I did really enjoy playing this timbey a lot.

How i busted first bullet;
Blinds 300/600 ante 100
UTG opens to 1800, CO calls, BTN calls, i squeeze in the BB with KQ to 7200, folds to BTN who calls
Flop: Q 2 6
i cbet 5700, BTN jams 56k effective, i snap it off
BTN has 46o!
Turn: 4
River: 7

HH from second bullet:
Had one super grim spot where

Blinds: 300/600 ante 100
UTG+2 opens to 1500, HJ calls, I squeeze Q Q to 6200, UTG+2 now 4bets to 16200, HJ folds and i call
Flop: J T 7
UTG+2 jams for 38000,
Hero goes in to the tank, 30 seconds deep in to the tank UTG+2 goes "Come on let's gamble! I just want to gamble!"
And hero snap folds.

Blinds: 600/1200 ante 200
CO opens to 2400, i 3bet to 6500 in the BB with 4 7, CO calls.
Flop: T75
I cbet 4500, CO calls.
Turn: 8
I check, CO checks
River: 6
I check, CO jams 23000, i snap and CO shows QJ

Had tons of chips at one point then lost half my stack in the last 2 levels of the night aggressively 3betting people.
Made a day 2 though! Came back with 10bb's and immediately double up second hand in 99>T9o

Blinds: 5k/10k ante 1k
UTG opens to 21k, i peel in the BB with 85 with a 200k effective stack.
Flop: 432
I check, UTG checks.
Turn: 4
I lead 16k, UTG calls.
River: 7
I bet 50k, UTG tank folds.

Finally got a flag on my non existent hendon mob, even though it was some sh*tty min cash.

My bust out hand:
Blinds: 6k/12k ante 2k
I open UTG with AKo to 26k, BB now jams 190k and i snap it off, BB shows A3o andddddddd he backdoors a straight on me.
Amazing jam from the BB that is...

Ah well, i did have lots of fun playing it. Really want to play the main but too much variance that i don't need in my life right now and i need to knuckle down and put the hours in for cash.

I find after tourneys i really struggle to focus, just want to click tons of buttons (as seen above) in cash and go ai because of the thrill.

Got a couple of sweats in the main and the HR so gl to them boys!
