Hey man,
I just subbed. Out of curiosity how did you originally start on Bovada? 5NL? SnGs? Any zoom? I have recently deposited $75 on Bovada and can't seem to figure out what I should play. In the past I have multi tabled 5NL and SnGs and have had some success with the DoNs and TU SnGs in particular, but then gambled it away on house games or sports like you've stated in the OP haha. I also don't have a HUD but that's because I feel as if these microstakes should still be very beatable regardless and that can be an investment further down the line. I have recently started writing down big hands and looking at them later, but I'm not sure if I am necessarily using the HH information to my benefit. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Hey Rian!
I made a few deposits ranging from $20-$60. Busted about 5 of them until the final $50 deposit. I was playing a mix of things. Usually 5NL or 5NL Zone. Some 5PLO and the nightly $1-2 MTTs. Once I hit about $100 I was playing a lot of the $5 DoN's and found them very good for sustained bankroll building.
I don't think it is critical for you to be reviewing hands and using a HUD at 5NL. Once you are grinding 25NL consistently, so roughly a $750+ bankroll, you could invest in these things. I think hand reviewing it critical for my game but I am playing 50NL+. You don't need hand review to beat 5NL. Just play a tight, solid game. Don't bluff.
If your goal is strictly to improve your player reads then stay out of the Zone games. But I had a lot of success at 10NL zone in regards to building my roll. I now really enjoy the higher stakes Zone games as well.
I would suggest a mix of every game format when first getting started. Try them all. Figure out what you like. One benefit of this is that it teaches you all stages of tournament play. DoN play is great to learn ICM and bubble play. HUSNGS are great for final tables. Cash is good for the early stages of MTTs. And the fast-fold Zone games will help you make decisions based upon the action, not player reads.
So I'd stick with some relatively passive bankroll management until you get comfortable. 5NL, the $3 SnGs and the $5 DoN's.
If you have any intention of making poker a serious hobby/career then you should request a ban from all house games ASAP. If you are playing strictly for fun and don't mind losing on house games then it's no big deal. I personally cannot mentally handle losing to the house so I got myself banned from all house games on all sites. If you really want to gamble your money then your probably better off shot taking at poker vs playing house games.
Thanks for following. Feel free to ask any questions you want.
