Went back for round 2 and I noticed Mo, the action player from the other night, at another table so I put my initials on the board for a table change. Somehow a seat opens up rather quickly and I get into the game. He is quite literally playing every two cards. Not any two cards, EVERY two cards. 32os? 72os? That's worth calling a raise. If no one raises in front of him he makes it 75 or 100 automatically. Never mind how many limpers are in there setting the trap. And people are calling him with slightly better garbage than he's raising with. I'm adjusting my starting requirements. He plays really loose and really passive, if you can't outplay this guy then you can't outplay anybody. It's really simple, if he has a pair or a draw he ain't folding. And he is fairly inelastic on sizing. I was sitting on his right so I was trying to pick up a big pair to limp reraise him. He'd call a limp raise to 275 no big deal with any two that he already put out 75 with. Didn't get hardly any playable hands. Oh well.

Yeah thats always a possibility in games like that. Guy is going to drop 5k+ in an hour or two and maybe run it up for a while. Thankfully he left around midnight last night so I could go to sleep at a reasonable time. And I pretty much just broke even in the second half of the night was winning big for the first sesh.

I could post more hand histories but I'm running low on battery and I want to go hike at Griffith Park. One of the precepts of the Art of War is that in order to be ready, you need to practice. In order to be good at something, the best, you have to do it all the time, until it becomes second nature. You can find me at a poker table just about every single day!

Goodnight Sir

Hero BTN (covers) AdJs
Villain 1 MP ($900) 86os
Villain 2 MP+1($550) ??

3 limps in front of hero and we raise to 50 with AJos. 2 callers.

Flop ($175) J75xss

Vil 1 checks and vil 2 bets 70. I think about it for a while and while doing so vil 1 is picking up his cards and giving off some reads that he is not very strong. With vil 2 weakly donking into me and vil 1 giving off weak live tells I decide to just rip it in. All-in. Vil 1 thinks about it for 30 secs maybe and then calls it off. Vil 2 folds. Turn is a 5 and river is a T and villain goes to turn his cards over. For like 20 seconds or so I thought I was looking at 98 and that he hit his double gutter. Nope! Some people play differently when it's time to go home at the end of the night.

Ok sorry. I just don't understand why OP has to have a problem with most people he encounters for very very dumb reasons (like boiling their food). Otherwise, good read.

So I noticed something the other day. Some bum panhandling at an offramp. White guy around my age. Scraggly hair and bear. Looked like a different version of me. I decided I hated him right away. Slowing down traffic, making the offramp dangerous, asking for a handout, not working, giving people the peace sign over and over. I don't wish peace for you dude, get the eff out of the road. Then as I'm driving away I see a Mexican lady sitting on the corner selling flowers for people to put on their loved-ones graves in the cemetery nearby. And I think if I'm going to just give my money away I'd rather give it to her since she's out trying to provide a service to people, working, rather than just standing around asking for people to give to you. Eff that! The state of California ain't letting people starve. Figure it out, $200/month in foodstamps and there's plenty of churches and soup kitchens giving out free food. You give that bum a dollar, you're giving him a dollar worth of cigarettes, booze, or drugs. And all of these idiots are just handing it over for this guy to get his rocks off. All because they don't have the gumption to say no. As soon as someone starts asking me for something I just immediately say no I don't even let them finish. Unless you have a nice set of tits. Then I'm screwed.

Fair assessment. I was the jerk in that situation. I really was talking to myself when I kept saying "You're an effing A-hole!".

I don't have a problem with people boiling their food. I'm just making fun of it. It's a trivial thing to make fun of, perhaps I wasn't doing it right. Maybe you're the sensitive one because Mommy boiled your meat? J/k. But seriously if anyone had a mom who boiled meat on the regular I think that would qualify as some sort of neglect or child abuse. Like if I had three kids and I gave two kids grilled steak and the third kid boiled steak everyone would know that I hated that third kid.

dude, you and that guy are way more similar than you realize. if you think he's lazy for begging at an intersection (which is probably his best net/hourly out of all the options available), wouldn't you be considered even lazier? At least he's out hustling on the street, trying to make a dollar to eat/smoke/drink, while you play a card game in a cushy chair with air conditioning. and lets be honest, whether you give him that dollar or not it's still probably going to drugs

LOL. Yeah I don't really hate the guy. I hate the part of myself that I see in him. And not the part about being lazy but instead the fact that he isn't contributing. Get a cooler and sell bottles of water by the road, do something! Don't just ask for a handout.

Emerson puts it best.

Quote:
Then, again, do not tell me, as a good man did to-day, of my obligation to put all poor men in good situations. Are they my poor? I tell thee, thou foolish philanthropist, that I grudge the dollar, the dime, the cent, I give to such men as do not belong to me and to whom I do not belong. There is a class of persons to whom by all spiritual affinity I am bought and sold; for them I will go to prison, if need be; but your miscellaneous popular charities; the education at college of fools; the building of meeting-houses to the vain end to which many now stand; alms to sots; and the thousandfold Relief Societies; — though I confess with shame I sometimes succumb and give the dollar, it is a wicked dollar which by and by I shall have the manhood to withhold.

I kinda get where you're coming from, but begging tends to net a higher hourly than trying to sell water bottles/snacks. You also have to consider that panhandling is legal in almost all cities, whereas selling water without a permit is illegal in every major US city (for a country that prides itself on capitalism, there's very little freedom to sell or even give anything away without the government's permission). In LA selling bottled water will get you a 1k fine and up to 6 months in jail, whereas pan handling the worst you're likely to get is a jaw walking ticket or a ticket for standing on a median.

No cop is going to bust you for selling bottled water unless you do it right outside of a 7/11 or something stupid.

Results 12/1: -$2475

I should have seen it coming. I have to remind myself I'm an idiot every day or some times I forget and do something stupid.

Something Stupid

Hero BTN (~1400) JTcc
Villain BB (covers) 66

MP opens to 30 I call otb and villain calls from the BB.

Flop ($90) 986ddx

Villain leads for 40, mp folds, and I raise to 160 and villain calls.

Turn ($410) 2x

Villain bets 100 and I punt "all-in" for ~1200. Villain calls and river does not save me. I overestimated my fold equity there I guess.

Battled back from being down 1k early on in the day which is a lot for me. I just don't lose.

Ugly Runout, Or Is It?

Rick HJ (~1500) AQos
Carl BB (covers) AA - British reg.

I open to 35 the btn calls and Carl pops it up to 150. I consider 4betting here but decide to see a flop instead. Btn folds.

Flop ($335) Q54hhs

Carl tosses out two hundred dollar chips. I raise to 465 and Carl calls.

Turn ($1265) Ks

Before the turn comes all I'm thinking is please don't let it be a king. Carl checks and I check it back.

River ($1265) Jh

Well damn. Carl checks and I check. He shows AA and I show my hand. He's happy he still has the best hand and I'm happy I didn't lose more. Everybody's happy!

I'm sorry you don't have a switch you can flip to turn into a GTO poker machine like me. Sad. The switch has been flipped!

Nice thread. What bankroll amount are you looking to reach before moving to 10/20?

knowing him?? one buyin

and for anyone who thinks panhandlers make tons of money, theyre full of ****. i quit in the mid 1990s once people stopped giving. in the late 1980s when i was under 21, no one had ever seen anyone with a sign and theyd give. up to $50-100 a day. but long before 2000, it had quickly went down to like $25-30 a day and by then i could grind out about $40 a day in $1-5 stud.
