I read the rules on the NFL Gameday Giveaway that Commerce is doing. The top 3 picks each week get 500,300, and 200 bucks. The top 3 season winners after 17 weeks get 5k,3k, and 2k. And to earn the million dollar grand prize you have to pick 193 out of the 233 games for the whole season. Hmmm I'm not that great at math but going ~80% for a whole season doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. Not for a free shot at a million bucks. I just gotta make sure I make the picks every week. Only seemed like maybe 100 or maybe even less entries were in the drawing from what I could see. And to have a chance at the season prize or the million it would make sense you have to enter every week. I'm going to give myself the best chance possible by entering all 17 weeks.

Not On My Watch!

Hero UTG+1(covers) AsAc
Villain 1 UTG (~1k) ??
Villain 2 BTN (~1300)

Villain 1 limps and we raise to 45, both villains call.

Flop ($145) 984hxx

Vil 1 checks we bet 75 and both villains call.

Turn ($370) 3h

I was hoping for a 3 or 2 turn and bingo we got it. Vil 1 checks and we sneakily check and villain 2 bets 145, vil1 folds and we go all-in ~1100. Villain looks pained asks "why did i bet?" and folds. Says he had K9hh and someone rabbit hunts the river 10h.

Misplayed Jacks?

Hero HJ (covers) JhJd
Villain BTN ($790) KK - definition of a calling station.

Hero posts 15 cause I just got back from a little weed break. Look down at jacks and pop it up to 40. Villain raises to 75. Small blind cold calls and it's back to us. 4bet to 240. Villain slams a 5bet into the pot, 550. The way he smacked the chips down on the table, I have to go with my guts and rely on live reads. I'm an old school live pro. Instead I 6bet (whatever happened to that guy?) all-in (790) . KK calls and wins. Meh. Honestly it felt like a spot that I would have been upset if I folded and was wrong and where paying it off didn't feel that bad. That being said I need to use logic and realize the calling station isn't 5betting the tightest player at the table without some kind of real hand. The reason I got it in was because I had seen this guy pay off with some real garbage... Oh well.

One thing that I'm getting better is not getting upset with myself when I make a mistake. I used to get mad when I would play bad and make a mistake, but I've come to realize that I've been overly hard on myself. It's unnecessary and unproductive. Of course I should be analyzing my own play but I don't need to get emotional about it. So what if I make a mistake? That's part of the game, like taking a bad beat. Try it out. Don't be so hard on yourself for mistakes (away from the table too). And I've found that it has actually improved my game. Less of my energy and focus is on the past but rather in the current moment and observing the now.

Have you ever cried driving home from the casino? I have.

Yeah I'm planning a trip down Mexico way sometime soon. (San Diego and back)

4 bet is bad and 6 bet is terrible. In live poker the small reraise by a weak player is nearly always AA and sometimes KK. Should have called the 75 to set mine.

Ouch. Today was the most amount of money I've ever lost in a day. I played pretty poorly today ran bad too. Don't feel like re-living and going over any hands at the moment. I guess I have to put into practice forgiving myself for making mistakes =P.

Took a break and conversed and smoked a j with Sensimuse. That was cool. We talked about the metaphysical nature of our existence... or something like that. Next one is on me =D.

Thank you =D. I'm loving my van, it's terrific. Should have bought one a year ago after I hit the jackpot, don't know what I was thinking. Pics on the way!

Kinda funny in a brutal sort of way, last night was also the most I've ever lost in a day. I did enjoy the break though so at least one positive despite getting flush over flushed, missing all flops, and getting my bluffs snapped off by lone pairs. Until next time mate

Nice to know we both set personal records. Solidarity bro. Hit the reset button and get right back at it. Play tighter and more aggressive. Plug leaks. Be like the buffalo and charge the storm!

Nah, I got a flip phone, never used an app. It's the uncertainty principle. Knowing my hourly changes it and not for the better.

The other day at the table there was a setup change. While the dealer was spreading and checking the cards. 6 out of the 7 other people were all staring fixed at their phones. Sad. I have a tough enough time being socially awkward and connecting to people and the society I live in doesn't help. Put your phones away people. Just my humble ignorant opinion.

Oh yeah, here are a few pics. Lighting is bad, but you get the idea.

Star Lord Jacket. I'm gonna buy the helmet and be "Star Lord" for Halloween. But for now I'm just playing an A-hole in a red leather jacket.

My uncle helped me free open the door in the middle of the van. There were two padded wooden beams across the center that was making the middle door inaccessible. So I was sleeping and leaving the side door unlocked at night, which probably invited a couple of thieves. Got it freed now which is cool, so much better to park and just go into the back without having to get out and use a side door. I paid my uncle $100 to use a zawsaw and we had to rip out a bunch of bolts and other crap but we got it done. He of course would have done it for free but I'm not broke and he could use the money so I randomly paid him a week later since I didn't have any cash on me at the time and he was grateful. And it's worth it to me for sure.

Sleeping mat. I need to get a mattress just a pad on the floor isn't very comfortable. But then again I slept in the passenger side of a cramped Toyota Corolla for years when I could afford a sick ass van like the one I got. Future self is telling my present self to get a mfing mattress asap dumbass.

You can get a sturdy camping cot for like $20 at Wal-Mart. Much more comfortable than a mat and it folds up so it doesn't take up much room.

I would find a way to keep the cloths in drawers under a little bed/matriss thingy. Clean it up a bit, a nice rug, maybe a guitar in the corner, and a little table with a candle on it for when I have company. Find a cool traveler girl to hang out with. (You need to go up north SF, Berkeley, Oakland) for the girl. While your up there play in some Nor Cal games.

Clean it up a bit, the van is nice, travel a bit.
Edit: 24 hour gym membership for the shower while traveling.

Big Heart

Hero BB (covers) KQhh
Villain (~$1050) ?? ~35yo white guy reg. played with him a few times at least he will recognize me as being tight/solid imo.

Villain raises to 35 everyone folds to hero and we call.

Flop ($70) T63hsx

Hero leads for $40. We have overs and backdoors so not that I try to be too balanced but I don't always have a set when I lead. And I don't always lead. My flop strategy is very feel and in the moment based and this "feels" like a good spot to lead. Villain calls.

Turn ($150) Js

Hero bets $150 and villain calls. Picked up backdoors so fire that 2nd barrel.

River ($450) 8c

Hero thinks for a min and then we push all-in. Feels like this should work very often and we got this far, time to blast off! Villain thinks for a long two or three minutes before saying "good bet" and folding. Phew!!

I could be gun shy after yesterday's smack down, but that's how people go on losing streaks. They let one loss shake their confidence. I know because it's happened to me before. More than once. But I knew yesterday was a test and today I have to come back ready for anything. Focused. I think a big part of my losing was just playing too loose preflop. Every suited connector was an open raise for me from any position or a call. When in reality I need to be folding all of the ones except the ones that are screaming to be played. In position multi way deep etc.

I've put a small dent in yesterday's losses so far. Gonna smoke a little weed then head over to the Bike for a couple of hours. I'm gonna try to start playing there once or twice a week to attain "reg" status. And try to get Ryan Feldman to schedule me on LATB. That's the plan anyways.

Yeah I'll probably just go full on mattress for max comfort. Plus I don't wanna be folding up something everyday. Streamline.

I have a couple sturdy stackable blue plastic storage containers that I can keep things in. And yeah I need to clean it up and sooner rather than later. It's not good for my self esteem to live in a pile of stuff. I like the guitar and table idea. I want to learn how to play guitar. And have a couple folding chairs or something. I dunno I gotta figure it out, but I appreciate the ideas and the input, thanks. And yeah I need to find an adventurous woman to hang out with. And get this van moving to new places. Explore new horizons.

I didn't end up making it out to the Bike tonight I just went over to my friends house, hung out and watched some Big Brother.

What would my future self say to my present self? A lonely Rick would tell me to be more outgoing. An old Rick would tell me youth is wasted on the young. I feel like Nick Cage in the movie Next, I'm trying to see down each future path and figure out which one to take. I'm the infinite Rick trying to be the one Rick. The best Rick. Dare I say, the Rickest of Ricks?

I would say that waking up to an alarm clock is stressful. Living an unfulfilled life is stressful. Having regret is stressful. The stress that I experience from poker is next to nothing. I accept the variance. I have a van I can sleep in and a job I can go back to, if need be. And if I lost every single dollar I have I can go down to the social security office and get 192 dollars worth of food stamps put on my welfare card that day and get 20 bucks worth of bus tokens to make sure I can get to work. Yes, it's worth it. I'm trying to live the most stress free life I can and I feel like I'm improving at it. A lot of it is just mindset and perspective.

Last time I cried from poker was in like 2006. I'm not nearly that soft anymore. Bad beats roll off me like water off a duck's back. Mostly...

You have time. I wish I could go back ten years and put more energy into poker. But I can't, instead I think about a future me ten years older, still living in a van at 42 or being some other kind of loser who wishes he could go back in time and be 32 again. Hell no!!! No time like the present! No regerts!

Thank you and good luck to you as well! =D

Thank you very much. Will try to keep my posts fun and entertaining moving forward. My life is short, why fill it with negativity? If I can learn how to be a better poker player, hopefully I can learn how to be a better person.

This is how I feel =D.

And for the record this is how most people walk around LA in case you've never been here.

Wow this thread is great but i gotta say a few things as a new member

1- Rick and morty is awesome

2- OP you need to realize something . I know your happy and all that - but you havent even had a taste of the good life. I think thats why your satisfied where you are at. I dont care how much you try to convince me - living in a van must suck. Dont be satisfied with that - life can be so much better (and also worst obviously, like if your living in a van in a warzone maybe)

I realized a while ago when i kicked my drug habits that: Yes, getting high is great. But getting high when your filthy rich and have no responsibilities is heaven on earth. You arent there yet OP - so dont buy a bed for your van or any of that crap - just get out of it and get a nice place with a nice bed , etc

Your thread is great and ive only read 7 pages. But you being treated like a circus monkey for my enjoyment is not cool - especially if your OK with it. Step up your life game OP

Also use that van to travel and network. networking is key to making it in California. Cruise down to San Diego - we have some card rooms down here that are great. Go chill at the beach- dont rot away in one spot in LA OP!
