lol, you can't say that just because you didn't cash.

If you don't think its a good decision then just don't do it.

Yeah tournaments are stupid I agree, but the actual stupid decision was playing one that is such a big % of your net. Play some smaller ones if you're trying to bink.

But ofc at the end of the day you're going to do whatever you want and ignore good advice, so goodluck on the next 1k

Allow me to clarify my position. Tournaments are stupid because I could have been playing cash games. A lower variance higher hourly less committal option. A better choice always. But whatever I wanted to gamble.

I was sitting next to the dude with pink flower hat. He could be the dude from Big Lebowski. Middle age white guy with some long grey hairs always weaing the pink flower cap. Really chill. We were talking about the 2nd amendment and he asked if I thought individuals should be allowed to own nukes. And I said what if I had a whole city coming after me? Later on he pointed out one of the posse of 4 British guys having a conference off to the side and said that one is like the pimp and that is his stable of hoes. Cracked me up. So many damn Brits at the Commerce. Most are cool. But overall they are bad action and bad for the game. Too serious.

<----- the dude

i've played with this kid and seen him at commerce all the time. can confirm that he gives off a pleasant vibe, and seems like a nice dude irl. i'm a little surprised by some of the aggro in his posting. for example thinking that attempted robbery warrants a death sentence... is extreme... and terribly wrong.

i also have an opinion on the server calling him boy deal. my guess is that op was nice to her about it. he seems like that kind of guy. but i got the feeling that he felt a sense of entitlement at least a little because he was a customer, and she was a worker? maybe he was even looking down on her a little for being a food server? idk. but for me, i respect the hell out of the food servers and the dealers and the chip runners and all the workers. and i feel grateful and lucky that they are there working their asses off while we sit on our asses and play cards. and if one of them calls me "boy" because english isnt her first language or whatever, i'm not tripping. she's just trying to get by, same as all of us.

good thread though! thanks simplerick

Thanks. And thanks for sharing that video, that's great! Yeah that's the dude.

Yeah I overreacted to her calling me 'boy'. I'm not black. I'll just let people call me whatever they want from now on. Why care? I don't look down on foodservers or dealers, they're just ordinary people like you and me. I used to drive a bus and I enjoyed serving others and helping people get to work on time. I might go back to driving a bus, who knows. And I don't think attempted robbery warrants a death sentence. I think, and the law agrees, that justifiable homicide is allowed if someone is robbing you or about to rob you because you are protecting yourself. I'm not taking chances with my life. That's all.

Sore Loser

Hero aka Sore Loser BB($1510) AdJs
Villain MP(covers) AQos

Villain opens to 35 button calls and I raise to 175 both players call

Flop 773ddx ($525)

Everyone checks

Turn 9

I bet 310 villain calls.

River 6

I go all in for 1025 and villain calls after thinking about it for a few minutes.

Everybody takes a turn congratulating the other player. One guy wanted to shake his hand, one guy wanted his autograph, and another guy said he should run for congress.

I give up. I've had enough. I'm sitting there for a few minutes watching the regs at the other end of the table discussing how to play and how much was bet and it just pisses me off. To see other players working together, working against me. I don't discuss reads or how to play with other players at the table. There is a reason there is an english only rule at the table and it's to prevent collusion. But people still openly talk to each other about how to play a particular opponent or the whale at the table. It's absurd! It just pisses me off to think about people discussing how I play and having reads against me that they didn't earn. I'm tired of it.

I chastise no one in particular for rubbing salt in my wound, basically letting everyone know what a petty ass loser I am. I can't remember what exactly I said. Nothing clever, just made myself look like a sore loser. Then I said I feel like an a-hole and left the casino hanging my head. Defeated. Gonna take a break for the rest of the day at least. (I think I said something like "You know it really sucks when you lose a big hand to hear everyone else congratulate the other player on outplaying you.") Fwiw a couple players said sorry which just made me feel worse. I'm a real jerk. Maybe they considered me a big boy capable of handling a loss at the game I chose to sit down at. Why would they think that? I set them all straight and let them know, "No, I'm a little emotional boy".

I left the casino early yesterday needing to rethink and reprioritize my life. Went on a hike at griffith park to clear my mind and clear my lungs. I need to go hiking every day, that's one thing that needs to be incorporated into my routine. I realize now that the reason that I got emotional about the loss was that I have been neglecting the one true god, the sun. All praise and glory to the mighty star that powers this solar system, that brings life to this planet. From now on every morning I'm going to worship the sun. Absorb the nourishing rays of light that have traveled millions of miles across space to impart their energy to me. And spend time in nature. That has to help me keep an even keel.

Went and saw the movie "White Boy Rick" last night. I had a good time and enjoyed watching the movie. It's nice to know at least that I'm not weighted down for long with bad feelings.

Damage is done. I've made myself look like a chump. Who cares if the other players want to congratulate the guy on making a good call? He made a good call. Why do I gotta bring the mood down? Just say "Nice call" like everyone else and move on with it. But no, I let everyone know what a sore loser I am. Lame. All I can do now is apologize to everyone I see for being a sore loser. I sincerely am sorry. And embarrassed.

Yes I agree with that. I don't see myself as a poker player so much as a gambler. Poker is just the means I use to gamble most often, but I love gambling! And yeah a big $1100 tourney is a huge gamble with a top heavy prize structure so of course I'm going to be attracted to the gambling. I don't regret playing the tournament. I could have probably better spent my time playing cash games, but it isn't about that. Life is about living not making cold emotionless decisions. Poker is about having fun. If you do it just for money than you are doing it wrong. Why not have fun also? It really is a choice in so many respects, having a positive mindset.

Poker, sports, blackjack. I'd bet on random things too. Never bet on craps, roulette or slots though.

Went on a nice 2 mile hike at Griffith Park today. I was talking to the birds like Dr. Doolittle since they were chirping at me. Then I heard some bird of prey screech overhead. Some little critter is in trouble. My blood starts getting hot. I let out a loud "cacaw!" I'm king of the birds! King Dodo. Staring at the the trees on my walk down. They look so cool. Different types of trees 30 or 50 feet tall lots of leaves, hanging leaves, different shades of brown and green. They seem very interesting for some reason.

Anyway need to get out more and explore and talk to different people. I think my plan moving forward is to try to go on a hike every morning and try to get to the office (Coffee Bean) before noon and then head over to the casino shortly after that. I'm pretty sure I used to be good at poker at some point. Can I figure it out? I feel reinvigorated and ready to hit the felt again.

Yeah maybe. But still I don't like losing or playing -ev games vs the house.

brother thats a great idea. go on hikes and do stuff unrelated to poker as much as possible. take up surfing! i used to surf with people living out of cars and vans all the time back in the day- anyone can do it and its calming (and enlightening- but thats a different topic lol)

rick, at the end of the day - when youre not at the poker tables, youre still thinking of poker (IMO). that **** will wear on you no matter what. imagine working and going home and still thinking about work? the thing is you HAVE to do it because your playing people you want an edge on- that still doesnt make it right, and no one can do that for long before going broke or getting burned out

Collusion

A player I call "Redbeard" (guess why) is all-in preflop for 110 and gets called by two players. An asian couple that I've seen play once before a couple of days ago. They both have money behind. When the flop comes out they both flip their hands face up...AQos and 44. Uhhhh....What? "Call the floor". David the floor supervisor comes over and explains to the players that in order for the game to work properly every one needs to play aggressively against each other. That hand ended up checking through and justice prevails as Redbeards pocket nines hold up.

Redbeard is a player that I've seen playing in the PLO game often, never holdem. He's definitely a reg in that game, someone I just assumed was a pro, a mid 30's reg. He was telling a story about getting robbed at gunpoint and someone stealing a quarter million dollars from his safe. Damn! Now he's shortstacking 5/T. Crazy. I didn't catch all the details but he was saying that friends of his were telling him they spotted the thief around town. So apparently the thief is known to him. What an effed up situation.

I played with this guy too. Despite him being a nice guy, I wasn't sure how much to believe of his stories tbh. He claimed he had $250k stolen from his safe by a reg at the commerce, but he didn't take any legal action because he won the money playing cash games. That explanation made 0 sense to me, but I didn't push him on it.

If he really got robbed for something close to that amount he didn't make the money playing poker. For one, it's perfectly legal to make 250k playing cash games and there would be a record of every cash withdrawal at the commerce if the police started asking questions. But more importantly, he was a total fish. Limp/calling utg with K3s and calling down if he catches a piece. Never saw him raise or play aggressively. Claimed he used to play way higher NL, now he just plays mixed. Idk, he was telling a lot of stories that didn't sound true so idk if he even plays mixed for a living. Fun guy to play with though, will always table select to his table lol

If he didn't report the money as income then he would be on the hook for income tax evasion so that part is reasonable at least. It would also comport with him having all the money in cash in the first place and not in the bank. And I have seen this guy playing 5-5 PLO on the regular before yesterday and never hold em. Story makes sense to me but I'm pretty dense and gullible some times.

Maybe. I'd think that paying some backtaxes and fines would be better than being out the whole 1/4 milly, but maybe he figured it was unrecoverable anyway. He also could've lied and said he earned all or most of it this year, so he wouldn't have had to report anything yet. Regardless, as with any story about a guy having 250k stolen from his house at gun (knife? can't remember) point, there were quite a few details left out. I think it's at least partially true though.

No telling what these two crazy old bums are going to get up to today. Maybe go to Vegas and sell some of those 70 xanax? I'm not sure they will make it out that far. Maybe I should have tried to talk to them and befriend them, I've got the van, let's go on a roadtrip to Vegas guys!!!! But first, before we leave town, let's hit that other guy upside the head with a brick or something for crossing you in whatever way he did. Then, Vegas baby! Woooo!!!! Next time...
