Irish Open 2017 @ Citywest Hotel

Hi guys, my name is Rez, 33, Male, living in Romford, Essex and im posting this in exchange for the well known trip report rungood. I mainly play 1/2 - 2/5 NL and PLO, have ventured into 5/10 PLO a few times when the game's were good, I have a decent bankroll for cash, and have a 4 week trip in May/June for WSOP, and want to share my experiance with the LVL group who have given many hours of entertainment with other TR's, so this is my 2nd report which I will be updating after each day, or the following day with some live updates from the table, i hope you enjoy.

My previous trip report to Kings casino...

And so it begins

The days work is done, the work van is put away, and im now in poker holiday mode. This trip has been booked for over 6 weeks, and its finally here and I can not wait! The last few weeks I have heard lots of stories of the Irish Open, and one thing was the same...how good the cash game action is. I have played some amazing games the last few years, but im told nothing will compare, so im excited to get on the way. I meet up with 3 other London regs and enjoy the short flight to Dublin. Get checked into my room (very reasonable 80euro a night including breakfast) which is on site (after my previous trip to Kings, i am NOT staying anywhere but on site or a short walk away for these kind of festivals) The room is ok, a bit dated/tatty but for my needs its perfect, its on the 4th floor and in a quiet part of the hotel, ideal for the long lay ins. I requested a small fridge for the room and have stocked up on supplies for my 6 day stay.

I meet up with the guys, get a players card for registering tournaments, its day 1A here and the place is packed, I see a field of tables, and cash games are already buzzing, but before we dive into the cash games we need some food, so we hit Lemon Grass Thai resturant for dinner at 6pm, with plans to late reg the 150euro PLO event at 7.30. I order the chicken sate and a sweet chilli duck main with noodles, with a baileys cheesecake to finish. This was honestly amazing, without going into too much detail the food was the bests of its type I have ever had, approx 40euro a head with a drink was reasonable for the quality. I will be back here again, and deff getting some pictures (forgot this time round)

We head over to reg the PLO event and after a few minuites we are told its too late, floor staff had got the late reg time wrong, so thats out the window, so i plan on joining the rest in the Main event satt, I prefer to buy in and add on as late as possible, so that leaves me a few hours to play some cash.

The game format is decent, its 1/2 with optional button straddle of 5. I love this, and wish more London games would allow it. After an hour im stuck a few hundo in a decent 1/2 NL game, and eventually move to a 1/2 PLO game when the value leaves to enter the satt. The PLO game is good, but i do get into a big pot quite early on that doesn't end well...

i open A J 10 10 ss, and call a 3bet of 45, 3 of us to a flop of 10x 5s 3s

i check and its been potted and re potted before its back to me, with 800 effective im loving life getting it in with top set and nut flush draw, we call, and within seconds they are both all in, and i make the call. the turn is a 2, and the river is a 4 NO SPADE......I lose to both players, one showing AA2x and the other 5 6 7 9. neither had spades

I manage to claw back a small amount, and rush over to late reg the satt, total 260euro for 16k chips at 400/800 100a. they generated 57 x 1150euro seats!!!!!!!!!! This satt was a total disaster for me tho, i open 99 utg+1 and get 3bet to 12k, im really lost on what too do here, I have exactly 20bb, its my 2nd hand at the table vs a medium stack (has us covered).... i decided on a fold (wish i went with it as the player turns out to me a very loose aggro guy raising 75% of hands after this) My main reason for making the fold here, was because my table is made up of half old guys, who i think i can steal from later on, but i dont get that chance, a few hands later i open AQ, the blinds both call. flop Q J 8. checks to me, i bet 3k, and they both call. turn 9, sb shoves, bb shoves, they both cover me, i fold, sb has K10 and bb has Q9. I fold a few more hands, and find A9 on the button with approx 8k with blinds going up soon, so i shove my 10bb and the sb calls with QJ and hits a J and WE ARE OUT.

We dive straight back into a cash game, 2/5 NL while waiting for a 2/5 PLO seat. game is average at best, I do pick up a nice pot with QQ, but nothing of interest other than that, i hear my name for PLO, and get seated into a very good game. American lady to my left seems new to PLO and pays me off a heap in a few pots, and hasn't grasped bottom house is no good in this game when its 3bet on the river. My hand history is a bit sketchy, i do remember getting it in with 789Jss on 5 6 J ss board vs american lady with 478x and a chinese guy with AAxx, neither had spades. the river is a 3, and I lose a 2.5k pot, but manage to get paid in 2 spots later on with Q987 on Q8868 board by JJxx and AAxx on the river, and also KKxx on Q24K, i get it in for 1.5k vs the american lady on the turn and hold.
The last big hand of the session is when I make it 60 on the button (i straddle 10) after 5 limpers with JJ99 hhdd. I get 5 callers, and flop is 8 7 5 hh. its checked to me, i bet 300, and get 4 folds, last guy shoves in for 750ish, i make the call, we run it twice, first run... 9 7, and second run 10 J, i make 9s full and a straight to scoop a guy hold 88xx.

After losing a few small pots, its now around 4am, im tired, game is dying a bit and 4 seats to my right are all nitts, i decide to head to my room to get some sleep, ready for tomorrow, which is Day 1 B of the main. My win in cash covers my losses today and more than enough for my entry to the main tomorrow, which is always nice #freerolling

Gutshot City

Early rise for me, grab breakfast with the boys, and ready for some cash game action before the Main day 1a

I planned to enter at 100/200 25a, which was level 4. I have to say this is an amazing structure for the buy in and the value is unbelievable

I join a 1/2 omaha cash game, and book a €1500+ win when top set holds vs 2 players both with 2 pair

Game dies when 5 players get it in blind preflop and 2245 makes quad dueces

*

Time for the tournament!

Main event
*

Get seated on a tough table, one solid london player i have battled with before, and a few familar faces. I lose a few small pots then get 3 streets of value with AA vs my neighbour.

One thing on this table is comman, people turning gutshots! I myself made 2 straights and rocketed to 75k by level 8.

The last level i build up to a peak of 90k and bag after my KQ high is good 4 ways on AA525

A few hours more of uneventfull cash games and im in bed at 5am.

Day 2

Get seated at table 43 as chip leader on a great table. No big stacks

I win a few small pots, before i flop a set with 22 on 10 8 2 dd and bust a player with qjdd

Then shortly after 2 limpers at 600/1200* i limp with A9cc. Normally never limping in a tournament here but table is so flop happy, so we go 5 ways.

Flop k 5 2 cc
Sb leads 2500 and 1 caller i call.
Turn 7x
Again sb bets 3000 and 1 caller, i call
River Qc

Both check to me, i bet 9500 and get 2 callers and ship a nice pot.

Table is getting tougher as the bad players bust, and lost a 50k pot blind on blind with 2 pair vs a rivered straight

currently on 180k @ 800/1600 200a avg 83k 407 left

Updates to follow during each break

After a tough first table and losing 250k pot with KK vs j9cc all in pre we are now on the bubble here.

135 get paid, and we have 120k which is 20bb.

No mega shorties or big stack bullies on my table so going to wait it out for the cash and then going to spin my stack up!

So on the stone cold bubble i find 66 in the bb, and its been min raised and called. We have 110k, and decide to take a flop.

Flop J 6 5 dd

It checks to the button who bets 50k

I move all in for under 100k and its back to him

, he ends up folding AJ and im close to 180k as the bubble bursts.

Its all down hill from there, as my AK loses to J9 all in pre 80k a man, and i get called by A high no draw and lose to a turnt A when i have 22.

Final exit hand is K9 shove button for 50k and bb calls with 22, kq2 flop and im out for €2000.

Im off too sleep this long fustrating day off, never got much going after my KK lose to j9 earlier, and grinded 100k stack for most of the 2nd half of the day, and when i won a small pot i would lose one right after.

Still 3 days of action here in Dublin, cash games gone 24/7 and still amazing action

The Final Final Day

after a rough cash session ending me losing approx 2k in the early hours, im up at 4pm, looking at the schedule to find what event im playing

i have 3 options, the 250 PLO, or the 350 NL 8 max or just play cash

i decide on the holdem event, didn't enjoy the PLO turbo i played, and the numbers were low and the cash games arent going anywhere, so we super late reg the event in the break, and we have 20k with blinds at 200/400 when we come back. it starts off bad when my AK loses to k3o all in pre, and i have to fold for about 2 levels before going on a rampage when 2 old guys sit down. a few hours later and im on approx 60k when i river a boat with 99 vs a guys slow played AK, and then we are close to the money, and im coasting around average.

they are paying 36 places, and on the stone bubble i steal 2 pots with AQ and AJ with a shove onto the short stacks behind me, and then have to raise fold 1010 vs the huge stack shove. once the money bursts i sit patiently, the min cash was only 490, and there was a pay jump at 28 and then 24. nothing much of interest, i found JJ and 88 twice and won small pots, both times same big stack limps and i shove 10 or 11bb.

we are now 2 tables left, and find KK in the sb, the button raises, and its a perfect time to slow play, there are no payjumps to worry about for ages, and he has been happy to bet small both streets and over jam rivers, so with my 200k stack i flat his 8k min raise.

flop 2 4 10, and i check call his 11k bet, turn J, and check call his 19k bet, and the river pairs the 2, and i check, and he bets 100k straight, and give it a min before moving all in, and he tank folds showing A4

then we get JJ vs KQ and lose to a rivered K, and we are back to 20bb stack. they move us to the main floor at the break, and i find a fold for 2 orbits and make the next sizable pay jump at 12th, and theres not another jump for 4 spots. but its anyones game, 2 big stacks on the other table and lots of medium stacks on ours, and 15k up top, i decide to shove any two on the tigher medium stack players 3 times, to keep chipping up.

after a few crazy pots on the other table we make the FT. 2 people shorter than me, and 2 huge stacks next to each other. we fold for a while and 2 bust out, we shove AQ and AJ and then finally 88 which gets called by AQ and we hold.

then ICM suicide happens, the sb and bb go too war with 33 and KK, and the 33 comes out on top on 10 3 10 x x run out. and then we are 4.

we discuss a deal, which I would love feedback on. the stacks and payouts are below, and ICM comes out as the follows...but we didnt have this information to hand at the time, and the propsed deal was CL gets 14k and we chop the rest evenly, i decline and insist on at least 8k, after 5mins of discussion we play on. the shorter stack shoves q8ss and gets called by the next short stack with AQ and we are 3 handed. no deal can be discussed and im quickly dispatched when my A8 doesnt win vs CL AQ, but we are out for 7200 and a tournament personal best cash.

so about to get some sleep, and a quick tally up on the numbers

-400 hotels
-100 flights
-40 cabs
-255 satt
-150 plo event

+850 main event min cash
+6850 3rd place 8max event
+1050 PLO cash game

leaves a profit of 7800 most of which will be added to the vegas fund for my arrival late may for just under 4 weeks.
