Ok, so I wanted to do an
update every 20k hands and finally hit the mark this year. Volume online has been pretty ****ty through these 3.5 months on the year so far - less than half of where I wanted to be at this point for online hands. However, that's because I've played way more live - I have over 400 hours of live poker ytd. Moving forward on the year I am going to try to and bring my 80:20 live
nline ratio closer to 60:40.
Results overall for both live and online have been stellar ytd, pacing to do better than last year. On an hourly basis, I'm actually doing better online by a lot but the sample size is lolsmall so I am not reading into it much beyond it is what it is. I have def run very hot online but I also feel that I made some huge changes to my game since December with how I approach constructing my ranges and a conscious effort to fix a long-standing error of calling too far down in my range. From a strategy perspective, I've really improved a lot with regards to theory and sizing. I'm pleased with my play so far but obviously we won't have a decent idea until I hit the 100k hands mark on the year. However, these 20k hand snippets provide nice small windows and are decent sample sizes to reflect on with regards to self-assessing quality of play, tilt, etc.
Study wise I have way under-performed. I'm pretty disappointed with myself here. The reasons are, I'm sure universal, but inexcusable:
- playing is more fun that studying and so I opt for that first
- I focus too much on the immediate $ return per time. Obv if I study instead of play 4 hours today, I am losing out on 4* my hourly, but that's really a stupid way to approach poker as a living and so I am gonna fix this moving forward
I will re-mediate the study slacking by setting aside one or 2 specific days and study 2-3 hours each of those days which will be around 20 hours a month total. I am going to treat this window of time as though it were a job or class I have to clock in for - nothing else will be scheduled on these days/times period.
With that being said....
