Picture is of a stack I built up about 3 years ago, at the casino I used to play at, that has now shut down their card room.
I think that I have it this time.

Thanks, Fozzy!

Last night I played one of the longest sessions that I have cobbled together in the past, at 6 hours and 15 min. I was able to call in ahead and get directly to the table on my arrival, and this is so much less tilting than waiting on a table for me. I do think that I recall playing longer sessions than this, I just don't have record of it. When I am on a grind schedule I plan on routinely playing 8-10 hours. Anything less than this duration seems like a waste of a 2 hour round trip to the casino.

I made some big hands and lost in some weird spots last night. I got in a spot with a villain who kept trying to put a move on me. My stack covered others at ~250 (Villain had ~$180). I raised to $12 preflop w/ 55 utg+1 and got two calls, including villain otb. flop was 5x3s6d. I cbet $20 on the flop and villain called. Turn was 3c and I check to villain (anticipating that he was going to bet ~85% of turn cards that I check to him) and he bets $30 and I call. River is the last 5. Again I check and villain bets $35, and I shove for his remaining stack of ~$75 and he tank folds. Villain showed a 3. Knowing this villain, I am not sure how he folded a 3 in this raised pot and considering hands that he saw him showdown in big pots. I started to think that I may have been telegraphing something. I think that my line was pretty good and got the maximum amount of value from this villain, in hands that he isn't as strong as he was.

I lost another big pot w/ AA in which I turned as set, but I am still trying to conjure the exact hand and don't want to make this post a wall of text. So, I will get back to this hand in another post.

I was up in the game $275 at one point, but spewed some money getting impatient.

6 hours and 15 minutes Played
In for: $200
Out for:$300
Bankroll: $10,141

I forgot to mention, that there will be whiskey, bourbon, scotch, and beer itt (unless this against some forum rules). Feel free to comment and discuss this along the way, I know that enjoy conversations of the nature of, "what have you had before?" "What do you want to try?" "What did you think?" etc. I do not know a great deal about the tastes, themes, noses, etc., of spirits, but am always willing to learn more.

Cheers!

Good thread so far. I'm a beer/scotch/whiskey/bourbon guy myself. Props on the Abita glass! It's a local beer down here. How is that Lagavulin? I'll happily chime in from time to time in regards to that side of things.

About your problem remembering hands...have you ever recorded a quick hh on your phone mid-sesh? I do this often, depending on what type of hands I'm focusing on, and it helps tremendously when going over hands at a later date & time.

My undergrad is in athletic training, and I've taken a few grad classes in the past (was going for a Masters in kinesiology with a focus in exercise science, ran into health issues and had to move back home).

Good luck!

Edit: I'm a Buffalo Trace, Macallan, and Bulleit fan (has to be Bulleit 10 though obv)

The Abita glass was a gift from a buddy of mine from Shrevport. I also have a glass that he brought me from the Graft Brewing Company, which is in Shrevport. Got a chance to visit the Graft Raft facility during a Christmas Party they were throwing. I tried several of there beers but can't remember the names of any of them.

The Lagavulin is great. Especially if you are a fan of single malts that have a tobacco (not necessarily smoky as much as like a chewing tobacco) flavor to them.

I am going to for sure get back to jotting down notes on my phone mid session. I have taken this approach in the past. I think most of my issues with remembering hands stem from a mixture auto-pilot and the game moving really fast to me, since I am just getting back to the table after a long hiatus.

I thumbed through your PG&C thread and wanted to say keep up the fight. I have a cousin that had a similar issue and in fact, I believe that it was Chron's Disease. She had a couple of surgeries and has eradicated the problem at the moment. Like you said, a good support system goes a long way with any medical condition and has been vital for my cousin.

Thanks for checking out the thread.

Bulleit 10 ftw!

Hey thanks for checking out my log, and much thanks for the kind & supportive words, man. Really appreciate it, and it never goes unnoticed.

I do enjoy a smoky flavored scotch. You should check out Talisker 10 if you ever get a chance. One of my favorites. Tastes like the sea. Other than that, I like Hibiki 12, which is taking a hiatus due to demand being higher than supply. It has a much sweeter finish than most scotches, and the Japanese have become masters at blending. I'll post others when I think of them or as they come up in your thread.

hey OP i havent looked through your thread at all but I HIGHLY recommend you diving your winnings up differently. Something along the lines of 60 to the roll, 20 to life, 10 to the fall back plan 2k and 10 to long term investments would help you ultimately achieve a better life. you really want more than 2k as your parachute.

that being said GL and wish you the best

I think you have a great thread going. It creates a medium for folks to discuss similar issues and get an education on something that they may not have had much of an awareness to before.

My buddy raves about Hibiki 12 and I have yet to try it. This is going to be on my hit list though. As will the Talker.

I think you are right on the money. Once I fully roll out my grind schedule I am going to be looking for a more equitable split of my profits that provides the most benefit to all areas of my finances.

Thanks for the well wishes, dude!

Taking a few days off from the grind to fully invest in the last few days of my vacation from work (although I will be leaving the job for good in the next couple of weeks).

I am in Lubbock visiting a friend who has a birthday on Saturday. Eating well and imbibing in tasty alcohols.

These are the goods. Haven't had anything from the pic before. The Scotch is very smooth and priced well at $40, for a 12 year single malt.

The tasting glass is probably the best part of my purchases.

Yes, of course. I am remiss that I haven't adhered to my original plan. However, I plan on getting back in the mix near the end of this month. I am going to be playing off and on and will make sure to update this thread when I can, until I am fully out of the job and on the grind.

Since my last post I have been in Lubbock visiting a buddy, back to work for a couple of weeks profiteering, preparing for a buddy's wedding this weekend, stopped smoking and started again, went to the strip club, went to a wake for a good buddy's grandfather, and probably some other stuff.

I am involved in the vetting process for my replacement. As much as I resent higher ed, this school is my Alma Mater and I want to leave it in good hands.

This thread will at times be frustrating I believe, as my true goals will be somewhat transcendental.

Thanks for the interest in the thread. I will try to pick things back up to make it worth following, I assure you.

Still at the job sorting things out, probably never going to exit.

Interlude:

I am going to play the in the Choctaw fall classic this weekend. I will be playing the $50k gtd on Friday and the $200k gtd on Saturday. If I bust early on Friday I am going to hit the cash game tables. Maybe I can bink something to spur me into fully stepping out of the J-O-B.

Outro:

The best of 4 or 5 Scotch Ales that I have tried:

A really good Imperial from a brewery out of Springfield, MO:

Great! It's awesome to see folks on board for whatever the hell is going to happen itt.

I went with the audible this evening and played cash instead of the Fall Poker Classic at Choctaw Casino.

Within the first 2 orbits of sitting down I hit two sets and got paid on one of them.

7 players, $5 button straddle and hero has ~$220 UTG+1. I raise to $15 with QQ

HJ calls $15 and has another ~&100 behind. Main villain is otb and raises to $30, he has ~$260.

I flat the $30 and so does the HJ.

Flop is: QJ6

I check, HJ checks, and villain bets $30. Both players call.

Turn: 6

I check, HJ checks, and villain bets $30. I raise to $100, HJ calls and is all-in, villain calls(?).

River: 10

I put the rest of my stack in and Villain calls.

HJ- Folds
Villain shows KK

I end up getting drawn out on in a couple of other pots before the end of the session, but book a win.

3 hours of play, +$255.

I hit 75K miles with my car on the way home tonight.

I am not sure why this is meaningful to me. I think this vehicle is one of the biggest commitments of my life as I tend to sway towards the very non-committal side of endeavors.

I plan on following through with the Fall Poker Classic $200K at noon tomorrow. Will post some results of the tourney, or whatever else it is that I decide to venture in to instead.

I am sure nobody out there is waiting for a tournament update from me, none the less, I didn't end up playing today. I was in a funky mood and had a heavy heart after the incident in Stillwater preceding the Oklahoma State game today. I lost my motivation to play today.

Chilling with a nice Oklahoma beer. Excuse my being crass with the IPA in a pilsner glass.

I intend to redefine the parameters of my goals soon. Hopefully refocusing will create something to follow here, and give me something more tangible to work towards.

Paragraph 1: I'm non-committal
Paragraph 2: I'm committing to playing the tourney tomorrow.
Paragraph 3: Didn't play the tourney.

That amused me.

I want to thank TheTrooper, PureAggression, LotGrinder (though I know none of you), Rust Cohle (from True Detective), my family, and the chairman on the Board of Trustees at my college. Each of the entities mentioned have inspired me to stick with my resignation this time.

The going will not be easy. I am going to take my approach a day at a time, and whittle away at what I think will pave the way to playing good poker and personal growth.

I am going to be going on the grind following January 29th.

Trip to Vegas kicks off on February 12th, already booked.

I will be posting an updated plan of attack for my goals soon.

Thanks for any encouragement and detraction. Both will be instrumental in fueling my desire to grow.
