Aw, man!
Seriously, if you ever wanna get anywhere with poker you´re gonna have to stop getting tilted when you get sucked out on.
You where 65% on the flop, meaning that this will happen one time out of three. Kinda often...
This is part of the game.
I used to feel the same way as you, but then I started caring more about the EV-line than the green line, and since then suck outs doesn´t bother me nearly as much.
Another tip: If this bothers you, stay clear of PLO. You won´t belive how much you´ll get sucked out on there...

This thread! You OP are so out of the box, and i like it. 2tabling micros making most of the profit on the red line having the highest winrate on the limit probably...i mean u dont get to see that every day

Oh, I'm definitely staying out of PLO.
I gave a 2 hour break and found out that the last few thousand hands did not mean anything compared to my long term goals in poker -which is having fun and calling myself a good poker player.

I'm having fun mostly and I know I am miles away from being a good poker player.

This is a marathon and my current milestone is to get that silverstar status this month.
Let's get that motha f.. first!

Now that I got this nailed, I can get back to concentrating on my game.

I'm setting some new rules to plug my leaks, also trying to come up with an algorithm, or an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) on what steps I'll check or how I will play pre and postflop.

One such rule I had created in the past has been the one to help me keep my bankroll as I hit this latest downswing. I had it under control by october from june 2012, it was:
"Do NOT go playing in higher stakes when you tilt!", and I didn't even think of doing that this time.

Damn, I had written a lengthy 2012 review, however it has gone awol as my browser decided to close itself before I could post it, so here's a shortened version:

- July 2012 Declared being a loser at poker and restarted at 2NL

- Crushed 2NL, moved to 4NL, crushed 4NL, ZOOMbies say small sample size, showed them the middle finger

- Moved to PS, played 45 MTTSNGs, good results over first 100 tourneys, but didn't have time so moved back to cash

- Tried 10NL at PS, got butt****ed and moved down to 5NL

- 5NL started great, then decided to get SilverStar status, added more tables at 7k hands which was a -EV decision as can be seen from the graph, however got the SilverStar at last.

- 2012 ends with net profits, also I can safely say that I'm a better player compared to 2011. 2013 goals will be posted tomorrow.

- December 2012 has been another month with profits, $68,95 from 5NL, $40 from RB bonus, $10 from VIPSteallar Awards. However spewed some at ZOOM, so december 2012 5NL result:
$69 profit with 13,79 bb/100 over 10.000 hands.

- Thanks to all who have contributed, I wish you and your loved ones a happy and better new year.

Cheers!
PokeRock.

Happy new year folks!
If I'm playing on the first hours of the new year -according to my local time- as wifey and son is asleep, that's commitment.

Thus I'm pot, wait no... I'm poker committed.
Commitment brings results and I'm here to get them in 2013!

Cheers!

Goals for the year 2013:

Poker:
[ ] Beat 5NL with 5-10bb/100 over 50k hands or more
[ ] Beat 10NL or at least get on the way to beating 10NL
[ ] Study more
[ ] Become a better player
[ ] Profit

Life:
[ ] Get down to 75 kilograms and keep it there
[ ] Quit smoking
[ ] Promote at job or switch companies
[ ] Spend more quality time with wife & son
[ ] Take your wife to Paris for a visit
The King of The Red Line is Back: Declaration of INDEPENDANCE ! Quote

Goals for January:

[ ] Play only at 5NL
[ ] New Rule: Do not go checking the profit line every few hands! Checking it is only allowed once in an hour, at the start of the hour.
[ ] Review top & bottom 5 hands -in terms of profits/losses- after every day, post at 2p2 if necessary
[ ] You can play only the amount of hours you study. So study 1 hour of poker and get to play 1...
[ ] Read 1 poker book
[ ] Read 5 COTWs
[ ] Profit

Will be a very busy month keeping me away from my home & computer, so can't promise anything about hand count.

Addendum to January 2013 goals:
[ ] Keep SilverStar status (apparently I need to make 500vpps rather than 750)

^Verneer said games are much harder now than they used to be when he did it. It can of course still be done.

The games are harder because we are here

First 1,4k hands of the month and the year 2013. It has been a wavy start, the graph looking like a city skyline and stuff
Big losses were vs pocket aces, and set miners.
Oh, also got another $10 from my sign-up rakeback.

Forecast says "expect a flatter red line for this month, and watch out for the sudden increases in the green line due to the stacky'o hurricane".

Now it's time to study...

Here's a tacticts post:

The first thing I do when I join a table is to color code players according to the number of tables they are currently playing on.

RED: 5+ tables (tend to be nits)
YELLOW: 2 tables (not much different than light blue)
DARK BLUE: 3-5 tables (recheck if table count increases)
LIGHT BLUE: 1 table (fishy)
ORANGE: Unknown (mostly tags, but the occasional fish is also hidden here)

At first the LIGHT BLUE guys are the mark for me.
Later on as the hands of the players accumulate, I add 2 more colors.
GREEN: Fish
PURPLE: Bruisers (aka players who seem to know what they are doing)

I also take a note if a player has waited for the bb to join the game or not.
And by the end of a session, I join many tables and color tag them.

As you can see the colors of players from the lobby, this helps me a lot when making table selections. And any table with 3 or more LIGHT BLUE or GREENS in it is a gold mine for me.

I also plan to mark any player as fish if they have a VPIP over 35 in 100+ hands.

Do you have any suggestions to improve this color coding scheme?

Does Poker Tracker have an AutoRate function?
I use that with HM2.
It automatically color codes villains.
I rate villains using two stats:
- VPIP
- Postflop aggression
These are, IMO, the most crucial stats when trying to figure out an opponents range.

Is he loose pre and aggressive post? Then his bet doesn´t mean to much.
Is he tight pre and passive post? If he bets, he has the nuts.

I use 7 categories:
- Low VPIP
- Medium VPIP, Low agg
- Medium VPIP, Medium agg
- Medium VPIP, High agg
- High VPIP, Low agg
- High VPIP, Medium agg
- High VPIP, High agg

Looking at your HUD, I´m guessing the first line is this:
PFR (26) / 3bet (19) / Postflop agg% (75) / Won without showdown (100)
Amiright?

After 3,1k hands, things still look wavy.
Redline is kicking ass as always while I'm running significantly below EV.
My losses come from 3 things:
1. My KK,QQ vs AA
2. Set over set
3. I correctly put the villain in a range and understand that he has something high up in his range, but still get inclined to raise or call at the wrong spots.

Here's a hand history for you, which I believe I played correctly.

PokerStars - $0.05 NL - Holdem - 9 players

Hero (SB): $8.51
BB: $5.00
UTG: $4.75
UTG+1: $8.65
UTG+2: $3.68
MP: $5.93
MP+1: $6.30
CO: $7.38
BTN: $4.25

Hero posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has A T

UTG calls $0.05, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, BTN calls $0.05, Hero calls $0.03, BB checks

Flop: ($0.20, 4 players) T A J
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets $0.10, fold, Hero raises to $0.40, fold, fold

Spoiler:
Hero wins $0.38

And here's my line of thinking:
Preflop: If I raised I would be OOP in the upcoming streets so I decided to just complete.

Flop: I have hit the flop hard, however there's a chance for a straight / draw. I check with the intent to check raise if a low bet is shot at me.
UTG is fishy and likes to donk and he bets... Thus I make my raise and get the pot right there.

Would you play this hand any differently? Let them see the turn by calling? I think I wouldn't.

Pre flop I hate beeing in this spot.
The hand is most likely better than opponents, so I can´t fold.
If I raise I need to raise quite big, and then I´m building a big pot OOP with a so-so hand. Not that tempting.
And calling leaves me in the dark post flop.
Think calling is best, but if I don´t hit monster (2 pair or better) I´m gonna be really careful post. Opponents could have anything.
On the flop I think raising is good.
Some worse aces might call, but more importanly, any player with two cards ten or higher will call (they all have two pair or pair+straightdraw).
You´re only losing to straíght and AJ. Sets are really unlikely.
Well played.
