Hi guys,

I am a German poker player and have already played 6max NL Cash quite a few years now (with longer breaks in between of course) and now finally made the move to BPC CFP and Heads Up. This thread will cover my journey from a Heads Up novice to pro.

Even during the best times in the past, I’ve never played higher than NL200 with most of my volume on NL100 during the last 5-6 years or so. Since 2 years, I got pretty lazy (at least in regards to poker) and did not really improve anymore, which resulted in the consequence that I had to drop down in stakes; as well as feeling “overwhelmed” by all the new age stuff like GTO and balancing that everyone knows now…

Since I felt that I needed a bigger change and be very very VERY serious about poker again, I applied for BPC CFP and will start there now.

Besides poker, I will still be studying at university, but luckily there’s not too much to do and I’m more than satisfied with my grades so far, so the main focus in 2015 will be on improving at this wonderful card game. ;-)

I absolutely like the attitude at BPC so far and am completely sure I will not only massively improve at the game, but also in several aspects of life too. The professionalism that comes to light of day here is amazing and an inspiration to me to become the best possible version of myself.

At the moment, I cannot say on a detailed basis what the specific goals for the overall year will be, but I will certainly break goals down into each month, to have a clear path and be held accountable for my actions.

Since I start with a somewhat decently sized bankroll compared to the limits I will most likely start playing HU at, I will really try to incorporate the standard Heads Up strategy as quickly as possible to be able to move up rather sooner than later!

Quick facts:
  • 26, living in Sweden atm but I am German
  • Played for a longer time already, mainly 6max NL25-NL200
  • Going to crush Heads Up NLH this year!
  • Make 2015 my best year ever – BOTH in POKER and LIFE!

As mentioned before, more and more details will follow in further posts.
I will also regulartly update my youtube channel here.

That’s it for now, cya!

First update, although short since I only started playing today:

Got in over 8hours and 1,5k hands, satisfied with that and had good opponents. Won 5 stacks, thats a good start!

Action was there most of the time, so not much waiting.

Tried to play only standard lines and realized that Im folding a lot on the river, my WTSD is quite low atm, need to see how this develops, maybe this is one of the first topics with my coach.

Tomorrow will be the first coaching, really looking forward to it

Ok, so time for an update.

Been playing a lot the last days, and results are quite ok, given the fact that I still make some basic mistakes here and there and need to adjust the ranges.

Im having trouble with some specific types of opponents who call me down a ****load, and I readjust not quickly enough by only valuetowning them.

Made session goals and overall sticked to them like 90%, so thats good, but I obviously need to get to 99%+ and dont leave money in spots where I shouldnt.

So far Ive only been playing NL50 and feel more than comfortable on that limit when I quit opponents that I feel helpless against.

I just stick to that until I have a clear plan how to handle them.

From tomorrow onwards Im gonna add NL100 tables as well and see how that goes.

Hope you all had a great weekend and GL!

I will be doing weekly video reviews from today on.

Hey guys,

so another week is over and Im looking back on it in a very positive manner, I was able to keep up with the volume even though I had a bit of a break on Saturday/sunday with less playing time. So far Im getting done everything pokerwise and lifewise somewhat easily so that works really great. I can just hope that it will continue to be like that.

My playing routine is really consistent already with the session preparation and more or less flexible breaks in between. This helps me to avoid tilt and play my A-Game as long as possible. Going through coaching notes and hands has proven to be more than helpful as well. In many spots, I feel that I already have a much better understanding which parts of my range I need to call/fold for example on the river, compared to when I started 1,5 weeks ago. Also incorporated some new lines and betsizing tweaks with my coach that should IMO add up loads to my winrate.

Results of the week are great, Im trying to shift the action from NL50 to NL100/200 now but still play the lowest limit to avoid downtimes, since I want to get as much playing practice as possible for now.

Im sticking to playing max 2 tables right now to be able to make notes, and of course the play is not fully automated in many spots yet, especially when it comes to adaptions after I have played the first 30 hands or so against a specific opponent.

It is obvious that swings will become larger now that Im playing a bit higher, but I guess that means to just continue on the good start and run decently Either way, Im well-rolled so it shouldnt be a problem at all.

Looking forward to this next week! Volume and studying goals are 40h – 15h.

Only very short update, almost hit stop loss but stopped before I hit, since I did not feel I could play A game anymore, so I thought it is best to quit

This is the first time it happened, quite interesting, I am also mega pissed right now.

Not because I necessarily played like garbage, but it was just I could not get anything going whatever, the graph for today goes just straight down ^^ *fish*

Tomorrow is a new day and I will take a break for now (initially planned to play for a few more hours) and start to review hands with a fresh mind early tomorrow morning.

Its still pretty rough atm, swingy in both directions, one day up, next day down etc...
Need to keep my mind from thinking about this all the time and should just focus on playing and studying independently of the results. At least also my coach was fine with most of what he saw in the last session, so I can be a bit more confident.

I also started to reread the book "The Poker Hero" which is basically about what is the best way to become really good at something, in this case poker obviously.
Read it a little more than 1 year ago but especially now that everything is pretty serious it is good to be reminded of these things.

The more important question would be if I know about the taste and YES, I do

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had my day off for this week and did some stuff for uni which needed to be done. Have to write several assignments + some group projects and I felt that today was a good day to get something off the desk, although I was a bit tired from last nights party.
Also watched a group coaching video and did a summary of it. The content was really interesting and I definitely need to watch all the other videos soon!
Besides that not much happened today, so signing out for this week now
Hey guys,
time for another update.
Holiday in Kiruna was so awesome, winter wonderland and all the activities like snowmobile driving, dogsled riding and mine visit were super fun.
Here are some impressions:
Started to go back to the tables yesterday, its going OK so far altho I just seem to run incredibly bad at NL200, which is quite annoying, but it will turn around hopefully sooner than later.
Good luck with the grind!
Quick update, its going ok at the tables but right now there are a lot of other things to do besides poker so its quite challenging to get everything done. Thats why I focus on playing and doing all other required things and leave out less important things.
It is going good at the tables so far in March, lets hope it stays this way!
This week and the next week will be quite challenging because I have to sit two exams in my university program, for which I still need to study quite a bit.
The goal is to still play 35h and I am sure I will make it! Since everyone is having exams there are not many other activities anyway.
So far the week has ben so-so, I played mostly well but think Ive been breaking even so far this week.
The good part is that I seem to have improved my mindset drastically, I almost dont care if someone hit and runs me for a stack etc. I just focus on making the right play and dont get nervous or angry when I lose some big pots in the very beginning of the match. These situations were especially hard to deal with in the beginning because I was not used to playing heads up, but it really seems that I could get rid of this meanwhile.
It`s been 15hours of work (both uni and poker) so far each day and it will stay like that until next Wednesday when the 2nd exam is over. Gonna be some tough days but who said I am here for fun
The week was pretty good in hours I put in even though I had to study for uni a lot.
Played roughly 40h so even more than I was planning to do. Also read in some of the a lot more experienced guys' blogs and am more motivated than ever to give everything and move forward continuously in both poker and life!
Profits for the week are not spectacular at all but did not play too much NL200 due to lack of action and when I played I mostly didnt win ^^
Im quite tired because of these heavy working days so thats it for now
Quick update, the week is going ok so far, was close to first 1k winning day yesterday but then lost some again. I feel a lot more comfortable in many spots and am more sure about my ranges for barreling / calling down etc.
Since Ive finished my 2nd exam on Wednesday, the next 5 days will be heavy heavy grinding, goal is 8+ hours at the tables each day plus studying of course, and after that I will be in Copenhagen for a few days, which I am really looking forward to. The city is so beatiful, and I haven't been there for many years now. That is also a good motivation to go in heavy grind mode, when you know that you will get some reward for it afterwards
The week has been finished pretty rough, lost A LOT last 3 days and am massively tilted because of that. The overall results basically suck and Im not sure why (Ok, its because I suck, I know ) Volume goals were fine, Could get in 8k hands this week which is the only thing I like about the week. Lets keep grinding.
Hej hej,
Im back from my short vacation in Copenhagen. I expected a lot more of the city to be honest, but maybe I was also a bit disappointed because it was just grey and rainy for three days straight, this has a big impact on the atmosphere as well...
Anyways, since today I am back at the tables and will see how it goes
Ok so after a longer time of no update it is about time now.
Have been sick for almost a week now which is quite annoying, basically only stayed in bed and wasnt able to do anything poker related, couldnt look at a screen for longer than a few minutes.
Still I am not quite back yet physically but there are no excuses now, Im already start the grind again today and will put in a lot of volume this week and month, no matter what happens.
Seeing other people succeed quicker than you fuels to keep going and keep improving.
Goals for April:
- Play at least 30k hands
- Only add NL50 if there is absolutely no other action
- Stick to 2 tables at the same time maximum
- Do all the off-table work (standard, as required)
- Make total profit including RB etc. of 4.000 €
Its not going well at the tables, am still losing for this month so far after I dropped another 1.1k+.
I am really satisfied with my volume, I played 40+ hours already only this week (in 4 days) which is a lot, and there are still 3 more playing days to come so will finish somewhere around 70 hours I think. This doesnt even include study time… Plan for next week then is probably to do the same thing. I have to work more than reaaally incredibly hard if I want to reach the goal for this month to make 4k. Also I probably wont be able to play on 29th and 30th of April so have to put in the hours now!
What annoys me is that I am still a little bit sick, every morning I already wake up with a headache and it usually doesnt get much better during the day then… But I really dont give a ****, there are no sick days or off days or whatnot, those are for people who just “kind of want it” but are not going all the way!
Quick update, I am not happy with my progress so far, its been almost 3 month (if you only count when I started actually playing) in the program and there are basically no results to show yet.
I read aa bit and viewed some videos about mindset related stuff and I am more sure than ever that I want to succeed with this. Still, I also know its 100% my own fault and I have to improve more than ever if I want to be on the same level as the people around here are heading to.
Half of April is over and I am not even up for the month now, so my goals for the month kind of have fallen into pieces already.
Nevertheless, I should not focus what I cannot change (which is the past!) and must focus every day on playing well and putting into practice what I have learned. I feel like I have learned and understand 100% of the things that I have gotten here so far which is in theory great, but the important aspect of course is how does the monetary side of things look like at the end of the month.
The problem is, I dont know yet where the root and the problem is, because I at least feel am doing all the ****, follow standard lines etc. This will be the most important part to find the leaks and get rid of them.
Peace out and GL for the rest of the month.
